Zelensky left Kiev for the first time since the beginning of the Russia’s military operation and visited Kharkov
In the Kharkov region, the attempts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to continue their advance towards the Russia’s border failed. Ukrainian units suffered losses and retreated from Ternovoe, as well as from the localities of Peremoga and Guryev Kazachok. Another failed attempt to counterattack by the AFU was reported near the Dergachi town, north of Kharkov. The front lines follows the Cossack Lopan—Liptsy—Ternovoe—Rubezhnoye line, where positional battles continue. In turn, the Russian military does not conduct offensive operations in the region.
In the area of Izyum, the front lines have not changed for several weeks. Positional battles in the area of Velika Kamyshevakha, Dolgenky, Kurulka. The Russian military is reportedly regrouping in the area in order to prepare a break through the Ukrainian defences towards Slavyansk. Heavy artillery shelling is reported along the entire front lines from Velikaya Kamyshevakha to Svyatogorsk. The AFU grouping in the region has been strengthened by forces withdrawn from the Kharkov direction and transferred from Dnepropetrovsk.
Russian-led forces are surrounding the city of Svyatogorsk. There are battles in the Bogorodichne area.

After the town of Krasny Liman came under the DPR control, Russian-led forces continued their advance towards Slavyansk from the east. The AFU positions in the village of Rayhorodok located 10 kilometers from Slavyansk are already shelled by Russian artillery. The Russian advance threatens the military supplies to the AFU units deployed in the Severodonetsk-Lisichansk metropolitan area from Slavyansk and Seversk.
After the Russian military claimed control over the city of Svetlodarsk on May 24th, the clashes reached the town of Novolagansk on the eastern coast of the local reservoir. Russian-led forces attempt to repel the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from the Uglegorskaya TPP. No advance have been reported in the area for several days. On May 29, the town of Dolomitnoe came under the DPR control.

Meanwhile, Russian forces are bypassing the AFU positions near Svetlodarsk and continue their advance toward the city of Bakhmut (Artemovsk), which is one of the main strongholds of the Ukrainian military in the Donbass region. So far, the villages of Vozdvizhenka and Vidrodzhenya fell under the DPR control. Most recently, clashes broke out in the village of Klinovoe.
Meanwhile, Russian-led forces are approaching the city of Bakhmut from several directions. Artillery and missile strikes are carried out on the AFU positions in the city. To the east, fighting continues in the town of Pilipchatino, where the Ukrainian units are almost uncircled. The village of Vladimirovka remains under DPR control, as a result the Artemovsk—Lisichansk highway, which is the main line of communications with the AFU units in Severodonetsk, is constantly shelled by Russian artillery. Fighting approached the highway and reached the villages of Stryapovka and Novaya Kamenka.

On the one hand, the Russian side claims that all main roads leading to Lisichansk have either been cut or are kept under constant fire control. On the other hand, the AFU declares that Russian units were repelled from the recently taken villages of Belogorovka and Berestovo, as a result the Bakhmut-Lisichansk highway was unblocked. The Ukrainian control over the villages is yet to be confirmed, according to the footage, fighting continues in the area. Anyway, the use of the road for transfer of military supplies to Lisichansk is no longer safe. Heavy losses of the AFU are reported on the road.
To the north, the road between Bakhmut and Soledar is also under the fire of Russian artillery.
In the area of Zolotoe, Russian-led forces continue the encirclement of the Ukrainian units. Fierce clashes continue in the town of Kamishevaha, as well as in the city of Zolotoe itself. The Ukrainian military does not withdraw their servicemen and continue to defence their positions in the area. Russian forces advances in the north are yet to cut off the road between Zolotoe and Lisichansk, which is already shelled by the artillery. Clashes continue in the villages of Toshkovka and Ustinovka. At the same time, the road cannot be used by Ukrainian forces after the city of Zolotoe was almost encircled from the western direction.
North of Popasnaya, battle for Vrubovka continues.
In the city of Severodonetsk, Russian-led forces are advancing from the northern, eastern and southern directions towards the city center and claiming new victories. There are battles in the area of Voronovo, Borovskoye and Metelkino. So far, the areas near the local Mir hotel (in the norther part of the city) and bus station (in the eastern part) came under control of Russian forces. Street fighting continues in the residential areas. The AFU are retreating to the eastern part of the city where the large industrial zone is located.
“At the moment, the units of the People’s Militia of the LPR, with the fire support of the Russian Armed Forces, have wedged into the Russian defense line in the city of Severodonetsk, repulsed the enemy in front of Severodonetsk,” said the official representative of the People’s Militia of the LPR Ivan Filiponenko.
In the Donetsk area, the DPR units are slowly enlarging the zone of their control around the heavily fortified town of Avdeevka. Heavy battles continue in the villages of Krasnogorovka, Novoselka-2, as well as on the southern outskirts of New York.
Kiev’s forces recently claimed another large counter-offensive operation in the Kherson region. Most recently, another attempt to counter attack the positions of the Russian Army took place in the area of Davidov Brod. The Ukrainian assault groups came under artillery and aviation fire and suffered heavy losses. According to pro-Russian sources, the failed operation resulted in destruction of up to 20 pieces of AFU military equipment, a Mi-8 helicopter and over Ukrainian 200 soldiers.

While retreating AFU units suffer heavy losses on the front lines, the Ukrainian military continues senseless shelling on the civilian areas in the city of Donetsk. On May 29th, the AFU intensified their attacks on local civilians. The AFU reportedly used the artillery of NATO countries in the shelling.
On MAy 29, 4 civilians were killed and 20 others were injured in the DPR as a result of the shelling, the DPR representative in the JCCC reported.
