US-backed SDF Struggles In Raqqah As Government Forces advance Along Euphrates

Donate

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have faced some problems with breaking the ISIS defense in the city of Raqqah.

According to pro-SDF sources, the US-backed group made some gains in the distrcits of al-Muazzafin, al-Hamra and Nazlat Shehada and killed 14 ISIS members. However, clashes are still ongoing in these areas and the districts have not been captured.

Considering the course of the SDF advance, the US-led force is not going to liberate the city in the nearest future.

At the same time, the Syrian military command used the SDF problems in Raqqah in order to launch a large-scale campaign against ISIS terrorists south of the Euphrates River. Government forces have captured a number of areas and now are taking control over important roads in the area.

The government advance cut off the possible SDF push towards Deir Ezzor through this area and contrubuted to future operations aimed at lifting the ISIS siege from the government-held city.

Lets just add some yellow mustard gas for Kurds to deal with in Raqqa.

    • FlorianGeyer

Or create imagery of ISIS men in sandals examining nerve agents and blame the Americans with ‘High Confidence ‘ , then destroy the US airbase where the attack is said to have come from. :)

      • Kell

        Lol

  • dutchnational

What does one expect? SAA being glorified for advancing through empty desert. Good for them.

SDF advancing through heavy resistance from fortified positions while trying not to hurt the present civilians. They are doing fine. The latest counterattack repelled with heavy IS losses and Al Malik quarter now 90% liberated. They crossed the main road through the old city and are now assaulting the latest part of the old city.

So they are doing fine and nobody claimed they would take the whole city within weeks.

There will come a point that IS lines will break somewhere and at that time you can expect relatively large advances. The diameter of IS held city are now a little over 1 mile.

    • Kids in Africa

We get it you are pro Zionist and YPG and you hate Assad.

      • dutchnational

Typical racist BS if one has to drag Israel into every discussion. Man, get over you puberile frustration with Israel and grow up.

As for Assad, whats there not to dislike? Hate I leave for racists like you.

So if i killed, raped all of your family and stole all they ever owned, u would be either stupid or racist if u hated me for what i had done!

Israel will NEVER be accepted while it remains a racist, apartheid, warmonger state that remains in occupation of neighbours lands and actively undermines those neighbours by supporting Wahabbi terrorism.

Get over it? Not gonna happen until Ziostan is a smoking wreck and its filthy orcs are scattered to the 4 winds.

If the SAA leaves the US and SDF to clean up Raqqa it will look just like Mosul. I am at a loss how things will play out once Deir Ezzor is no longer isolated. Is there going to be a big push to get the US out of Syria and Iraq? Can they do it without shots fired?

          • dutchnational

            Nope.

No one can force the US out of Northern Syria if they do not want to go.

Russia will not do it as it would mean war. Syria lacks the power if they do not get airsupport from Russia, which they will not get, Turkey cannot attack US because of Nato and because they would lose. Iran will not attack as the US is spoiling for a fight with them.

There is no one else that could attack Northern Syria. (KRG will have their hands full and is unlikely, PMU likewise as they will not attack Northern Syria when they have the KRG in their back, even if they would want to)

          • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

What a truly naive assessment you employ sound like a woman’s point of view which is like some cucks out there repeating this nonsense. The US left Vietnam and look at what happened took decades to solve the US image wonder how long will it take now, especially with photos of Mosul and Raqqa and other wonderful actions by the US are shown.

          • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Yes they can and am seeing the US going into media spiin andstill not gaining any ground in the world , more and more are waking up to their BS campaigns. The real fight in the media was ceded sometime back by the US and like ISUS(Isamic State Uncle Sham) they lost ground and continue to lose more.

    • chris chuba

It’s not empty desert. ISIS withdrew fighters to garrison cities along the Euphrates.

Having said that, I don’t envy anyone who has to fight ISIS in an urban environment. It was the western MSM speaking on behalf of the Pentagon acting as if the SDF was unstoppable. No shame in the siege taking a long time unless they are willing to use napalm and kill everyone in the city.

      • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Which they have been using Napalm and again with the media blackout on any videos showing otherwise . The Syrian Govt has asked the UN to force them to stop the US/Coalition of it’s illegal bombing in Syria and are filing for compensation damages against the US/Coalition many countries could be forced to pay for the US’s illegal bombing since the US will refuse any compensation. Then if they are going to be that way in the future the should GTFO Syria and leave the Middle East.

      • dutchnational

This is in my mind a sensible comment. SDF never claimed the assault on Raqqah would be easy or come cheap in lives.

      • Jonathan Cohen

SDF could do that or just let them starve, either way they need to go liberate the oil and oil fields for abortion rights instead of wasting their time on an already surrounded Raqqa.

Got it, but I wouldn’t have knocked the SAA, they are fighting small pockets I agree but consolidating vast sways of land.

I don’t know you views on the SDF but mine have changed recently, let us just say that mine have become more and more sceptical about the Kurds due to their blind support SO FAR of the US and for me, the Worst possible scenario is that the SDF and SAA go head to head around Raqqah as that plays in the hands of the US.

PS Alpologies for my original rude sounding comment, it wasn’t meant to be that harsh.

Seems to me SDF should let Raqqa starve for a while and go claim the oil fields for abortion rights.

    • Justin Ryan

The difference is that the SAA does this in Aleppo (a much bigger city) and without the help of the Entire west behind them! In fact the SAA had the Entire west (and their intel services) against them!
The SAA has literally defied the USA, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Israel, Uk, France, Germany etc etc INCLUDING THE SO CALLED REBELS, AL-NUSRA AND ISIS!

ALL that the SDF have to deal with is ISIS….. thats all!
They have no problems with funding, armour, advanced weapons, no fear of being seriously attacked, they have the best air force in the world, best Intel and US special forces planning and backing them up AND THE WESTERN MEDIA TO SHOW HOW GLORIOUS THEY ARE!

THAT’S THE FUCKING DIFFERENCE U STUPID DUMB CUNT!

THE SDF ARE TOTALLY FUCKING SHIT COMPARED TO THE SAA!
They are Opportunists sucking the dick of the people who put Saddam in power and also sold him the chemical weapons which he used against the Kurds!

My Brothers didn’t buckle and abandon Raqqah while headed for Dier al-Zour like was predicted, sure they was stabbed in the back by US and Erdogan, I remember Obama said twice that I know of , Quote , “it will take 30 years to overcome ISIS” that was late 2014 early 2015, I told my Brothers in Religion then Assad would win and Allah was only using Brother Baghdadi to cement a common front with US and Russia so Assad would win, basically because jews are the enemy of Allah, Christians are too but but unless He changes His Mind jews come first, anyhow the best thing for it now is for all Salafists and Arabs to oppose the Kurds.

    • Kids in Africa

Allah said there would be huge signs in Iraq, Syria and Egypt so expect more from servants of Dajjal.

      • Rodney Loder

I always supported Mugabe and Angola and opposed Paul Kagame, the Rwandan genocide was so fake I always identified Habyarimana as the traitor in the midst, exactly like my wife but that’s true Africa settled down and the ME blew up but I don’t think Dajjal made that happen, I think it’s a fight between the components of (P) Abraham’s Religion, no one side is Dajjal, if it were and that side won then destiny would not be controlled by Allah.

        • dutchnational

Mugabe is a racist, corrupt dictator who has destroyed his countries economy and caused untold suffering to its population.

          • Gary Sellars

No, that’s Western spin. The West hates Mugabe for the same reason they hate Putin – because he is a tough-minded leader who puts his people and nation first, and REFUSES to comply with the endless demands of foreigners, or to be become a witless vassal in servitude to Western elite capital.

That’s not to say Mugabe is a nice guy, but he looks after his own, and if the West and Colonial-era white farmers(who stole the land from the natives) don’t like it, thats just tough…

          • Jonathan Cohen

I would agree, but Mugabe ruined it by banning abortion, unlike Mozambique and cuba.

          • Jonathan Cohen

Mugabe banns abortion, so Mozambique is far better, but he is standing up to the billionaires.

          • Jonathan Cohen

            Boers are dutch, aren’t they?

    • Samuel Boas

What the fuck are you talking about you filthy terrorist. Why do you even comment that terrorist bullshit on this website. You should be banned.

      • Rodney Loder

If I was banned from SF I would get a even bigger platform, that’s because Allah is fundamentally subordinate to His environment, Fate and our instinctive behaviour is the outcome of psychological war which I’m winning, because I convinced a lot of people that, the environment of Space and Fate were originally subjected to the mechanism which really was the paradox of Fate nothing consisted of rudiments wanting to be residues the connection between them is called Telepathic Reality, the thing that made God, and the thing that is my intellectual property, God who began collecting the meaning of the inbetween (rudiments and residues) as a developing paradox Himself (Person and Persona His environment) we are a part of His environment, now let’s see your explanation about where everything came from, one other thing Muslims are not all that philosophical, they believe in me only because I can’t be killed.

    • Gjergj

Oh yeah, there we go… still people keep up justifying their actions and beliefs in the name of some strange source of supernatural power which time to time allies with some to fight some others,

Why can’t people at the beginning of the third millennia watch politics for what they are… POLITICS, which would pave they way for using logic and understanding the social and scientific reality for what it truly is.

      • Attrition47

I don’t mind other people being religious as long as the don’t bore me with the details. Living in England, I get what I want.

      • Rodney Loder

The second millennium has shaped the third probably completely, in 1978 I was studying Economics as a mature age student, it was free then now its not, the population ceiling was projected to peak at 37 billion, now it’s down to fifteen before demography ends totally any form of Civilized Humanitarian international Relations, free trade is now rat shit but too late to go back to 1978 the Global Corporate Estate is unassailable, also technology is redundant when compared Global problems, and the ice caps are melting away.
Not only that but the secular movement in the ME is defunct and in the West it is now only a perverted expression of ideosyncratic anachronism.
Only Allah can change anything now.

        • Störtebembel

So get your Allah and his pedophile prophet and put it deep into your mind, your stupid little world or the place where the sun never ever shines. its up to you wether the last of it is Schnitte, Spitzhornberge or your own toches. But stop boring us with this religious crap.

The modern world can’t even sustain 1 billion. ABORTION RIGHTS FOR rAQQA!

          • Rodney Loder

Abortion is not the answer, but I agree the Muslin attitude is best 3 months after that it’s not allowed, the baby has to have some rights, even China has given up on the one child family so a target of below 1billion seems unreasonable, why are you so often posting abortion rights?.

          • Rodney Loder

That’s good news, I breed frogs to maintain a large red belly black snake population, soon my snakes will be very few along with the goannas because the cane toad introduced by the CSIRO to eat bugs on sugarcane is migrating down from Queensland, nothing can stop them.

          • Jonathan Cohen

few muslim countries even allow 3 months.

          • dutchnational

            A small addition.

One child families was only for the ethnic chinese. Minorities did not “suffer” one child policies. As of last year or so, if both parents are only child, they are allowed two children.

In China the number of retirees is growing rapidly and China is for the first time experiencing the large costs of having an elderly and ageing population.

Soon, or maybe already, India will have a bigger population, even though their growth is also diminishing.

          • Rodney Loder

Mao Zedong was a gift from Heaven he gave China the ability to have a one child family, (not many Hui’s in China over 90%Han) and when he died 1976 and the new regime was able to start one child family 79, India could never do that, so now it’s 2 child family I think it changed 2015, I stopped reading China News Magazine when they did that because robots make better workers and China is ideally suited for robotics.

  • Pave Way IV

Last year, the U.S. demanded the YPG raise enough forces for the SDF to take Raqqa. The YPG responded by recruiting many Turkish Kurds for the YPG, but that wasn’t nearly enough. They also started press-ganging all fighting-age males in Qamishli into a reserve force called the HPX. Nearly all of those forced conscripts were Arab – the Kurdish men were already serving in the YPG. Many conscripts were not even Syrian – they were Iraqi Arab refugees.

The HPX conscripts were supposedly for local security and garrison duty and only had to serve nine months. Both turned out to be a lie. The HPX conscripts will have to serve as long as the SDF says so (indefinitely), and many were thrown into the front lines of Raqqa months ago (500 in Feb according to ANHA – maybe a few thousand today). These are guys with six weeks of training and an AK under the command of the US and YPG. They are being used as cannon fodder in Raqqa because the SDF is a U.S.-created sham and the YPG doesn’t have nearly enough fighters for U.S. land/resource grabbing..

Now the US has ordered the Kurtdish Asayish forces to round up all the rest of the fighting-age male Arabs in northern Syria for HPX conscription, including those in the refugee camps and those from newly ‘liberated’ areas. This is supposedly to gear up for a push to Deir EzZor. So by the SDF ‘liberating’ areas from ISIS, the U.S. actually means liberating surviving fighting-age males to be forced to serve in the SDF for U.S. interests (land/resource theft).

The SDF is not quite the happy, all-volunteer, highly-motivated organic force portrayed by the US. The YPG is stretched way to thin to be very effective, and the lightly-armed HPX conscripts are not going to fight or die for U.S./Israeli interests. Raqqa may take a very long time, indeed.

    • dutchnational

As far as I know HXP is still nine months. Conscription in Northern Syria is just as compulsary as in the rest of Syria, only there it is several years and until one is 42 and not 30 like Northern Syria.

Sectarian BS when you attack one side of a picture without mentioning the worse part on the other side.

As for HXP in ftontline, this is BS too. As you very well know the 500 reported HXP in Raqqah region are not on the front line, they are holding forces in the liberated countryside of Raqqah and the only shots they fire can be in case of infiltration by IS or a frontal attack on a village or city.. In fact just like in any city or village where they are stationed.

As for your concluding statement, you must be happy to read that the south part of Raqqah city is now almost completely “clashing area” and soon will be fully liberated.

      • Pave Way IV

“…Sectarian BS when you attack one side of a picture without mentioning the worse part on the other side…”

Bullshit. I’m attacking the artificial U.S./Israeli-made SDF and the fascist Kurdish police state they are creating. I’m not attacking the YPG/YPJ soldiers or the average Syrian Kurds. Why are you equating the two as if they are the same thing? Their interests overlap, but less so as time goes on. The U.S. will kick the YPG/YPJ and the average Kurd to the curb when the land theft is complete. The U.S. and Israel want a fascist Syrian Barzanistan, not a social democratic paradise.

If by ‘the other side’ you mean the Syrian Army, then it most certainly does not press-gang either non-Syrians or IDP refugees into military service. In fact, the SAA seem to look the other way when many supposed ‘Syrian’ Kurds refused to serve the SAA.

I should be proven wrong about the imaginary nine-months of service right about now. There should be hundreds of the Qamishli conscripts rounded up last winter returning to civilian life. I’ll be waiting for those stories. The 500 HPX that ‘graduated’ in Februalry will be out in four months, right? They’re certainly not going to stay in for the peanuts the U.S. is secretly paying them (in defiance of the U.S. Constitution). Of course, this will all be white-washed away if it ever filters out to the MSM. In the mean time, it’s free guard slaves for the SDF.

“…As for HXP in ftontline, this is BS too. As you very well know the 500 reported HXP in Raqqah region are not on the front line, they are holding forces in the liberated countryside of Raqqah and the only shots they fire can be in case of infiltration by IS or a frontal attack on a village or city…”

No I DON’T know that. I only know the sanitized propaganda the U.S. sends out on behalf of the SDF. I don’t know if those 500 were actually the first ones. If so, then that means they were held captive for months until the U.S. could cobble a training program together. Does some kid grabbed by the Asayish last October get out now because he’s been in nine months? Or is their detention before training magically not counted as ‘service’ (probably their training as well). So the nine months is whatever the SDF wants it to be, isn’t it? And ‘not the front line’ can mean anything. The SDF can change their mind whenever they want – what is a conscript going to do about it?

“…As for your concluding statement, you must be happy to read that the south part of Raqqah city is now almost completely “clashing area” and soon will be fully liberated.

Liberated? Oh, you mean rid of ISIS to become part of the Kurdish U.S. puppet regime. When will the Arab ethnic cleansing and Mossad-trained Kurdish occupation police show up?

        • Jonathan Cohen

Why on earth should the US pay peanuts when we have trillions??? this has to BS!

        • dutchnational

Oh, and where did ethnic cleansing happen other then in the mind of turks and MIT inspired stooges. The UN investigated and reported there was no ethnic cleansing.

On the other hand, the 2013 report of the UN stated that FSA was involved of ethnic cleansing of kurds in Tel Abyad. Those that left Tel Abyad in 2015 for Turkey were mostly IS and their families. There are photo’s of borderguards of Turkey waving IS fighters, in civilian clothes (clean shaven) through where they disappeared in the crowd. Search the internet. IS families and symphathyzers are not allowed back. I would not call that ethnic cleansing but ethical cleansing.

Those are proven facts, not like your unproven allegations.

Closer and closer to liberate Deir Ezzor where SAA was fighting during 6 years surrounding by scums like daesh and US airforce.

  • That Guy

    Good news so far.
    Salute to the Tigers.

  • Attrition47

    Nicely done.

  • Barba_Papa

You’d think that after the resistance ISIS was putting up in Mosul the US and SDF would have planned for this kind of battle. It would appear that they didn’t, or severely underestimated. On the other hand the SAA so far seems to have been lucky to avoid this kind of urban battle with ISIS. As Palmyra fell into SAA hands twice fairly easily. I wonder how much of a resistance ISIS will put up inside Sukhnah, or if they will cut and run once faced with imminent encirclement. Contrary to the Iraqi army, the Turks, the SDF and the US the SAA seems fairly content with just encircling enemy strongholds and move on, rather then take them against all costs. Which seems to be less fun for ISIS, as they can’t play their favorite game of drawing an enemy in and make them bleed for every home and street.

Assadophyle sourpissers, and others too, will be pleased to know that, acc to normally accurate twitteraccounts, the advances of SDF in the south west (Shadaada?) and south east (Al Malik?) are going very rapidly now, after repelling a large counterattack with many IS killed The areas with clashes (not yet full control) have neared eachother with a gap of just a few hundred meters.

If this continues like this, the whole southern part of Raqqah will soon be under full SDF control.

    Biji SDF.

    • Gary Sellars

      Assadophyle ? GFY terror-sympathiser….

  • Gabriel Hollows

Good, don’t let the SDF zogbots steal any more Syrian land. Syria will be red again.

    • Gary Sellars

      Red with zogbot blood…

    • Thegr8rambino

lmao i love the term, so accurate

  • Jonathan Cohen

SDF should let Raqqa starve and go get the oil fields, bringing abortion rights to the oil workers.

    • Kell

      Good god wheres the humanity.

      • PZIVJ

Jonathan seems to be getting way out of hand, my guess he had way to much caffeine.
My only answer to this is counter-SPAM. :DDDDD

        • Kell

Such murderouse intent, I mean I know hes jewish but even other murderouse jews must blush.

          • PZIVJ

Some want to make this site look bad. I mean Richard D post in article above.
He is tactical and wants his post about child rape by Jewish pedophiles to be the first thing read, day after day. You may be anti jewish but you support this site and SAA. Do you think I am Jewish because I have some sympathy for the Kurdish people ??

          • Kell

No I did too but thats waneing as their land grabbing everyone said would happen is starting to happen.
I support freedom for all peoples and go against the oppresive forces that seek to hold humanity down, unfortunately jews do play a primary role in this, I seek truth no matter where it is or how difficult it is to except, follow truth and beauty and you will never go wrong.

          • PZIVJ

But what land grabbing right now ?
SDF front has not moved an inch south and SAA has cut them off at the river !
So what is starting to happen, the division of Syria ? How is this new news !

          • Kell

Yes its good indeed that they have cut them off, did you notice the crying and kevetching of the pro kurd crowd on here when that happened?
            Intention is everything.

          • John

Hey Kell. The whacko´s will always be there. The people who thoughtfully contribute here and other places, far outweigh the effects of the aggitators and lunatics. For me that is saying a lot because, I prefer a crew that is a little nuts. Take care kell.

      • Jonathan Cohen

Humanity is a virus killing the earth.

  • Alex Black

People, dutchnational is a racist, Kurd supporting dummy. He contradicts himself all the time. Most of his stories are lies, or highly biased analysis. If you lose your mind or get triggered every time he posts some nonsense, you are going to be wasting your time.

Now for some Kurdish fun facts, it seems that the SAA made a foothold on the Euphrates and can move fast, hopefully getting to deir ezzor long before the Kurds and their fan boys capture raqqa. The strategy seem to be to move vast forces through the desert, and then attack north and east simultaneously, thereby pinning ISIS in a situation where they could be surrounded at any moment, they are being attacked on two axis, with the third being the river, and the SDF waiting on the other side. This is a brilliant strategy.

I am wondering whether or not a portion of the SAA force will travel south to secure the cross roads. It seems strategically valuable and would allow for an independent route towards deir ezzor. It would also make it easier to cut ISIS reinforcement.

I dont know if you guys noticed, but the pocket near al tanf disappeared of the map today. This should free up a substantial amount of SAA soldiers and shorten the line of the front. I wonder if some of those men could be redeployed for the siege of As Sukhanah.

There seems to be much secrecy around the operations happening right now, which is fine, as long as they are achieving results.

  • Xanatos

If kurds used sarin in raqqa now, Nikki Haley will blame Assad at the United nations within the hour.

    • Thegr8rambino

haha i know right? i dont think there is any hope in saving her brain, she is 100% zionist

  • Kell

    Exelent map

  • John

It is going to be fun for a while in Raqqa. The SAA might even be at DE before it gets wrapped up there.

    • Kell

      Im hopeing so

    • Red Tick Alert

DE is more important as it has a lot of the producing areas.

      • John

I have been looking more closely at that part of the map for a while. It´s just my opinion but, If the SDF does not get those oil fields, they got nuthin´. I think this is going a lot faster than anybody would have thought, especially Coalition Command. Have a great day Red and thank you for the post.

        • Red Tick Alert

Yep, have you seen this – https://journal-neo.org/2017/07/25/vying-with-kurds-turkey-opens-a-new-front-in-syria/

Have you wondered if we are being played ?; I just have this feeling that the EU + UK are closer to Turkey than it seems + this is all of their way at getting back at the US -if not that I am missing something. Cheers for now, stay safe.

          • John

At times Red. But, no one, no country, no group of countries, comapnies, even individual people can keep it fake past the time when reality pulls the chain tight. So, they tried but, now we are watching the ´didn´t last ´ part of it and everybody is screaming and scrambling. It always ends like that when the show is over. My two cents on it.

          • Red Tick Alert

and spot on if I may add.

    • Thegr8rambino

      deir ezzor?

      • John

        Hey. :)

Yes, I was referring to Deir Ezzor.

        • Thegr8rambino

          ah okay cool :)))
