The Armed Forces of Ukraine are reinforcing the presence of military equipment and personnel in the Kherson region, which is located on the south of Ukraine, just north of Crimea. According to residents of the Genichesky district, there is movement of heavy military equipment, in particular, anti-tank rocket launchers, the Krym.Realii information website reported on Tuesday.
The spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vladislav Seleznev, explained that “this is the needed for rapid and effective responding to the situation that may arise in connection with possible aggressive actions of the Russian side.” Earlier Monday, the head of the Crimea, Sergey Aksenov, said that he does not believe in the possibility of an armed conflict on the peninsula.
“From the point of view of the possibility of military actions, I do not believe in this. Today, Russia is a nuclear state that is able to defend its interests and its allies anywhere in the world,” Aksenov stressed.
Crimea became part of Russia after the referendum in 2014. Kiev still refuses to accept the reunification of Crimea and Russia and considers the peninsula an ‘occupied’ territory. Moscow stresses that the holding of the referendum in Crimea conformed to the norms of international law and the UN Charter.
