Turkish-led Forces Shot Down 2 Syrian Warplanes Over Idlib: Syrian State Media

Click to see the full-size image

On March 1, Turkish-led forces shot down 2 Syrian warplanes over the Syrian province of Idlib, the country’s state-run news agency SANA reported. According to the report, the pilots ejected safely and landed in the government-controlled area.

The Turkish Defense Ministry claimed that the dowhed warplanes were Su-24 that attempted to attack (!) Turkish aircraft. The Su-24 is attack aircraft designed to provide a close air support and destroy ground target. Therefore, the Turkish military claim about the Syrians’ attempt to attack Turkish aircraft with Su-24s is a blatant lie.

The Turkish Defense Ministry also claimed that its forces had destroyed 2 air defense systems belonging to the Syrian military.

The incident with Syrian warplanes happened a few hours after Turkish f0rces (or the Syrian military according to another version) shot down their own combat drone in the same area.

Earlier on the same day, SANA released an article claiming that the Syrian military had closed airspace over Idlib. It seems that the implementation of this claim may appeared to be a real challenge.

Army Command announces closing airspace over northwestern region, particularly Idleb (source):

A military source announced that the airspace over the northwestern region in Syria, particularly over Idleb province has been closed, and any aircraft that violates the Syrian airspace will be considered as a hostile aircraft that must be downed and prevented from achieving its hostile goals.

A military source told SANA that the “Turkish regime’s forces are continuing to carry out hostile acts against our armed forces which are operating in Idleb province and its surroundings whether through targeting our soldiers who are facing terrorists directly, or through providing all forms of support to the armed organizations which are on the list of terrorism according to the international law.”

The source noted that “These repeated Turkish hostile acts will not succeed in saving terrorists from the strikes of the Syrian Arab Army, and they prove the Turkish regime’s disavowal of all the previous agreements including Sochi memorandum.”

The source added that “based on the adherence of the Syrian Arab Army to its constitutional and national duties in defending the sovereignty of the state and protecting its security and territorial integrity, the Army and Armed Forces General Command announces closing the airspace for flights and for any drones over the northwestern region in Syria, particularly over Idleb province.”

“Any aircraft that violates the Syrian airspace will be dealt with as a hostile aircraft that must be downed and prevented from achieving its hostile goals,” the source added.

For the last 3 days, it seems Russia is letting Turkey do whatever they want in Syria.
Turkey is flying drones over Idlib, destroying tens and tens of tanks, retaking a lot of territory, and i don’t see Russia reacting. And now Turkey shoot two Syrian warplanes.
What is going on ? Why Russia and SAA looks suddenly not willing to fight ?

    • Lone Ranger

At least your comment stole me a small smile, so I stopped smiling since the Turks began to slaughter the SAA under the indifferent gaze of their greatest allies, a couple of days ago.

    • Rhodium 10

All the problem is that SAA didnt fight in nayrab and saraqib( as usual along the syrian war) like tiger forces did!..they had superior manpower ( ATGM, T-90) and fled!…if the terrorist would have defeated there…the turkish attacks would be useless….but now it seems that SAA are unable to liberate Idlib and even to stop Turkish/terrorist offensive!…the need more implication of Russian forces and Hezbollah!

    • Angry Guy

Erdogan knew Putin wont defend its ally so he proceed with operation. Lets make things perfectly clear: Russia had all the time to prepare for what is happening. Turkey openly supports terrorists and commits aggression against a foreign country which are violations of international law. Turkish soldiers are beheading syrian soldiers and torturing them, they are ISIS tier criminals. They are absolutely fair game to hunt and exterminate. Russia has every legitimate right to respond but it wont because of Putin. Right now russian journalists are missing inside Turkey…. Putin is a worst disgrace Russia ever had, arguably worse than Jeltsin and and spineless double dealing coward psychopath with no affections to Syria. Disgrace to Russia, its people and is actively destroying reputation of the russian army. Russia is a paper tiger, and threw Syria under the bus. When you have allies like Russia, which tie your hands for a a proper retaliation you don’t need any enemies. Unfortunately for Syria they have not 1 enemy but at lest 2 hyenas (Turkey and Israel) who want a piece of Syria. I think it is a high time for russian military leadership to take stuff in their own hands and ignore Putin orders.

” Tehran demanded that Turkey immediately stop striking at the Syrian army, threatening to launch a large-scale missile attack on militants and the Turkish military without warning. Iran’s statement is primarily due to the ”’absence of any reaction to the Turkish attack by Russia”’.
      Подробнее на: http://avia-pro.net/news/iran-postavil-turcii-ultimatum-po-sirii-prigroziv-moshchnym-raketnym-udarom

I am quite confused by the almost normal null reaction of my beloved Russia to the boldness of Israel and now Turkey, although it may be that Russia is leaving Erdogan to exceed all possible limits, before letting them fall on them all the fury that characterizes an angry big Russian bear without any mercy.
But in the meantime I think that the Iranian ally of Syria is already angry and we all witnessed what the Iranians are capable of doing once angry.

      • Judgement

Big Russian bear is kind of poor, cranky and not so happy with Putin right now. He has bigger priorities than Syria.
And what is Iran capable of doing once angry (besides shooting down commercial airliners)?

        • Terence Silvestre Jr.

Speaking of Putin’s priorities what do you think will happen to Russian geopolitical interests and all its maritime bases there if the SAA loses war and Syria is invaded completely by the Turks my smart friend?

    • Rhodium 10

Sana news through Al Mayadeen news have told that Syrian jets downed are false… it have been 3 Turkish drones and no Syrian jets have been shot down!…for other side Hezbollah and SAA special forces have retaken Saraqib…they have control of many neighborhood inside the city!( accord journalist of Al Mayadeen on ground)

      • Terence Silvestre Jr.

Please, share us your source quickly my friend.
Because you don’t know how good such news would make me if it turns out to be real and true.

    • John Brown

Totally wrong. Turkey, Russia, Syria, China and Iran are playing the racist supremacist global Jewish Satanic slave empire dictatorship, perfectly.

Russia can stop the Turkish advance any time they want to by pulling the plug on the Turkish economy as Russia is Turkey’s number 1 trading partner with China an at number 2. Turkey gets their oil to fuel their military vehicles from Iran and Russia.

Erdogan will be sending many millions of Covid virus refugees to Europe at the request of China in retaliation for Israel ordering its USSA slaves to release it in China, and this will be to bring down and over throw the the racist supremacist global Jewish Satanic slave empire dictatorship, occupation governments there. I bet we will see the zio collaborators, Merkel, Makaroni etc flee for their lives to the USSA or Israel. World war is breaking out started by Israel and its lord its lord Satan with their biological warfare attack on China.

Erdogan did go along with the overthrow of Syria until the Zio death squads came for him. All those in Turkey who still support the racist supremacist global Jewish Satanic slave empire dictatorship, will now lose all credibility when they don’t come to Turkeys aid which will solidify Erdogan’s rule .

I heard the same argument when Putin went to Israel, he was a sell out etc. Than a month later Syria makes huge gains against Israeli ISIS and Al Cia Da Israel. Actions count, in war words are just propaganda to throw off the enemy. Facts: If Erdogan goes against Russia it will give Israel the opportunity to implement the Yinon plan on Turkey, which they tried to do just over 4 years ago but Putin saved Erdogan and his families etc lives. Erdogan and all his relatives and friends will be murdered by Mossad death squads, Turkey will be turned into one big Raqqa, bombed to bits and then broken up, with Israel getting Western Turkey along the Med, the Kurds will get central southern Turkey, Armenians Eastern Turkey, half the Turkish population will be killed and the rest will be forced to flee to Germany. Turkey as a state and people will cease to exist forever, and Erdogan would go down in history as the worst Turkish leader in history.

Erdogan is buying time until the S-400s and the pipelines from Russia are all operational, as Turkey is vulnerable to economic sanctions and air attack until then. Erdogan has to pretend to be neutral until the gas pipelines and the S-400s are all fully operational as Turkey is still vulnerable to Zio economic sanctions and attack until all these systems are finished and ready to battle against the racist supremacist global Jewish satanic slave empire dictatorship.

Turkey is getting transit fees in the billions from Russia from the oil adn gas pipelines and China is investing tens of billions in Turkey and hundreds of billions in Iran. Turkey will be exporting gas from the gas fields off the coast of Cyprus and Palestine making those billions, not Israel! You lose again! Well does money count? Do people care about money? Do they want to be rich? Does money matter? Maybe in your fantasy world no one wants to be rich or get paid. Putin is fighting fire with oil literally. I bet Erdogan like Trump Macarnoni etc., a ll have the money counting machines and that they all want to get paid!!!!!!! Show them them the money!!!!!

Turks will be bringing those bags of money to the bank, a non Jewish bank and they won’t be using zio dollars and they will be buying gold. What do you mean tens and tens of tanks, for Syria fails to have those tens upon tens of tanks to loose in the first place, and they have taken little to none of any areas controlled by the Syrian forces.Russia and Syria are playing a patient game with Turkey as the terrorist are destroyed within that area as Turkey don’t want those terrorist in Turkey, so its better to destroy them in a war they can’t win, that way everyone is happy.!!!!

Allowing Turkey to resupply and allowed Turkey drone flying over Idlib was another SAA bunder. Get ready SAA, Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas – tomorrow Gantz is going to end Bibi’s regime. We are coming to all of you motherfuckers, the IDF is going to restore back order. • AJ

Starting a big war which is certain to kill hundreds or thousands of your own people is just silly

          • <>

You mean hundreds of thousands of Lebanese, we will have maybe a couple of thousands dead. Beirut will be destroyed like Drezden.

          • AJ

Perhaps but then you will have years of guerilla warfare to deal with & the casualties will mount up like the US in Afghanistan. Would the Israeli public tolerate this.

          • <>

Yes we would, we’ve already been in Lebanon 18 years. We can conquer them again if we want, but first we will make sure their entire country will be ruined for the next 50 years.

          • gryzor84

so you’re basically talking about completely indiscriminate destruction. I’m starting to doubt you’re a real soldier man.

          • <>

gryzor, it was proven twice already that southern Lebanese peopel support and help Hezbollah to kill Israelis. I’m not calling the shots, but I would definitely expect us to make them pay a heavy price.

          • gryzor84

When was this ? what I see proven is the hellish intent of the average Israel to humiliate and destroy the whole of Lebanon and you’re a prime example ? they simply fought you out of the territory for 17 years and stopped hostilities when you finally accepted to go in 2000.

          • <>

I mean First and Second Lebanese wars, it all started when they let insurgents attack Israelis at our nothern border. Then we went in and they helped Hezbollah, I view all of them as terrorists.

          • gryzor84

I thought about the same wars, when Israel came in , flattened Beirut in the name of taking out some PLO elements, and then settled and occupied the whole of the water-rich South all the way to the Litani and used that as an excuse to do child labor as well there, evidence is plenty and acknowledged, they did that through the corrup SLA as a proxy force. In 2006 they tried their luck at getting back there but failed, claiming some never-confirmed skirmish where Hezbollah supposedly attacked first. You attacked them, you drew first blood, and every single Lebanese understandably knows that. They will fight you to the last man, even if you decide genocide, rest assured. They’re used to suffering at the Israelis’ hands and fear no one. Gantz and his brass will know better than to test them, you’ll see, this massive conflict fortunately won’t happen.

          • <>

Myabe it will maybe not, I for one am sick of our weak policy done by Bibi. Over half of the Israelis share the same feeling as me, we have been sold for over a decade so that man can sit on the PM chair while Israelis are being targeted with rockets, shootings and stabbings. Not anymore.

          • gryzor84

There have been zero stabbing, rockets, or shooting from the Lebanese side since 2006, again stop equating them with Hamas and the Gazan situation, this has nothing to do. Yet the IDF has targeted commanders and officers from Hezbollah at least three times since then, using the Syrian civil war as cover and justification and hampering their fight against Sunni terrorists among which those sheltered and covered/aided by all means possible by Tsahal.

          • gryzor84

and you’re proud of that comparison ? Drezden was a horrific , massive war crime and is recognized as such in history now. Even though it was of course WWII and Nazi Germany absolutely had it coming, this specific punitive bombing made no sens other than for the Allies to just hurt the average German. Even McNamara, one of the most illustrous US secretaries of state said it verbatim right after retiring and in his taped memoirs.

          • <>

They can disarm, we won’t accept any more rocket threats on our northern area.

          • gryzor84

how about you disarm your illegal nukes ? and who are you to demand such a thing ? how about you get the heck of the remaining territories you still occupy to this day on their land called the Shebaa Farms, and stop trying to physically expand the border fence elsewhere in the South ? in their entire history Hezbollah only attacked you where and when your own occupied them.

          • <>

Don’t worry gryzor, Hamas will be an excellent example for Hezbollah. Then they can decide.

          • gryzor84

I’m not worrying, nor do I have any love for Hamas, quite the contrary, and I told you before. Equating them with Hezbollah simply makes no factual sense.

          • <>

It makes perfect sense – they both work to kill Israelis. The Israeli public has had enough, if the polls are correct then tomorrow will be a big change in our policies.

          • gryzor84

You take that killing completely out of context and this is intellectually dishonest. You are imposing an all-out crippling blockage preventing the Gazan to have any chance at rebuilding or even asking for an alternative to Hamas that also uses the dire situation big time for PR and keep itself in power. In Lebanon you destroyed half their country once and tried again in 2006, hence the generalized resentment and will to resist and fight your next onslaught among every piece of Lebanese society, that was once much more mixed and nuances towards Israel. I told you before man : you reap what you sow. If you wanna sow even bigger wars, the rewards will be mass killings in return, more hate as well and little benefit on the ground.

          • Lone Ranger

Thats a lot of crying Shlomo…

I bet you aren’t willing to be one of the couple of thousands dead… Well neither is anyone else in the Israeli Diaper Farce.

          • gryzor84

stop the big talk man, you know this won’t happen, as well as the mutually devastating consequences such a total war will have. These are not stone-throwing Palestinians you are talking about and you know it full well. If anything Gantz knows better than to go even deeper in chaos than his crazy predecessor.

          • <>

Let them shoot their rockets gryzor, we can shoot some of our toys back. Just don’t expect us to show any mercy again, they kill Israelis – then we will kill Lebanese hundreds times fold.

          • gryzor84

you never showed mercy for anyone in the first place man, stop joking around. You kill neighbors by the thousands at every occasion you call “self defense” and that one doesn’t fool anyone in the world community including your own allies bar the crazy Trump admin of course.

          • <>

It can be avoided, if UNIFIL takes a more harsh response vs Hezbollah and do their job in SL villages.

          • gryzor84

UNIFIL also told you to stop trying to encroach on their border territories by moving border fences forward routinely and stop the daily overflight and occasional bombings.

          • <>

Yeah? and who was supposed to stop Hezbollah’s tunnels that we’ve found and destroyed? 6 of them a year ago.

          • gryzor84

those tunnels were leftovers from past wars and never actually used. And they appear AFTER the Israeli 17-year occupation of their lands. And yes, to answer your question, the day the ISrael stop abusing at the border , end the daily low-altitude overflights and breaking the sound barrier over farmlands to kill cattle and provoke terror among villages and small towns, remove its forces from the Lebanese Shebaa Farms that they still obstinately occupy, then Hezbollah will have to disarm or fully integrate within the regular Lebanese Armed Forces. So long as they don’t fire a shot at you first, they have as much legitimacy as the IDF to remain ready and armed for a possible confrontation, since the Lebanese Army is no match for the IDF in case they decide to grab lands again in their country.

          • russ

Heyyy… maybe if you got some more of our money($US) you could hire ISIS freedom fighters from Turkey to fight for you because we all know Israeli IDF aren’t the least interested in getting in harms way.

These strikes by the Russian Air Force came in response to several attacks launched by the Turkish military on the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions in the Jabal Al-Zawiya region and Saraqib area. …

The author says that the Su-24 is purely for ground attack, and not for air to air.
The Su-24 have a GSh-23-6 (6-barreled 23mm canon), that is more than adequate to rip a plane or helicopter apart.
So, if the crew wants to, they can take out enemy planes.

Often SF authors of aviation related posts, dont know enough to sound credible.

Turkey is toast. Not sure what Turkey is trying to do. What they are doing is not sustainable. Once a country invades another country, the country should have a plan to stay there and maintain the position. No way Turkey can do that and all it does is to invite counter attacks. can’t maintain the position and just not sustainable.

  • shylockracy

Well, Putin can’t postpone it for much longer, he either has Russia step aside for his Zioterrorists wahhabi US/TUrkey/ISISrael/al-Qaeda/France/Saudi/UK “partners” to take Idlib as they’ve taken other parts of Syria, or he finally prepares Russia for a showdown that his “NATO/Turkey partners” are not at all avoiding.

    • pk

It is not that simple. Russia probably wants Turkey not to become a vassal of US.

  • Dibass

Russia has signed deals with Turkey worth billions of dollars – from nuclear reactors, to defense, and other things. Syria is now a burden financially, politically, militarily, and economically.

Russia won’t get into a shooting war with Turkey to save the Alawi (an apostate sect) who claim to be Muslims. The Alawis must be removed from power even by force, just like they overthrew the Syrian government by force in the Military coup of 1966. The Alawis killed many people who opposed their government in the late sixties.

Turkey must go all the way to Damascus. If Assad wants a peaceful solution to the Syrian war, he should agree to a nationwide cease-fire deal that will see the return of refugees and a FREE-AND-FAIR election nationwide.

for some rag-heads on this forum who try to paint assad as some innocent victim of aggression, let them explain why he does not want a political solution that will lead to a free-and-fair election across Syria. Oh, he is afraid the Sunnis will vote any Alawi candidate out and close their borders to Iran and Hezbollah.

    • BlueOctopusBoy

Dude…is a religious cleansing you are after? Why care if someone is alawi, Sunni, druze w.e.. Syria deserves peace and respite from war… Yes political solution must be reached which is fair and this means all sides will have to give a little…

      • cactus

some people don’t understand that the syrian army has 250k personnel the majority of them are sunni …it’s not about sunni alaoui or shia …it’s bigger than that it’s a proxy war by turkey that now turned into a real direct war and invasion of syrian land …the syrians at this point should all unit against the turkish invasion and protect their lands and homes from isis headchoppers

The SAA doesn’t have 250K personnel. In 2018 the SAA was down to 25K after being forced to muster out well over 12K disgruntled soldiers that were burned out from constant combat and pissed off for being forced to re-enlist two or three times. Most of the SAA is made up of pro-government local militias of dubious quality and loyalty. Now Iran’s PMU’s number around 200K and basically have taken over where they’re stationed. The Syrian general public resents their presence and probably will turn their hidden guns on them if Iran refuses to withdraw the PMU’s once the fighting ends.

      • cactus

some people don’t understand that the syrian army has 250k personnel the majority of them are sunni …it’s not about sunni alaoui or shia …it’s bigger than that it’s a proxy war by turkey that now turned into a real direct war and invasion of syrian land …the syrians at this point should all unit against the turkish invasion and protect their lands and homes from isis headchoppers

      • Dibass

I am not advocating for a genocide. You misunderstand me. I want Syrian refugees to return home. After so much nationwide suffering, I prefer to see a free-and-fair election in Syria that will give power to whomever the majority of Syrians choose.

Assad doesn’t want this. He knows the Alawites will lose, Hezbollah will be cut off, and Russia may be forced to give up its military bases in Syria.

By letting Iran ship weapons through Syria, Assad brought untold suffering to his people. Israel is the root-cause of the Syrian bloodshed. Israel will not give up on it goal of severing the Iran-Hezbollah link through Syria no matter how many Syrians are killed as a result. This is the reason why I hate Iran so much. They brought this mess upon the Syrians.

If you want to fight Israel, don’t you have enough missiles that can reach Israel from Iran? Why rely on proxies and endangering other populations by moving weapons around? If you don’t have the guts to fight your enemy directly, why not back off?

Seriously, the Iranian regime has caused so much suffering to untold number of people in the Middle East including, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen (the Saudis are the main culprits here).

        • BlueOctopusBoy

I understand ..but Israel is also fighting an indirect war against Iran…because they too have the capability to launch an assault on Iran but they never do that… So both sides are fighting out in Syria… But your issue with Assad seems to be because of his religious orientation which is not nice…

          • Dibass

My issue with Assad is not only his religious orientation. He and his father are even incompetent leaders. Just ask yourself which wise leader will bring this kind of death and destruction upon his people? Assad knows very well that allowing Iran to ship weapons through Syria to Hezbollah will cross Israel’s red lines, yet that was exactly why both he and his father did. Syria would be fine today if not for Iran.

Take a good example with the Iraqis. despite the Shiites of Iraq maintaining close ties with Iran, they made it clear to the Mullahs that Iraq won’t be a battlefield between the U.S and Tehran. If not for opposition from Shiite leaders like Muqtada Al-sadr, Iraq will be another country under Israeli fire because of Iran. Iran from the actions will not mind Iraqi civilians dying in any proxy war it fights with the west provided the war does not reach Iranian soil.

Lebanon is under serious financial pressure and its economy is getting destroyed due to Hezbollah. the country may soon also slide into a civil war as a result.

So why is Iran doing all this? Why wouldn’t Iran and its proxies attack Israel directly without dragging other countries into the fight? They always boast about how mighty their army is. What is the essence of having such an army that never has the guts to attack your enemies directly?

Israel does not attack Iran directly because it wants America to bear the cost of doing so. However, Israel has killed many Iranian forces and proxies in the past. How has Iran retaliated for any of such strikes.

Khamenei is a coward and so are his subjects. Soleimani just got killed in a humiliating manner. What did the Mullahs do? Of course issue fierce and bloody threats, but do nothing apart from destroying some military equipment that the Americans can replace in a day – meanwhile, Iran cannot replace Soleimani exactly.

The killing of Soleimani has opened my eyes to Iran’s cowardice. You would think for all the threats and bragging that they would retaliate in kind to such an attack. They made a lot of threats about how the U.S will be driven out of the Middle East, then they turn to their proxies for support, calling meetings, with flags everywhere and stuffs like that. What a coward nation.

Turkey might be all the names you call them on this forum. but at least they are a brave people deserving of respect. When they commit to doing something, they do it. Unlike the cowards you support.

          • BlueOctopusBoy

Good point you have made. Iran did retaliate by firing missiles to the US bases which is the first time since WW2 any country has directly attacked a US base, regardless of what Trump says there was 50+ casualities in that strike. Note how US uses “brain trauama” as a metaphor for missile strike casualities… Iran is playing a dangerous game but it is the only way to fight back the hegomons.. You agree that one of your reasons to hate Assad is his religious orientation, in other words if he was sunni you would like him more despite his other actions… That is why I disagree strongly.

          • Dibass

So why then do I dislike the Saudi regime? are they not Sunni?

There is no justification to like any evil leader regardless of whether they are Sunni or Shiite. A non-Muslim honest leader is better than a Muslim tyrant leader.

Assad is acting like a thug in Syria. you won’t notice this because you have already put him on a pedestal.

You still haven’t commented on why Iran prefers to drag other poor nations into its fight with Israel, while using such countries as a shield against a war on the Iranian soil.

Iran should have some dignity and be willing to make blood and monetary sacrifices it wants other countries to make on its behalf.

IRAN IS THE CAUSE OF THIS DEADLY BLOODSHED IN SYRIA. I want you to proof me wrong on this. This does not mean I support Israel or the U.S or the Wahhabis of Saudi Arabia. I am just making an objective opinion.

          • BlueOctopusBoy

Assad isn’t a saint worthy of praise…his regimn has done horrible things..but
He has openly said he will allow free elections once the western sponsored terrorism is defeated…Holding an election in the middle of war is not a good idea because population can’t freely vote.
Iran funded and armed proxy groups to counter Irsael..US funds and arms terror outfits for “regimn change” purposes…so both sides play proxy war game… Was Iran also the reason why US destroyed Libya, Iraq, Lebanon, Ukraine, Sudan, Nigeria? All these wars were made with the same reason as in Syria..to bring “freedom to people”…

          • Dibass

the U.S never invaded or militarily attacked Nigeria.
Libya, Iraq and the rest of the countries you mention had leaders the U.S was unjustly opposed to. I do not support America’s wars and I pray that God will make them pay dearly for all the suffering and death they have caused to so many around the world.

There is no problem with Iran arming its proxies. My only issue is that Iran involves other countries in the process and these countries end up being the ones receiving much of the trouble. Syria, Lebanon, Iraq are an example.

THE U.S IS STILL OCCUPYING IRAQ BECAUSE OF IRAN!

Lebanon is being targeted with sanctions and demonstrations that could easily lead to a civil war that will kill another hundreds of thousands. In Iraq, the Americans are now trying to divide Iraq between Sunnis and Shiites. this is very likely to start a civil war that will claim another untold number of lives. When the bloodshed begins, Iran just sits and offers feeble militia supports here and there while warning the U.S and Israel not to launch any attack on the Iranian soil.

Didn’t they have presidential elections? Every seven years, so what are you talking about?

      • Dibass

Most of Syria’s population is displaced. Please, check you stats on the Syrian population and tell me if it is logical to even consider holding elections under such circumstances.

The problem on this forum is that most people have a fixed belief about recent events and nothing is going to move it.

There is no way you can understand what is going on in Syria without digging deep into their history. Please, do. I also supported Assad blindly until I started checking up on some background info that you will never find on sites like this.

I know that the U.S is an evil empire, but that does not mean I should support Assad even when millions are clearly suffering under his rule.

I keep asking a question on this forum that no one has answered so far: Why the fuck does Assad refuse to negotiate a peace deal that will see the return of refugees and a nation-wide free-and-fair election? Why?

The Turks, U.S.A and even Israel will agree to such a deal. Even the hypocrite Iran once said that the future of Syria should be decided by Syrians. So why wouldn’t they push Assad to negotiate such a deal?

The Answer is: A free-and-fair nationwide election in Syria will give rise to a Sunni president. And the Iran – Hezbollah link will face some uncertainties. Secondly, Russia is not sure a Sunni-dominated Syrian government will allow the Russian naval base in Tartus, and other military assets in Syria. Assad is worried that his Alawite minority supporters will suffer revenge from a Sunni government.

  • BlueOctopusBoy

People here in SF thinks Syrian army is the best in the Arab world, 10 years experience w.e. but they seriously underestimate Turkey, just because the y had a coup doesn’t mean they are disfunctional…if Daddy Russia doesn’t come for help, it’s end game for SAA… SF is obv a Pro-SAA outlet, but don’t let it believe that SAA are invincible…reality must be accepted

    • Kananda

the syrian army was always shitty. they lost all wars against israel. within 6-12 hours was always completely destroyed the SAA. syria was able only destroy lebanon. nothing else.

  • gustavo

Russia has allowed Turkey to invade Syria and take possession of Idlib. So, Russian has given to Turke the north part of Syria (Idlib-Afrin-north Euphrates river). Good for Russia welcome to western ideology power club.

  • Boxman

Well, so much for Russia the great white hope. They’ve officially rolled over, folks. Russia went into Syria in 2015 knowing it didn’t have the conventional military capability to deter Turkey, Israel, or the US, but they did it anyway, because they thought their nuclear deterrent would be enough.

I warned about it then, and especially after the Turks blatantly shot down and murdered a Russian pilot and Russia could do little but condemn and levy sanctions. At that point it was clear Putin had gone into Syria with no plan as to what happens if the Turks or Israel/US just decide to call the bluff and attack.

This is the watershed moment, and if Putin backs down now, it will mark the beginning of the end for his administration.

How the Jets todsy were shot down…Modern Warfare:

E-7 AEW&C has detected 3 Su-24s and alerted F-16 CAP in region (Hatay)
F-16 didnt lock on to Su-25s, its radar was off but fired 2 AIM-120C7 with radar data (Link 16) from E-7.
So Su-24s couldn’t notice radar lock. E-7 assisted C7 till its own radar active in last seconds

    • My friend, it seems that you have not understood anything in the last 5 years. Every point you made is false.

      • Kananda

        he understood, you never will

    • 1. Syria is still ruled by Bashar, that proves all your points about deterrence false.
      2. You should read your sources about 2016 again. THe shootdown of the Russian jet was a fatal mistake by Erdogan. NAto decided not to support his action, Russia sanctioned Turkey, the economy broke down, the Lira lost half of its price. Then came the 2016 Coup against Erdogan, he nearly got killed. Two weeks later he was in Moscow to apologise.

  • Wegan

    Clearly we’re missing something here.
Russia has been generally good to Syria so far, except for letting Israel thin the herd from time to time.
Turkey has a huge Army, and them getting into the war fully committed is a very dangerous situation. It will drain resources from Russia and Iran. Turkey’s economy is not doing well but they can count on financial support from the west.
The west can print as many Dollars and Euros as needed to finance the Turkish war. That’s their biggest weapon.
Turkey buying more hardware will make the Military industrial complex produce more and improve the economy a bit.
But…if an economic crisis exposes the structural weakness of the US economy hits, then all falls apart for the west. Turkey will lose support and will go for broke to avoid an unavoidable humiliation.

As the Afghan and Vietnam war proved. No one can defeat a nation determined to fight. The US was such a huge superpower when it fought Vietnam, they event used chemical weapons against the population (agent orange).
One soldier who became a senator afterward was cowardly bombing peasants from above and built a career out of that. At the end, what happened? The US left. What happened in Afghanistan? The US left.
