Turkish-led Forces Reentered Saraqib Following Collapse Of Syrian Army Defense Northwest Of Town

Click to see the full-size image

Members of al-Qaeda-linked Idlib groups embedded with Turkish troops have reentered the town of Saraqib in eastern Idlib following the collapse of the Syrian Army defense northwest of the town last night.

The attack was directly backed by Turkish artillery strikes on positions of the Syrian Army. Al-Qaeda members were actively using Turkish-supplied armoured vehicles and even MANPADs.

According to pro-Turkish sources, Saraqib is now fully in the hands of ‘Idlib rebels’ (i.e. Turkish troops and their al-Qaeda friends). Pro-government sources claim that the Syrian Army is preparing for a counter-attack in the area.

Russian media outlets citing ‘anonymous sources’ claim that Saraqib is still in the hands of the Syrian Army. These claims are vague. Photo and video evidence from the ground indicate that in the best case (for the Syrian Army) it’s now contested.

Local sources name the Syrian Army overcommitment to the avdance south of the M4 highway among one of the results of the recent setbacks in Saraqib. According to them, a large number of trained and expirienced units were redeployed from Saraqib to southern Idlib. Other issues the lack of coordination among pro-government units and close-air-support.

Why not drop a FOAB again….?

    • God (now with coronavirus)

this is starting to get as a considerable option to me

      • Lone Ranger

        😇

    • JnAndris

Oh, enough with this nonsense. “FOAB” can be deployed only by a cargo plane-an Ilyushin for example. Extremely dangerous even without all the MANPADs. There are no wunderwaffen solutions. Just the Syrians should learn to hold their ground more effectively.

      • Lone Ranger

It could be dropped from high altitude.
I think the Tu-96, Tu-160 and Il-96 can all carry it.
        One bomb, problem solved…

        • Kananda

          nothing is solved.

            It will be.

          your problem :)

          • Lone Ranger

            Not really :_)

  • ruca

The battle can’t move forward 100% of the time. This is just a minor setback. Look at the progress in the south.

    • Ayman

The Opposition Forces gave up the south and left it.
Therefore the fast takeover from SAA.
Probably they will concentrate to keep M4 line.

      • ruca

Which makes them easier to target.

    • Bobby Twoshoes

I fully agree, all this bitching and moaning from weekend SAA supporters is almost as bad as the Hasbara and MIT trolls. 1,000s of square kilometres liberated recently and people are sooking about this inconvenience? The roaches can’t hold or they would have held the south and M5 and they certainly can’t develop this much further, when the Tigers are done in the south it will be back to Turkey hunting with some added motivation.

      • Bobby Twoshoes

.. and reinforcements redeployed from the shortened frontline.

      • ruca

Also they are taking very very heavy losses. Hopefully some of their best rats are getting their homosexual virgins. This is great for the future battles.

    • gustavo

Wrong, progress must be everywhere !It is not a minor setback, it is an incredible setback close to stupidity.

      • ruca

Well then get in there and show them how it’s done. Let us know how it feels to have large caliber weapons pointed at you.

  • Wizzy

Turkey doesn’t get it, Putin is letting them. There are no civilians in Neyrab or Saraqib, carpet bomb the place. Where are them Hellducks?

    • Ma_Laoshi

Turkey does get that Putin is letting them get away with a lot–the open question is with how much exactly. Because of the end of the day these are still NATO troops, and slaughtering them carries more consequences than doing the same with cheap jihadi trash.

And all that quite apart from that the last thing Moscow wants is to drive Erdogan back into NATO’s arms. Even though, one might argue it’s preferable to park this unstable megalomaniac in your enemies’ camp. What a mess.

      • GuyQ

NATO troops? Hahaha. A lot were killed in Donsass. And these rats from Turkey will be killed here.

    • Ayman

Since when SAA or Russia care if there are civilians???
They bomb Hospitals and Markets if there are civilians or not.

      • Dawn

Of course their do.. They bomb nothing else than hospitals and markets.. Assad obviously hate the hospitals he have build for populace and he hates bakers too – and we now that all Al Kaida and ISIS members are skilled bakers and market sellers and have come to Syria to bake bread and sell fishes on the market :))

On the second tough – u might just be brainwashed and stupid..

Numerous targeted #AssadPutin attacks on schools, kindergardens and hospitals across #Idlib today killed at least 13 civilians and injured 25 more. Most victims are children.

Take ur retarded, many times debunked ISIS propaganda elsewhere jihady scum..

          • Ayman

You can deny as much you like, but the world knows what Russia and SAA do!
The Reporter with the Twitter link is a Jihadi to your understanding?
            He cares about human lives.
But some People seem not to care if they bomb children…

          • Dawn

:)) You can talk like that to the people who have find out about war in Syria yesterday jihady Ayman… Anyone who follows conflict longer knows very well, that according to your retarded propaganda Assad and Russia reportedly destroyed some 10 000 hospitals and markets.. You are using this stupid lies a little to often to be remotely believable :)

          • Legis Legis Juscius

Btter to behead cristians or other minorities ye?jihadis use civilians as human shields they place their artilerys in civilian areas

        • Concrete Mike

          Hah nice rebuttal

      • Gregory Casey

With they be the 70 Hospitals in Idlib that Sky News reported that Syrian and Russian Forces had bombed and destroyed? Where there is only ONE major Hospital in Idlib together with 4 smaller private Hospitals. Last I heard, the ONE major Hospital was operating normally. Treating the White Helmets in advance for their chemical poisoning!

      • RedBaron9495

lol sure they do…..seems to be a hospital on every street corner in Idlib Province, much like in East Aleppo & Douma. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/0a1cbd4d4b4b73a6535f82dc5ce3d054e7ca926441e5d215e53dfefc2e6de15a.jpg

No big deal.SAA got all the coperwiring, refregerators and doorframes already. The new formed 5th experimental washmashine brigade will counter-attack soon.

Its not true Southfront,Russian MOD just confirmed that attack on Saraqib was repelled:

    https://mobile.twitter.com/SkyNewsArabia_B/status/1232923198989176833

    • Kananda

      no, they took saaraqib :(

  • Lazy Gamer

Is this because of the effectiveness of shock troops or that of artillery? How are they doing it without and against air support? Or is the problem much worse, which is low morale and training of the Saa? Somehow, war tactics have now changed. It appears it is now better to mount attacks rather than to defend positions.

    • occupybacon

If you look at the Russian aerial strikes, they are a lot less precise comparing to US footages. They will blame SAA rag tag as usual.

      • Lone Ranger

        BS.

        • Kananda

          true

          • Lone Ranger

            My comment is, indeed.
            Thanks for the support.

          • occupybacon

Only lies need support in front of the truth

          • Lone Ranger

Time to put in your Tampax…

      • Lone Wolf

When u r dropping a 500 pound bomb on a target, does it really matter if its 5m or 10 m off ? End result is the same..
I noticed it too and accuracy used to be off by about 10 metres sometimes but still did the job.
The main reason for this is actually Russians are first expending munitions that are really old and from Soviet era … so now a days they are using more latest weapon munitions…

    • Lone Wolf

I think it is a combination of both. Turkish Artillery is incredibly accurate and this is due to the fact that they are using many big Drone on sky that can pinpoint SAA Troop positions and provide co-ordinates for the Turkish Artillery to fire at and adjust fire and check the damage done afterwards.
Its the Turkish Drone that is having a real negative impact on SAA.

Turkey and US are also providing real time intelligence on SAA for HTS on the SAA Frontline positions and their weakness so that HTS knows where to attack.

HTS are very good at fast attack… They literally drive their APC right to the enemy front and dismount quickly for attack and enter and clear buildings fast with rpg, grenades etc. and then mount up back to APC and move forward for another attack in another building in a very co-ordinated tactical manner… This is almost suicide because if the defence is prepared, then when all attacking APCs are approaching, defenders can pick them off with RPG or ATGMs.

According to some report all the experienced units from the Tiger Force got re-deployed to the Southern part of Idlib in that offensive.

By looking at the charts, most of the RuAf+SyAF bombings are concentrated on hte Soutern flank and not on Eastern flank … I think SAA is concentrating their effort on South Idlib now…

Russia also waiting to see what the outcome of talks with Erdogan will be like …

  • occupybacon

    1. Russian air to ground missiles are not precise enough;
    2. Russia refused to bomb Turkish artilery and convoys.

    Change my mind.

    • Lone Ranger

      They are pretty precise.
      Well, that could change…

    • Kananda

and? syrian forces should be anough alone, when the enemy does not have airforce!!!

      • Paul

Rubbish. Turkey has flooded Idlib with equipment and troops.

    • Paul

They’re not perfect but precise enough.
I agree. If Russia bombed Turkish artillery and convoys then SAA wouldn’t of lost any ground.

  • Kananda

SAA = shitty arab army :(

    they do not deserve freedom

    • Lone Ranger

Eat a dick wahabimossad faglet :)

    • Lone Ranger

      Looks more like a T72B3.
But it doesnt really matter, no tank can survive a direct airstrike.
Non the less I wonder if the crew was asleep…

      • Informbiro

The one in the background is T72B3…This one in the front is a T90.

        • Lone Ranger

The T90 doesnt have gaps in its reactive armor plating around the turret, the T72B3 does.
Not starting an argument, but this looks like a T-72B3 upgraded with Shtora-1 infra dazzlers.

          • Informbiro

            Could be maybe

        • Lone Wolf

That T90 was captured by Terrorist months ago. They were rehashing the same tank again as new captured ones. The Tank on the side has a big gash .. that how we know its the same tank from last month…

          • Informbiro

Ok,do you know how many T72B3 are upgraded with Shtora-1? Is it something Russians upgrade or is it domestic upgrade, meaning Syria has the knowhow now?

Someone is not telling the truth.
“Syrian troops repel all militant attacks on Saraqib” Dated 27 Feb2020.

    https://tass.com/world/1124285

    • Informbiro

I saw that too.Two hours ago Russian MOD said the attack on the city where repelled.

      • jm74

Southfront normally doesn’t post anything outlandish, they usually verify prior to posting. Tend to believe Tass which is the official Russian site that releases information.

        • Informbiro

My guess is that the battle is still ongoing even everyone here say its taken. Its Tass and Russian MOD,they wouldnt lie like that.

          • jm74

Difficult to ascertain what is happening especially with the West propaganda and their fake news outlets.

          • Kangaroo_Salesman

Russian MOD said soldiers in Crimea wasn’t Russian in the beginning too though lol

  • Daniel Miller

Sutch pathetic incompetance from the SAA but its expected from a arab army

  • John

Tactical brilliance on the part of the SSA and Co. The enormous gains made by the SAA and Co. at the price of suckering HTS and girlfriends into a cauldron are paying huge dividends. Once M4 has been cut …… and this will not be a long time coming, you will be able to hold your breath because it will only take that long from the looks of things ……….. Idlib city itself will become undefendable.

And yeah, hasn’t it been awful quiet up in the NE corner of Idlib? Yes fellas, wait until the little preparation is sprung from the box. The SAA and allies took a long time to put this together. Just because ‘nothing is going on’, doesn’t mean nothing is going on. This is how warfare rolls, especially in the hands of seasoned professionals.

    • Paul

      I hope your right.

      • John

Hey Paul. I think they have really rope a doped HTS and the occidentals this time. We will see.

    • Neurasth

I hope you are right, but the one thing they didnt plan for are MANPADS.

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

      Says who?

  • Rafik Chauhan

SAA will take all of M4 and will move towards jisrshugur. and thus turkey thugs terriost will round up fron east and west and south in saraqib. .Main thing what will Russia do when month will end and as turkey told they will start attacking SAA if they want withdraw . that is the main part. . either SAA and Russia will get chance to kill all of Turkey soldier if they attack SAA and Russia and fighter jets. Erdogon will do big mistake. playing with Turkish life.

  • GuyQ

All attacks by Turkish snakes where repelled

    https://www.rt.com/newsline/481799-syria-saraqib-idlib-military/

  • Joe Doe

This only show only view SAA unit capable fights and defence Syria. The rest are very weak units and this is a weak point SAA army. Let see after liberate the entire South of Idlib, SAA has sorten the front line and many SAA units and military hardware are free to be deploy to front line. Let see if SAA is capable to retake the M5 and push the militans and Turkey North.

  • Ma_Laoshi

“Local sources name the Syrian Army overcommitment to the avdance south
of the M4 highway among one of the results of the recent setbacks in
Saraqib.”– Confusing causes and “results” leads to a lot of problems in life.

So what’s up with the writing on SouthFront lately? It was never perfect, but now the spelling is terrible, and sentences are often illogical. And on top of that there is suddenly a snarky tone, beloved by the headline writers at Russia Insider. But over time, a neutral, professional manner will do your site many more favors than cheap laughs. Snarks should be the provenance of us commenters in the bleachers. Come to think of it, it all looks a lot as if some of the commenters were elevated to writers–only to confirm why the previous division of responsibilities worked better.

  • Dibass

Assad does not want to commit to a power-sharing deal with the Sunnis of Syria who happen to be a big majority. That is what’s bothering Turkey. I am sure there has been some behind the scenes serious negotiations between all concerned parties regarding a post-Assad Syria. Because there is no agreement yet, this war will continue.

Assad may have to ditch Iran if he wants peace to return to Syria. In my opinion, Iran is putting pressure on Assad not to agree to any deal that will lead to a free-and-fair election in Syria. Iran is a Shiite country with great animosity for Sunnis. Led by Qaseem Soleimani, Iran fought alongside the U.S against the Taliban in the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan. Iran has been fighting the Taliban long before the U.S invasion.

The war between Iran and Iraq was because Saddam was alarmed when he realized Iran was instigating a Shiite revolt similar to the Iranian revolution to overthrow him. Iran had been instigating a Shiite revolt against the Taliban before the U.S invasion. But unlike Saddam, the Taliban did not attempt to invade Iran. Iran nearly invaded Afghanistan in the late nineties, amassing thousands of troops along the Afghan/Iran border. Iran only refrained from that invasion because it was sure the Sunni world will come to the defense of Afghanistan.

Iran does not allow a Sunni mosque in Tehran despite the city having millions of Sunnis. Iran does not allow a Sunni in its parliament, but there is a jew. Iran never lends any meaningful support to Sunni forces fighting the U.S and/or Israel in the Middle East, but they find a way to reach any Shiite minority insurgent group regardless of how small. This talk about Iran helping the Taliban is all farce. They won’t do anything that will help the Taliban. In fact, they want a continuation of the Afghan war. They hate it when Trump starts talking of a peace talk with the Taliban.

You have only to read the history of Shiites, including the founder of Iran, to know what Iran is capable of doing given the chance. To understand and predict the behavior of a people, study its history.

Left to Assad, I think he will agree to a deal that guarantees the position of his people. Assad was never interested in power. It was because Assad’s elder brother who was slated to succeed his father died that Assad found himself in this position. His history and life pattern shows that he never was interested in power.

But Iran won’t let Assad strike a deal even if that deal will bring peace to Syria and unify the country once again. A free and democratic Syria will give rise to a Sunni president. and this is what Iran fears. With a Sunni president in Syria, the Iran-Hezbollah link will face some uncertainties.

I think Russia will also agree to a deal that will let them maintain their military base and other and other interests in Syria.

Syria is suffering today because of Iran. Iran has been using Syria to transfer arms to Hezbollah. Israel pushed America to sever this link. Hence, the war in Syria. Syria’s biggest mistake was allowing the Iranians to ship weapons through them to Hezbollah.

I had been a strong supporter of Iran in the past. But after studying their history and observing their actions carefully, I am afraid to say that I fully agree with Donald Trump on Iran. They deserve what he is doing to them.

Anyone can challenge these claims I have made here and I will reply them.

    • Adi

I cant belive i am reading this on this kind of forum…Lol

      • Dibass

Say what you think is true. But have facts to back it up.
It is obvious. All these meetings between Erdogan and Putin must have discussed what a future Syria should look like. Assad clearly cannot allow a free and fair election nationwide. He will lose. And then what becomes of his allies’ interest?
Russia made the wrong move on Syria. Now that Russia has fought and killed many Syrian rebels, it is unlikely a future Sunni president will allow any Russian military presence.
From all indication, this war just began. America is not about to back off. Israel will not rest until the Iran-Hezbollah link is severed. Turkey want to help the Sunnis of Syria. If Russia does not back off, it might soon find itself fighting NATO. Plans are being made for NATO to have a greater role in Syria. The U.S has deployed bombers and plenty of war machines in the Middle East.

Why has the U.S refused to leave Syria? For oil? I doubt. The U.S will get all the oil it needs from other countries like Iraq, Saudi Arabia etc. Why choose Syrian oil? Doesn’t make sense. What makes sense is that the U.S is gearing up for a showdown with Russia.

The SAA & Russians moved too far, too fast, too soon without ever ensuring their Defenses over the territories regained by them were in place. They now need to dig in and hold what they have gained while simultaneously mounting an overwhelming attack on Seraqib.

  • World_Eye

They lost the TOWN on M5 Highway OMG…So now is been infested only with Al-Qaeda throw some heavy bombs in it.

  • Wegan

Today the terrorists gained 5 square kilometer and the SAA about 150 Square km.
Overall the SAA improved its position
