A Turkish battle tank involved in the operation

On January 31, the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) reportedly captured the villages of Shankal and Bak Ubasi from Kurdish YPG/YPJ forces in the Syrian area of Afrin.

According to pro-Turkish sources, the YPG/YPJ suffered some casualties in the clashes there but no confirmed reports on the issue are available.

On January 30, the TAF and the FSA captured the villages of Qana, Khalil and Sati Ushaghi from Kurdish forces.

these are two villages right across the border from Turkey. the TAF and FSA seem to be making really slow progress. At this rate they will not be in Afrin till the end of the summer

    • Nosferatu

Yes. Some russian officers recently said that the TAF are seriously lacking combat experience and their effectiveness is very low.

      • Skagos

Yeah. After 30 years of battling guerillas in the mountains… wait what?

        • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Remember they locked up all their military in jail explains the lack of experience, Turkey might have a big army that’s it. Those who keep their core surpass others in the end, but Turkey ripped out it’s core. So the past is just the past and not a current reflection of the present.

Commandos weren’t locked up wtf? Mainly generals.

          • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Was also many hundreds of officers just more than generals , realize the commandos were never really that great as they suffered heavy casualties in Al bab.

          • Skagos

Commandos didn’t even participate in the liberation of Al-Bab, these were SOFs. You know what, this is just ridicilious. Have a nice night.

          • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They were held at the back after that debacle in Iraq the hood event etc. yup really good troops. The SOF and Commandos are like most and rotate those units within each other for the benefit of secrecy.

Excellent! Then they won’t be in a position to do jack shit about the SAA offensive in Idlib. Win-win for everyone.

Except Erdogan. But who cares about him anyway?
