The Turkish-backed National Syrian Army (NSA) shot down on October 16 a drone of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The drone was flying over its positions around the border town of Ras al-Ayn in northern al-Hasakah.
The downed drone appears to be a commercially-bought X-UAV mini-Talon. The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) used modified drones of this type in an attack on southern Turkey last year.
Beside downing the drone, NSA militants captured a Humvee armored vehicle from the SDF around Ras al-Ayn. The vehicle was likely supplied to the Kurdish group by the U.S.-led coalition.
A Grad 122 mm rocket launcher mounted on a truck was also captured by NSA militants near the town of Ain Isaa in northern Raqqa.
Earlier, the NSA backed by the Turkish military imposed control of thirteen villages west of Ras al-Ayn and the town of Tell Abyad in the framework of Operation Peace Spring.
