The Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) has uncovered a cell working for Kurdish forces in the town of Jarabulus in northern Aleppo, opposition sources reported on August 16.

The cell was reportedly apprehended by the SNA while attempting to move a large quantity of explosives in Jarabulus. The explosives were being prepared for an attack.

According to the sources, the cell, which was allegedly behind a number of recent bombings in Jarabulus, was working for the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). The YPG is the backbone of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, which controls most of northeast Syria.

A day earlier, a man was killed and six others were injured when a booby-trapped motorcycled exploded near a bakery in Jarabulus’ town center. The attack was the most recent in a series of similar bombings.

Kurdish forces are known for carrying out attacks in Turkish-occupied areas. Nevertheless, it’s still unclear if they were behind the recent bombing in Jarabulus, or linked to the town’s cell.
