Trump Justifies US Strikes Against Syrian Government Forces As 'Lawful Measures'

AP Photo/ Marko Drobnjakovic

US President Donald Trump has just justified US airstrikes on Syrian government forces as “lawful measures” to counter threats to US forces in the war-torn country.

The president wrote in a letter to the US Congress on December 11 that since the last periodic update report, the US Armed Forces participating in the anti ISIS campaign in Syria have undertaken “a limited number of strikes against Syrian government and pro-Syrian government forces.”

Trump added that the strikes “were lawful measures to counter immediate threats to the United States and partner forces engaged in that campaign.”

The US president just forgot to note that the US actions in Syria have never been authorized neither by the Syrian government nor by the UN. Furthermore, the Syrian government describes the US presence “illegal” and says that it’s “aggression.”

However, who cares when the democracy is in danger?

Now what does Assad says is more important. If he is quiet, then he deserves it as being silent means agreement.

As for Iran, the general had already said it.

But this is Syria not Iran

The way forward is to make sure US gas no forces on the ground to support which means the Kurds . Are the Kurds Syrians or Americans….ask them

Clear this, US will leave without firing ashot

    • Jerry Hamilton

Assad has invited America to leave many times. (Polite version)

The wealthy people rule on the nations is no good and should be stopped immediately because they are damaging national economy by corruption and do many historic blunders. These wealthy rich politicians are the main root cause of all problems in the world. All nations should have to kick them out from power and take back looted wealth from them. They have created a lot of problems for common man to survive in this world.

All nations should have to fix their constitutions that any ruler of the nation should not be allowed to keep wealth more than the allowed limit. Their assets must be tracked by the judiciary, military and private institutions. Please don’t allow your rulers and politicians to accumulate wealth by corruption into a heap or pile.

    • Murray Smith

Except politicians are just actors, prostitute puppets dancing to the tune of bankers and multinationals with their “lobbying” money and expensive jets to sell. Buying politicians is just an item on their expense account. Taking the power and wealth off that snake’s nest is a little harder.

      • Jens Holm

        Not “just”.

      • Rob

Anybody who is the part of politics in a country e.g. King, president, prime minister, minister, MPA etc and those who finance them should have to be accountable for their wealth that how he has made this heap of wealth. There should have to be a limit of wealth in a country constitution that an individual can keep.

They call SAA “Assad army”. Now lets call the US Army “Trump army”!

      • Jens Holm

You can say that. But Syria of today as well as Iraq and lebanon has several of them.

I do admit USA have several kind of forces and USA are supported by several allied according to Syria.

        • Joe

US has no force in Syria once the Kurds join Assad their only saviour.

If you think the Kurds are so Moronic to side US in Syria to fight against other Syrians, get your head examined.

That would be so suicide for their community if they lose the fight against Iran backed forces

I don’t think Kurds are that stupid to side the US in Syria

And this is happening as Russia starts to withdraw its forces.

Seemes like You just have realized that Putin has an own agenda and not under Your command.

Putin wants a good price for ASSAD’s head: Crimea recognized, Ukraine fifty-fifty.
Now the US-Air-Force bombs the Syrian troops, keeps Eastern Syria (OIL) occupied.. and Putin means the job is done.
Like ALEPPO: “Stop & GO” and asking like by Sothesby, who gives more? ISRAEL? USA?
ISRAEL want to intervene in Syria and Putin makes place: remember that Israeli-drones that killed Hezbollah-leaders near Damascus? Are the S-400 so bad, not to get that f#king drones? C’mon, Putin is very British: has no friends, no enemies, just INTERESTS.

How does one remove a country from the permanent security council position? Is it even possible?

    • Jens Holm

Hard to. They have a long list.

Another things is, if UN is worth anything. It was made to make stability after WW2. But thats long time ago.

So it could be reolaced by something else. the last one was Russia allowed Assads to use more gas. Who else can do things like that.

      • Enkidu

Assad didn’t use gas ever. Every chemical attack in Syria has been a false flag. As for the UNSC I asked because the world is getting fed up with the US, and removing them from the security council would be great.

TRUMP shows his IGNORANCE of the DIFFERENCE between LAWFUL and LEGAL

Under NATURAL (Common) Law, no Individual, Group of Individuals, Corporation Entities nor Governments ( “countries”) has or have a RIGHT to “INVADE” another individual or entity etc.

Under STATUTORY “law”, any statutes, which are erroneously called LAWS, can be passed making it “LEGAL” to invade,or, in effect, do anything to another.

What UNITED STATES Corporation is doing and has been doing since its very beginning is and ARE UNLAWFUL, PERIOD.

TRUMP is a CRIMINAL, albeit an IGNORANT Criminal, but he is not alone

He has the company of 200 + DUAL CITIZEN Zionist Ashkenazi in congress and all PREVIOUS “Presidents” since 1871 (at least) !!!

They ALL are and have been HIDING under CORPORATE STATUTES, by calling them, LAWS

    • dutchnational

Yeah, Russia and USSR too have a history, legal, lawful, illegal, unlawful and even immoral, full of invasions, up till 2013/4 : invading Ukraine and Crimea (oh, that is Ukraine too). They even sold whole states : like Alaska in the 1860ies to the US after first stealing it from the natives).

An extensive list can be compiled.

      • Freespirit

  • Nuno Cardoso da Silva

All US forces must be pushed back to the US if peace is to prevail in the world. What is Europe, Japan and South Korea waiting to expel all US armed forces from their territories?

    • Jens Holm

Europe hardly has 50.000 of them. They had about 300.000 until the russians collapsed themselves.

I see no need for USA to be pushed back. They might improve some here and there, but pushed back is no need.

  • Manuel Flores Escobar

Surely without Russian forces deployed there..US would have attacked Syrian army everyday until terrorist forces would have take control of Syria like they did in Syria!

    • Jens Holm

No, they would not. The last card was ISIS and those got out of hands, just as they did for Assad.

    • Joe

Russian planes are obligated to protect Syrian soldiers if attacked by US.

Maybe not by Israelis as evidenced in the past.

      • Joe

Otherwise why let them have the base?

        • Joe

The Russians have provided far more assistance than the small Israeli attacks occasionally.

Issue of base does not depend on this small issue where Russians have their own interests too

Damage is not that great too.
Finish the job first , then face the Israelis directly as when no more war , Israel would not dare to strike Syria again.

They dare now because they know Assad would not dare to retaliate.

Have you seen Israel attacking Lebanon? No , because massive retaliation would result.
Hitting Hez in Syria, they are safe.

  • nshah

I just can’t comprehend all this.. If you can’t get the us out.. just go after their interests in the area..! You have israhell, their base in Iraq, Afghanistan and almost everywhere..! Just blow the hell out of it..! Yes, there are risks to consider.. but why care as the consequences of future Syria and ME are much worst to comprehend.. Just blow the Devil there.. Then start a new ME fresh..! Why wait..? when the time is right..!

    • nshah

I just can’t figure out why are those countries are so afraid of America and Israhell..? You blow off israhell you’ll free the world & Amerika too..! or to make it easier.. just eliminate those scums.. who cares anyway.. as they had killed millions..!

  • dutchnational

I fully concur with the closing sentence of this argument.

There are several – even legal – reasons why a government army can be bombed by an external airforce. Examples are Nato airstrikes on Serbia under Milosevic, airstrikes om serbs in Bosnia, maybe even airstrikes by Russia on Georgian forces in 2008, maybe airstrikes by KSA on Yemen recently, Israeli strikes on Hezhbollah and Iranian forces near Israel etc.

So maybe SF should get off its sectarian high horse or condemn all cases.

    • alejoeisabel

You gave examples of airstrikes, but no legal reason. Only a UN Security Counsel resolution can authorize a military strike. The definition of aggression is when one military force crosses a national border and attacks. In the case of “…airstrikes by Russia on Georgian forces in 2008,”
      Taken from Wiki.
”Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili blamed for starting Russian war. An investigation into last year’s Russia-Georgia war delivered a damning indictment of President Mikheil Saakashvili today, accusing Tbilisi of launching an indiscriminate artillery barrage on the city of Tskhinvali that started the war.Sep 30, 2009”

    • Ace

Serbia was no threat to NATO or the US. Nor is R2P part of the UN charter.

  • Elisabeth Jenders

President Trump, could you please cite the laws you used to justify your actions?

    • Jens Holm

He is a wild card of the worst. Dont expect him to be a lucky one as well.

    • Graeme Rymill

Article 51 of the UN Charter:

“Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security…….”

      • Elisabeth Jenders

“… if an armed attack occurs …” – this would apply to Syrian army, but not, as a pre-emptive measure, to US military! The very presence of US and coalition is an attack as they came against Syria’s will!

        • Graeme Rymill

The US sees Article 51 applying as a result of these events:

The initial attack was by ISIS crossing from Syria into Iraq to attack the Iraqi government. Iraq seeks US help (therefore “collective self-defence”). The Syrian Government is unable to secure its borders and prevent ISIS from using Syria as a base to conduct its campaign in Iraq. The US argues that Article 51 justifies the US going into Syria to attack ISIS as part of its collective self defence agreement with Iraq.

          • Elisabeth Jenders

Thanks for clarifying this, Graeme !
However, given that they created ISIS, making it impossible for Syria to defend her borders, the US should have done everything to help Syria instead of calling to oust her president and attack her troops. Should, if the US had a moral compass. Instead, their politicians serve the masters of the financial and industrial cartels. War is a racket. They sold their soul to the devil.

          • Ace

No. That’s just Iraq exercising self defense against ISIS and the US joining in for some arbitrary, unrelated reason. If Madagascar joined in against ISIS it’s the same. No threat to Madagascar. Just Madagascar helping Iraq. Acting on a desire to help (or waging aggressive war on the target country) are not self defense.

All the more so when you focus on the fact that the US is an ally of the Saudis and Qataris who have funded and otherwise supported aggressive war on Syria on the part of ISIS. Those countries are US coalition partners so the US is joining in aggressive war against Syria and then can claim the right to defend Iraq against the enemy the US supports?

That’s a bit convoluted and unconvincing, don’t you think?

          • Graeme Rymill

If Iraq invited Madagascar to come and help Iraq defend itself and Madagascar agreed then this is acceptable under the UN Charter. You can form defensive alliances with whoever you want.

In June 2014 Iraq invited the United States to come to their assistance. The timing wasn’t just random or arbitrary. Between 5 and 11 June 2014 ISIS conquered the Iraqi cities of Samarra, Mosul [ the second largest city in Iraq] and Tikrit, and threatened the Mosul Dam and Kirkuk. By 12 June ISIS controlled parts of the small town of Udhaim, 90 km (60 miles) north of Baghdad. The pace of their advance and the poor performance of the Iraqi Army created real fears that Baghdad could fall. By late June, Iraq had lost control of its border with Jordan and Syria.

In August came the ISIS attack on Kobani in Syria. The Syrians were completely unable to protect the Kurds. The Kurds had shown a willingness to fight ISIS that was often lacking in the Iraqi Army. It made no military sense to limit the US anti-ISIS campaign just to Iraq and leave a huge ISIS sanctuary in eastern Syria untouched. The Syrian campaign was a continuation of the US efforts to assist Iraq with collective self defense.

What is really convoluted and unconvincing is your alternative scenario:

That, in mid 2014 up until today, the US was and is the secret puppeteer directing ISIS.

Why would the US permit ISIS to attack the Syrian Kurds and then defend the Kurds with airstrikes and later artillery? Why would the US support the Kurds for the next 3 years remorselessly driving ISIS back in eastern Syria? Why spend billions having your two alleged allies fight each other? Is this the way you fight an “aggressive war against Syria” as you claim????

That is what I would call convoluted!

      • Tudor Miron

Graeme, my favorite zio troll :) stop being so dumb to think that your arguments (even if you think they are very smart) could be taken seriously by sane people. Your level of self-awareness is below worm or snake. Fear is your driving force.

      • Ace

Against what threat must the US defend itself?

  • Mikronos

Syria needs to start shooting back. Dead Americans with the country wondering why, is something Trump can’t afford. “Lawful measures” fail at somebody coming home in a box.

A stupidity to bring things like that. Most things he says are kind of random. Well, it could make sense as well to keep that kind of stupity in the open.

  • gustavo

USA can call it whatever they want, that is not the problem. The problem would be that the whole World accept this definition and words. There is not justification for madness, point.

    • bcbingram

      ??

    • Ace

      What definition and words, Gustavo?

  • HopeForBetterTimes

Trump is just another f#cking b@stard that licks the boots of Bibi Netanyahu. Such a little Jew-York-maggot, narcissistic, egomaniac.. and completely sold to the Rothschild-Netanyahu-wing of the Zionists.
Two major criminal pYgs, people almost regret the Nobel-killer Obama ;).. (Not that Hillary would have been better. These two, Donald & Hillary are just separated by GENDER. And not even THAT is sure, by her taste for little girls]

The Syria war is pure regime change Hegelian theater. The US coalition includes all, or the vast majority, of the governments who created, armed, funded and provided political cover for the terrorist and other regime change forces in Syria. Including the SDF. It’s obvious that partition east of the river is regime change plan b. And statements from the president of Jewmerica about the lawfulness of attacking Syrian government coalition forces is an attempt to justify using military force to continue the illegal occupation of Syria, and supporting the creation of Kurdish Israelistan east of the river.

The S-400s going into Turkey are probably part of the preparations for setting up a no fly zone in Syria and neighboring countries to start closing regional airspace to the Jew menace. Israel and Jewmerica in particular. I’m sure that the Lebanese are considering participating, and the Egyptians have just reached an agreement with the Russians on allowing the Russian air force access to Egptian airspace and bases.

83% of the planet’s Jews live in the US and Israel, and another 12% live in France, Canada and the UK. That’s 95% living in just 5 countries. 3 of which are NATO UNSC P3 members. The Jews are a parasitical disease that takes over control positions in the host nations to gain control of the government and society to feed off of it to the detriment of of the host. Judaism should be outlawed and Israel’s UN membership revoked to create a Jew free planet that will be better for humanity.

President is wrong, but to admit otherwise would open him to liability for a missile attack on a Syrian base, as well as damages caused by US forces that are illegally in Syria. The President is on very bad legal footing. If the democrats were smart, they would go after Trump for waging an illegal war in Syria, but they are leftist cucks who only want to argue about racism, sexism, inappropriate workplace flirting and other nonsense.

The US strikes on German forces in the First World War were equally illegal.
The US has no business whatsoever interfering with the internal affairs of other continents.
The US should only deal with things in the North Half of the Americas, only.
Because the world let the US get away with murder in the First World War, gave the US the green light that the world must be okay when them getting involved everywhere.

Wasn’t this the same Donald Trump who promised to remain neutral in syria
    during his campaign?
Ever since Trump decided to play the “Seal Of Zion” Card, he has shown his true colors and his supporters are still in denial in the thinking that trump will make america great again.

    • Rob

Trump is a wealthy person and wealthy person could never be trust worthy. Wealthy person always do deception, fraud, and corruption. All world nations should have to protect themselves from Trump.

    • bcbingram

Not all of us are in denial.

    • Jens Holm

Well dont trust Trump and expect almost anything of all kinds.

  • EL ZORRO

“Trump added that the strikes “were lawful measures to counter immediate threats to the United States and partner forces engaged in that campaign.”…TRANSLATION…Trump added that the strikes were to PROTECTER THEIR INTERNATIONAL MERCENARY TERRORIST, that the UNITED STATES/ISRAEL INFILTRATED IN SYRIA.

  • Leon De Elias

Exceptional terrorism..I invade to your garden and I’ll beat the owner up whenever I feel threatened..So this is already fascism..America is FASCIST to the core in 2017..Funny thing is that the US is run by Zionist Jews..

  • Carol Davidek-Waller

Ignorance of the law is no excuse, Donald. Joining the ranks of America’s war criminals is a bad choice. Defending terrorists is an even worse one.

  • bcbingram

NOT if you are fooled by a ‘false flag ‘ event. Shit can the advisors who could not tell the Syrian gas attack was done by ‘rebels’.

Ever see a bullet get stropped by a piece of paper, obr a religion that says kill others but not them, what about a woman or child’s plea for mercy?
Who and the heck believes man made laws are and will forever not be broken, or has for that matter broken one of their own GOD LAWS.
Laws are like principles, they are not worth a damn thing unless you are personally prepared to stand forth for them, come what may be the condequences.

Empires never settle for anything less than total domination and ownership of the world’s natural, financial and human resources. JFK was settling for peaceful coexistence, so had to go.
