Top IRGC Commander Confirms Iranian Missile Strike Was Aimed At "Military Machine", Not Troops

A screenshot from the video

The January 8 strike on US military bases in Iraq was “the starting point of a great operation” against the United States across the region, Brigadier General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, Commander of the Aerospace Division of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said during a press conference on January 9.

The codename of the military effort is “Operation Martyr Soleimani”.

The strikes were not meant to cause fatalities. We intended to deliver a blow to the enemy’s military machine,” Brigadier General Hajizadeh said.

The commander of IRGC’s Aerospace Division stated that the IRGC fired 13 missiles at the US bases in IRaq, but had actually prepared several hundred for launch.

According to them, if there was the goal to cause casualties, Iran would target the facilities used to accommodate the US forces or their deployment centers.

“We were able to plan the operation in a way to kill 500 [US forces] in the first stage and if they responded [to our strike], they would have lost 4,000-5,000 [troops] in the second and third stages.”

The IRGC top officer said that US forces completely failed to deliver any response to the strike, although they were on full alert and 12 unmanned aircraft in addition to a number of piloted ones were on surveillance mission above the Ain al-Assad base targeted by the IRGC strike.

Not sure this is really a first, but it shows the very high moral standing of the Iranians.
It also shows, their emphasis that the American is not their enemy, but the US war machine.

      • Issam

        Look at flags behind him!

        • Lonesome Cowboy Burt

Can you please clarify the significance of whichever flag you are speaking to?

          • Issam

            Left to right:
            1 Iran
            2 IRGC
            3 IranAirforce(not sure)
            4 Hizbollah (Lebanon)
            5 ansarAllah/Houthis, PMF(Yemen)
            6 Hashd al Sha’abi/PMF (Iraq)
            7 Hamas (Palestine)
            8 Fatemiyoun (Afghanistan)
            9 Zainabiyoun (Pakistan)

          • Lonesome Cowboy Burt

            Thank you, sir!

  • I’m all for peace and it’s a beautiful things thstvwsr didn’t broke out but I don’t understand destroying equipments it’s a revenge strike for human life that is lost. In second thoughts they do proves they could do a lot of damage to the US military and they allies in the region.

    • Wayne Nicholson

Read what the iranians said. This was a demonstration …. revenge is yet to come.

      • Jake321

You mean like the revenge on the Ukrainian civilian airliner killing mostly Iranian students. It is said revenge can be blind. The Islamist Iranians sure just proved that point.

        • Wayne Nicholson

How on earth would iran benefit from shooting down a civilian airliner? It’s the last thing they would want right now ….. it’s obvious who benefits from this.

They really should have waited at least 24 hours …. better to put a week or two between the attack but I guess someone is desperate to change the narrative. I’m just amazed they got some idiots are running with this … but sadly not surprised. Trump really knows his base.

        • Kell McBanned

Israel created this situation so Israel is to blame for the deaths – jumpy missile crew id say.

          • Jake321

LOL…every thing is Israel’s fault. You are obsessively bonkers. Have to be careful who high tech stuff is given to. The Syrians shot down that Russian spy plane not long ago. Oh, and that was Israel’s fault as well.

          • John Wallace

Yes you are at last right for once. It was Israels fault hiding behind the Russian plane causing it to be accidentally shot down. That is why BooBoo was told to come to Moscow to be told off..

        • Wayne Nicholson

          I get it now …. you’re like 13 -14 years old aren’t you?

I’m gonna post a few, clean, age appropriate replies all at once and you can pick one any time your feel the urge to post here.

The village called. They’d like their idiot back. You better get going.
If I threw a stick, you’d leave, right?
Your ass must be pretty jealous of all the shit that comes out of your mouth.
Some day you’ll go far—and I really hope you stay there.
Jesus might love you, but everyone else definitely thinks you’re an idiot.

That ought to keep you busy until your mom gets off her knees and cooks you some pizza pops.

  • bob

Looks like they blow up a few tents!

    • And do you think that was random luck, that if you fire 12 missiles 200 miles, that Iraq is so densely populated that half of them are bound to hit structures?

      • Jake321

Three empty hangers were hit and a hole was made in a taxiway. All the rest disturbed some dirt. About as effective as the Hamas missiles, maybe? But they do have a great anti aircraft missile. It easily shot down a Ukrainian civilian airliner killing all about 180 on board, mostly Iranian students. That will show the US and Israel how big and bad Islamist Iran can be.

        • opereta

The Passengers where mostly Ukrainians…..Iranian Students do not go to Nazi Ukraine.

          • Kananda

            Another dreamer. :D

Check the passanger list I put above.

          • Jake321

Wrong on both counts. But that’s par for the course for you.

        • Kell McBanned

Dont worry it wont be long before israel finds out how accurate they are :D

          • Jake321

And if they are better than Hamas, Islamist Iran will find out how extra accurate Israel’s missiles are. And way more powerful, up to and including the thermonuclear kind.

          • igybundy

Ah thats why Syria sent those Israeli missiles to Iran.. Was wondering why Syria did not sell it to China.. China pays top $$$ for intact missiles and warheads.. So now Iran already has all the latest juice induced dementia to look at first hand on top of all the US ones..

          • goingbrokes

Correct, except for one thing – israel sells military tech directly to China, usually re-hashed and relabelled US tech making lots of money in the process. It’s badly kept secret.

        • Aquilegia

From pictures it looked like somethings was going on inside the turbine blades. It’s possible to place a small bomb inside the engine cowling as well, and this being an UKRAINIAN plane… why do all the events always revolve around the miserable Ukraine? They are sacrificial pawns for greater US interests.

        • Paul

          Keep telling yourself that dickhead.

        • igybundy

hamas was not trying to kill anyone other wise they would be firing them into peoples windows because those illegal settler buildings are right across the street.

        • chris chuba

Major deflection, the point is that they were able to do precision targeting, p-r-e-c-i-s-i-s-o-n. I don’t care if they only hit a mailbox. It was a demo.

      • bob

….and miss a bunch of very expensive helicopters, all parked in a neat line?

    • Paul

They successfully attacked a US base with accuracy, and made Trump backdown. Let that geopolitical fact sink in to your thick skull dickhead.

      • goingbrokes

That’s far too high an expectation! :)

      • bob

Yup and they left a whole bunch of US helicopters right near the ” expensive ” tents they blow up,what a joke!

    • igybundy

each of those tents cost hundreds of millions… at first I thought it was in rubes but then found out the US changed everything into US$’s..

  • Azriel Herskowitz

He managed to destroy some tents. No US casualties. And the best news, the US isn’t leaving Iraq. Sorry Iran. :-]

    • LR captain

this was message not full strike moron would you have full scale war, would have willing to grab rifle and go fight Iran cause just US airstrikes missile strikes won’t cutt it this

      • Jake321

It would cut it more than enough to destroy Iran as a functioning modern country.

        • LR captain

(read whole thing or don’t bother replying)

Yemen and Afghanistan, Vietnam that had 30 years to prepare asymmetrical and guerrilla war fare. honestly how are you forgetting those examples, Not mention in 2002 the Pentagon already ran a colossal war game designed to simulate a war with Iran – and the US lost heavily.

you can’t just forget those factors try to win an argument

another 2 out of 22 missiles that Iran fired missed their targets in symbolic trike
while in 24 out 54 missiles from us missed their targets.

no inceptions of Iranian missiles where reported during this attack
The houthis are now also starting intercept Saudi planes.
While the SAA is intercepting around 65% of missiles fired at them (and they are using outdated equipment.)
          ( 72 out 112 )

so lets take 1,000 missiles ok
          (24 out 54 missed ) = accuracy 65% / 650 missiles would hit
of those 650 likely 422 would be shot down that leaves 228 missile trikes spread across the country.

now lets look at damage 1 = light / 3 = heavy / 5= guaranteed now lets divide by how many make it through.

          228 strikes of light damage
          76 strikes of heavy damage
45 targets that are guaranteed destroyed.

south front did a report explaining how many targets the US want to destroy in syria if US planed to invade (around 200) that number would surely be higher now and iran would 5-7 times as many sites.

          215 x 5 = 1,075 sties for iran.

in South report the US would used two fleets to launch 2000 missiles at syria.
so 1,075 x 5 + those that missed and that those that got intercepted and we arrive at 12,721 missile needed to be Launched at iran.

so divide that 2,000 from the two fleet and we get 7 wages of missiles. Would be need if the USA were to brute force it.

this only theoretical based on percentages of missiles that missed or were intercepted. But this type discussion would be talked about at the war table.

          • Jake321

Who said anything about the US invading Syria? Oh, and that old war game was for a ground invasion with a relatively small number of US troops. If push comes to shove, the US this time will be out to destroy Islamist Iran, not invade and occupy it. Try to keep up.

          • LR captain

you made of me when i said the US would need to 210,000 to topple of Iranian regime here you are back tracking again trying to rail road the whole conversation

you want iranain regime topped fire put 210,000 boots on the ground and that will happen.

You want to curb iran’s power projection, economic and infrastructure project you throw 12,000 missiles at it.

            now make up your mind

          • igybundy

US can get around 3000… where did you get 12000??? prompt strike is still in the minds of idiots with dementia and would cost trillions.. And as we already saw in Syria, 2000 of those missiles would be intercepted.. 75% of those left would hit dirt so the damage would be from 250 or so.. Then 10,000 Iranian missiles would fly to 104 US targets and then from much closer another 10,000 would fly in to the egg and crack it wide open and fry it like bad khamoosh..

          • LR captain

no jake was being stupid and saying the US could knock out iran with missiles only so i did the math with 65% missed rate and 65% interception rates

          • igybundy

the juice will crack open like an old par boiled egg and then flow into the ocean..will you take your cup to hold it all back before the ocean washes it away?

    • opereta

In a month or two…..you can brag about the US no leaving….that is if they like to be mortared nightly. Some shithead I knew in Nam said the same thing about not leaving in 1970.

    • Kell McBanned

Lol when the US leaves you can grab your rifle and go die there – good luck :D

    • John Wallace

Good to see you come Azriel but it would be much better to see you go. Idiot. It was a message nothing more. Trump got it loud and clear. Gave him a face saving chance to back down and say Iran backed down. What happened to ” you attack one American and I will bomb you into the stone age suddenly became Oh I am sorry lets call it quits. You go back and watch his speech yesterday. Not the loud brash bombastic clown but the thankful Iran didn’t force him to surrender or use nuclear bombs. Time to quietly wind down troops so no one notices. Even Netanbooboo shat his pants and shut his bullshitting mouth..

    • Paul

Iran’s attack only proves how weak the US has become in the Middle East. Keep on bullshitting to yourself dickhead.

    • chris chuba

I see that ‘tents’ is the talking point for Hasbra. It demonstrated precision targeting over hundreds of miles. These aren’t the inaccurate scud missiles that Saddam used in 2003.

  • Vas

Look if Iranians really wanted to cause US cassaulties, they wouldn’t have warn an hour or more the Iraqi’s about the imminent attack, also they would have use much larger number of missiles with heavier payloads.
The point of this attack was a) To satisfy their people that their country took revenge for the life of the General, b) to show to the world and especially to US that they are not afraid a military action, even if it leads to war(which nobody wants, neither US or Iran), c) to push the Americans out of the middle east by making them feel unsafe everywhere they go in this region, d) and do demonstrate that they have weapons capable to overcome and saturate any defence and to reach any US target in the middle east and even beyond if you count that they possess missiles with more than 2.000km range.

Also from the photo’s I see the hits were very accurate, its impressive for a ballistic missile, which generally don’t have the accuracy of cruise missiles, till now I thought that only the russian Iskander was capable for such accuracy(7m CEP).
It seems the Iranian missile tech has improved dramatically, probably this missiles that used in the attack were using sattelite navigation, I don’t think it was GPS because US would have messed up the signal on purpose in this region but probably Glonass or BeiDou or a hybrid of both.

    • swedish_viking

There has also been speculations that the missiles (Fateh-110 Qiam-1) where equipped with smaller warheads.

      • Ashok Varma

This whole sordid episode is losing any relevance as the mullahs are being propped up by the US and the murder of general Soleimani suits both as it removed a popular possible future leader from the scene and also shut down the anti-regime protests. Iranian theocracy was put in power by the west and they want to protect it.

        • MH370

you sound just like many south east asian pro ISIS/Jabhat Al Nusrat wahabist ostard (missionaries) hahaha

      • Vas

I said basically the same if you read but yeah thats very possible judging by the relative small craters when this missiles are known that can carry big warheads.

    • Aquilegia

In case of a “next time”, there will be no more warnings. Also the CENTCOM HQ in al-Udeid, Qatar would be the first to go.

      • Ashok Varma

This was all for cosmetic domestic consumption and a fake attack. Both US and the theocracy work hand in hand. No one is fooled. Only shame is that an honest nationalist like General Soleimani was sacrificed to protect the regime.

        • Jake321

Even an honest nationalist can be a mass murderer. It was a good and justified hit.

          • igybundy

yea too bad haifa was spared.. not next time though.. the juice will flow..

          • Vas

haha The US is talking about mass murdering, tell me bob, how many millions have you killed in the last 20 years alone, I don’t even want to mention all your campaigns after WW2.

  • LaRata

Were is the Patriot PAC – 3 ??? No Iranian missile were shot down… all hit their target. The US not respond … why ???… were is the 6 x US B-52 at diego Garcia ??? were is the F-22 ?? were is the F-35 ???

    • Jake321

Allowing thousands of Iranians to live to see another day. No reason to use expensive missiles to shoot down incoming missiles calculated to do little damage. Both sides blinked to avoid an all out war and thus there to be a functioning country of Iran for now.

      • igybundy

the shit still flows from the juice into palestine.. wait until the wind changes.. then the stink will be half up the juice without a puddle..

      • Vas

hahaha murican immigrant bob, that is a the most lame excuse ever.

No one can predict how much damage some enemy missiles would do, you never take that risk of letting them hit because “you believe” they won’t do much dmg lol.
American air defences are a joke, they failed multiply times, from the Gulf war to stop Iraqi obsolete Scuds(90% to 100% failure), to Saudi Arabia against Houthi’s relative primitive ballistic missiles, to Saudi Arabia again in the ARAMCO incident, and also I remember a US Patriot even shot down a UK tornado and their own F-16 in operations in the past.
So no chance to stop this missile attack either even if they tried to.

      • John

Allowing thousands of american service members to live another day, as well as thousands if IDF troops, quite generous indeed. I agree.

    • opereta

The Patriot PAC-3 is Science Fiction and the B-52, F35 and F22 can be shot down : WAKE UP !! The US lost in Iraq and Syria….is loosing in Afghanistan.

    • Aquilegia

The PAC systems weren’t turned on, as a US general once said: if they miss their target, it would be a reputation loss.

    • Romeo Pesiao

The situation falls to the generals game brother..

  • Assad must stay

so why is fars news saying 80 killed, 200 wounded? and then they say they didnt want to kill anybody, its weird, i was expecting a much bigger and harder response

    • Kananda

Listen to the more experienced guys. You are blinded with your hate. :(
      Do not eat any propaganda.

    • Jake321

Because they expect fools like you to believe whatever they say. Kind of like Trump with his moronic base.

      • goingbrokes

What’s the rate for paid comments these days?

  • משה גודמן (Moshe 75)

BREAKING NEWS: unconfirmed reports that the assassination of Soleimani was a joint US/Iranian plot to get rid of him, since the Mullah’s are afraid he was planning on toppling the Iranian government and seeking to gain lots of power. Rouhani apparently agreed with this plan and the retaliatory strike on the US base was also a planned, coordinated Iranian/US plot to save face for the Iranian people and hardcore nationalists. That’s why only tent hangars were destroyed, and not military hardware or bunkers housing US troops!

Rouhani apparently working with Trump hand in hand to get rid of Soleimani, and is planning on recognizing Israel and opening up full diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv and Riyadh! Peace may be at last! Rouhani and Ayatollah also planning on retracting statements of the destruction of Israel.

This will enable the lifting of ALL sanctions, and USA, Israel, Iran, and Saudi Arabia can become allies and trading partners!

  • igybundy

I just want to know what the money was used for.. They have air bases in pakistan which cost like $20 million and not $2000 million that has better facilities.

  • MH370

so how the f is news of 80 US marines dead came from?

did anyone flashback how this is similar to Trump face saving ratliation of Syrian Chemical weapon few years ago?

  • Romeo Pesiao

Hehehe.. IRGC, Be ashamed to Soleimani’s daughter of the promises given to her, that the US will start experiencing dark days in the soonest time… What a nonsense explanation…

    • John

This wasn’t the response. The response was laid out in other places, announcements. This is like one M&M, in a 5 lb. bag of them. hunt around a bit, it will become clear. They already killed and wounded a bunch on this strike, what more do you want?

  • Romeo Pesiao

“Ok the explanation justified.” But what about a passenger plane that was hit for firing the missiles indiscriminately.

    • World_Eye

Missiles were fired at the night in sense of 5 min all of them more or less. What any of the missiles fired had to to with the crashed jet hrs after that. Don’t forget that the biggest casualties in the jet crashed are Iranians, lol, Iran would not shot down their people. It is some error or pilot mistake, 2 black box are found by the Iranians and are been look into it, but I believe that the Ukors, requested access to look into the boxes but Iranians denied access at early stage.

  • World_Eye

DO you know why there was no casualties, they got an early warning message from radar, and all of them hide in close by bunkers, that area has extensive network of tunnels beneath for protection. But if there was no warning or smt like that, well then we would have seen too many casualties.

  • Bobby Twoshoes

Regarding my previous comment expressing my disappointment: If you think the Iranians have made a mistake then it’s probably you who is in error. I think I get it now.

The Iranian state has achieved multiple things:
    1) They had the balls to do something and the smarts to avoid escalation in doing so.
    2) They demonstrated the effectiveness of their ally’s EW to any potential customers.
    3) They demonstrated to US vassals that Patriots buyers would be better served by cardboard boxes.
    4) They demonstrated that even under the most belligerent and lawless attacks they remain respectful of international law, even erring on the safe side.
    5) Even though the JCPOA is dead imho the comments regarding a part 2 are symbolic and speak further to the previous point.

As regards the external militias however; now that the Israelis (let’s call a spade a spade) have murdered the Iranian liaison the Iranian state can not be expected to make them show restraint as once they did. The real revenge is to come and the Iranian state is off the hook for it. I may be slow but I get there in the end.

  • John

the article is good but, doesn’t cover enough of what the Iranians said happened. Apparently, according them, there are quite a few dead and wounded US service members.

    • Aphrodisia

Exactly, the Iranians actually said that although they werent targeting american troops “tens of US troops actually died and were wounded and were airlifted out in 9 C-130 flights to israel and Jordan”, THAT was what the Iranian IRGC actually said. There seems to be some huge conspiracy underway to cover up american casualties resulting from the attack.

      • John

        Hello Aphrodisia.

They have done it before. My unit was on backup for the Grenada invasion. We heard not long after the battle, that an entire Seal Team had been lost coming out of a submarine and drowning during rough seas. It was never talked about at all, in any US media, until maybe the last 5 years or so ago. It was like 30 or 35 years of keeping that one under wraps.

I have heard reliable people talking about their experiences with US units being wiped out, including company and battalion size, since WWII and not a word of it leaking out. Two of the incidents were equipment related ( an AT battalion in Europe during WWII whose weapons the German armored unit who wiped them out referred to as being under small arms fire …. and the other was a company of US Marines who were one of the first units to receive the M-16s …… and that was not the only combat occurrence of serious problems with the weapon ). This is normal US military procedure.
