On September 19, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) repelled a huge attack of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) on Ma’an in northern Hama. A fighting was also reported in Tulaysiyah, Tel Al-Aswad, Al-Qahira, Al-Zughbi and Al-Raya. In total, about 40 militants were killed. On September 20, the fighting continued in Tulaysiyah and Alqhirah.

Pro-Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) media blamed Russian attack helicopters and warplanes as well as a lack of support from the moderate opposition for the failure. Government sources describe the HTS advance as an attempt to assist anti-government forces in Deir Ezzor province.

On September 19, the SAA entered Khusham village north of Deir Ezzor city. On September 20, the SAA continued clashing with ISIS aiming to secure this important settlement. When this is done, government forces will be able to expand  its control in the both eastern and western directions.

The ISIS-linked news agency Amaq has claimed killing of 3 Russian soldiers near Khusham. Amaq released graphic photos aiming to confirm the claims. However, photos allow to suggest that the killed fighters were likely private military contractors (PMCs) supporting the SAA advance. According to local sources, Russia-linked PMCs are actively participating in the operation in Deir Ezzor province.

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have continued attempts to reach the Euphrates from the northern direction advancing on ISIS units in Husaniyah, Jiyan, Maishiyah, according to pro-Kurdish sources. Clashes are ongoing near the settlements.

On September 19, a press office of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units [a core of the SDF] released a video with a SDF commander north of Deir Ezzor. The commander blamed Russia and Syria for alleged airstrikes on the SDF and vowed to fight Russians and Syrians if it was needed.

Meanwhile, the SDF has moved a large number of US-supplied military equipment to Deir Ezzor frontlines.  Photos of at least one military column have appeared online.

Syrian analysts say the US-led coalition and the SDF will attempt to prevent the SAA advance on the eastern bank of the Euphrates.

At the same day, spokesperson for the Russian Defense Ministry, Major-General Igor Konashenkov, said government forces have faced fierce ISIS counter-attacks from an area controlled by the US Special Operations Forces and the SDF.

“According to Syrian commanders’ reports from the front line, the Syrian Army encounters the most severe counterattacks and fire from the northern direction. That is, where SDF forces and US special operations units are located, who are allegedly administering medical aid to these militants instead of liberating Raqqa. You don’t have to possess profound military knowledge to see consistency in all these ‘coincidences’,” Konashenkov said.

Konashenkov added that water discharges from the Euphrates dams controlled by the US-backed forces hamper the government advance north of Deir Ezzor.

According to pro terrorist sources , HTS and co have withdrew from all the points they captured and re planning new offensive

    • Tudor Miron

Why don’t you tell why they withdrew? Because they we were met with fire. Their problem is that they have no choice – their CIA/Mossad commanders told them that there will be no more funding unless they attack relentlessly to hamper SAA advance in Deir Azzur area.

    • Deo Cass

Maybe in two years time…they have had such a devastating blow that it’s very unlikely that it will be anytime soon.

    • Deo Cass

This is bluff to keep a large Syrian force locked there. The Syrian and Russian forces have control of the air there. They wil not dare another offensive after this devastating blow. The bulk of the Tiger forces need to be redeployed urgently to the Eastern banks of Deir Ezzur to recover the oil and gas fields. That’s where the life line of Syria and the Syrian people and economy is.

It is clear that the Americans are terrorists.

The US military is and always has been very pro-ISIS. The USA is a Jew country.

I can not wait to get the oppertunity to leave the United States and go back to my family’s home country or nearby. The active supporting of terrorist elements sickens me.

“Konashenkov added that water discharges from the Euphrates dams
controlled by the US-backed forces hamper the government advance north
    of Deir Ezzor.”

To be expected. The rapid advance to Tabqa was done with a dramatic heliborne ops to control the other side because they foresaw that the Euphrates would come into use to salvage their failed ‘Assad must go’ project.

Frankly there will come a time when this will come to a head and SDF will be given a choice – fuck off or die. Annihilating SDF may come down to friendly proxies that can safely take the blame without triggering a dangerous escalation in the conflict, like Hezbollah.

Obviously Russia will not risk direct contact with the US and risk global war, but the time will come when they have to pull out some of the cards they have been saving in their deck with difficulty to avoid upsetting long-held plans, or in the less desirable scenario where SDF gets hold of those oil fields, will have to make some hard decisions about letting part of Syria go to the US Axis members to be taken back later when the Petrodollar gets dissolved and the former US Axis members are running around like headless roaches.

Like China. All the restraint we have been seeing from the Eurasian Alliance is all about preserving long-held plans that took decades of effort and would be demolished by a single rash act.

Its clear US can’t seem to get the hint that no one believes its bullshit of spreading democracy except for tools like the Kurds and the SDF who did deals for some short term gain that will quickly evaporate as the US is known for only tearing up agreements it has made.

  • Deo Cass

The US colonialist invaders should not have it their way. We know too well how trump is gullable for oil and gas. His phrase:”We should take Iraq’s oil” is note of nention. So effort must be redoubled to get the job done. Syria’s natural resources belong to the Syrian people and its elected government, not to the US multinational companies of their Kurdish thieves. There are other ways to cross the Euphrates river if need be. By air. So the effort must be redoubledm the air bombing sorties multiplied for one vital objective; the return of 80% of Syria’s oil and gas fields to the Syrian people and Syria, not its theft and looting by the US and its Kurdish slaves.

Remeber that this war has become a Russia vs USA-Israel war. USA-Israel move their troops (kurds, ISIS,Daesh, Nustra) all over Syria to create problems, and right now their main goal is steal oil fields of Omar. USA-Israel need this badly for them be able to support the economy of their new country Kurdistan. However, they do not have idea how strongly Russia can answer to their attack. We all hope that Russia aerospace force continue protecting and supporting strongly to Syria-Iran-Hezbolah-Iran ground forces. Maybe many more kalibr missiles will be needed to stop USA troops (kurds).

    • 888mladen .

Kalibr missiles are the onse US forces dread the most.

Just MORE EVIDENCE of the U.S. PROXY war ( if not DIRECT WAR) with Russia and Syria

U.S. has been at one WAR or another for 223 years of its, slightly over 300 year existence, so what is new?

For WORLD PEACE, the destruction of Washington is necessary, starting with its master, TEL AVIV

  • Interesting.
Thank you so much for this, simply the best reporting that is available to I.

    Ma’an in northern Hama:
What (international) faction has made the most noise about this region of the conflict?
