The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has reportedly rewarded the Tiger Forces by granting them a new title: the 25Th Special Forces Division.
“The General Command of the Military and Armed Forces has granted the campaign of my commander, the Tiger, the following title: the 25Th Special Forces Division, congrats for you and for us Sir Brigadier General,” Maan Fahid, a reporter for the SAA, said on Facebook on August 29.
Commanded by Brigadier General Suheil al-Hassan, nicknamed the Tiger, the Tiger Forces have around 4,000 well-equipped troops specialized in urban warfare.
In the last two years, the Tiger Forces participated in all major battles in Damascus’ Eastern Ghouta, Eastern Qalamun and in the country’s southern region.
The Tiger Forces were also responsible for most of the recent army advance in northern Hama and southern Idlib, which likely motivated the SAA’s Higher Command to grant them the new title.
