Syrian, Israeli Intelligence Officials Held Meeting At Hmeimim Air Base – Report

Syrian and Israeli intelligence officials have held a secret meeting, the UAE-based al-Arabiya al-Hadath reported on January 14.

The secret meeting, which was supposedly arranged by Russia, was held at Hmeimim Air Base in the costal Syrian governorate of Lattakia. The base is the headquarters of Russian troops in Syria.

Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath didn’t provide details on when the alleged meeting took place, who attended or what was the main purpose of it.

According to the news channel, this was the second secret meeting between Syrian and Israeli intelligence officials. The first meeting was held a while ago in Cyprus and was also arranged by Russia.

The report is highly questionable as it came amid high tensions between Syria and Israel. Earlier this week, a series of Israeli strikes hit military positions in the eastern Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor. Dozens of Syrian and Iranian-backed fighters were allegedly killed. A senior Syrian intelligence officer was also injured.

In 2019, Israel recovered the remains of Zachary Baumel, a U.S.-born Israeli soldier missing since a 1982 tank battle against the Syrian Arab Army. Russia facilitated the recovery efforts. Several Syrian prisoners were released from Israeli jails in return.

While al-Arabiya’s report may be a mere propaganda stunt, it is possible that Russia is arranging Syrian-Israeli talks on specific matters like the prisoners, missing personnel issue.

Syria engaged in peace talks with Israel on a number of occasions before. The last round of talks, which was held in Turkey in 2008, saw some progress. However, it eventually collapsed.

UAE-based, stopped reading after this

there is simply a lack of reason and logic behind it

farbat

even on the part of russia there is no logic behind it because russia made its position clear many times

Kenny Jones ™

Even if assad did such a move, his fate would be the same as gaddafi’s, by his own people, peace with israel is an absolute red line

<>

That is why you will always lose, unless you recognize Israel like Jordan and Egypt did, you will never have peaceful lives. Who has better lives? Lebanese or Jordanians for example?

Kenny Jones ™

I can assure you the latter don’t have a better life quality, in Lebanon the people are happy and filled with pride, Jordan is a dirty monarchy with poverty among the people

The Objective

You suddenly hate MBZ? I thought he was your pal against Erdogan.
Any bad news for Iran must be from unreliable sources. But good news about Iran will be accepted even from an anonymous poster.
Belief me if Iran doesn’t end this destabilizing policy, the world opinion will so much be against Iran that people might not condemn a nuclear attack on you guys.

daniel

Is he iranian?

Leif Oskar Zetterstrøm

Do not have to be Iranians or Arabs to oppose the destabilization and unrest caused by European Zionists in the Middle East. Free self-thinking people in the West see the madness going on. Not without reason that Israel is the world’s most hated country, long before the United States.

Kenny Jones ™

Russia and China will always and unconditionally be on Iran’s side and that’s enough in case of a nuclear option

The Objective

Keep dreaming.
They’re currently trying to eject you from Syria.

I am not against it, I’d prefer to see us and Syria having a quiet border. However, them providing support to iran and Hezbollah is not something we can accept, if we can meet halfway then it would be for the best. Now, you can claim we’ve helped the opposition back then, but it was the right call as other Shia factions came too close like the Afghans and the Pakis. I have said it and I will say it again from a personal view as I were there, many IDF units at the border are ready for action if the order is given. The firepower that will be used is not something you can imgaine, I pity those who would have to withstand it.

Blas de Lezo

The only way Israel will have a quiet border with Syria and free of Persians is if you abide by UN security council resolutions and return the Golan Heights. Otherwise the IRGC will always be hugging your borders.

The IRGC will be burned by Israel … there will be ‘no quarter offered’ … eh?

tzatz

A new Iranian stooge … pmsl

Blas de Lezo

Hello? what are you a prepubescent Juden?

tzatz

next

The Objective

The biggest laugh of the day. Biden/Kamala sending Iran shiploads of cash!
Well, I’ll tell you what is very like to happen
First, Biden will re-enter the nuclear deal without pre-conditions. He’ll lift “nuclear-related” sanctions. This is meant to encourage Iran to negotiate on many other issues. Then, he’ll want to talk about the nuclear deal, Iran’s regional activities and missile program. Iran will not refuse to negotiate these issues upfront. But Iran will drag its feet on negotiations for as long as it could while benefiting from sanctions relief.
But here is a problem many people don’t realize, and which Biden cannot solve easily.
First, the U.S congress passed a law in 2017 (before Trump even left the deal), that mandated sanctions on the IRGC as terrorist organization. Every other entity in Iran that finances the IRGC was subsequently targeted with terrorism-related sanctions. This includes Iran’s two national oil giants, Iran’s central bank, and all other Iranian banks. Here’s the problem for Iran: BIDEN CANNOT LIFT THESE TERROR-RELATED SANCTIONS BY EXECUTIVE ORDER. He’ll need congregational approval – something that’s difficult to secure.
In other words, Iran’s sanctions might be lifted, but Iran will still find it hard to get paid. Trump has set so many roadblocks for Biden that he might spend the entire four years trying to convince American leaders to change course. Considering that much of the Middle East is more determined this time to confront Iran, I can’t see Biden meeting Iran’s expectations even if he wanted to.
Biden might end up being the president that authorizes a strike on Iran’s militias in Iraq, or even Iran itself should Washington be sufficiently provoked.

<>

Well written Objective, and all of the guys here should also know Russia won’t rush to help Iran in a regional war. On the contrary, the downfall of the mullahs is better for them as it gives Russia more power in the ME. They certainly don’t want or need them in Syria.

Concrete Mike

Dont worry we wont have mercy on you either. No mercy for treasonous scum like you!

The Objective

The IRGC is a deceptive and cunning rattle snake. They are quick to emphasize Israel’s problems with Sunni Muslims in order to garner support from the Sunnis. But their first agenda targets the Sunnis not Israel. We can see how the led a decades-long effort to overthrow the Taliban regime despite the fact that the Taliban was not a U.S puppet neither was it in league with Israel. They’re oppressing and assassinating Sunnis in Iraq who stand in their way of trying to impose a Shiite state similar to Iran. Even the highest Shiite authority in Iraq is SQUARELY against Iran’s policies. An overwhelming majority of Iraqi Shiites want the U.S to remain in the country, because they rightly understand Iran to be the biggest threat to their lives, security, and freedom of worship.

I a classical example of a hard-core Sunnis Muslim. But I know deep down that Iran represents a far greater threat to us than Israel and America. I’d rather the corrupt monarchies of Saudi Arabia and U.A.E rule Mecca and Medina than Iran and its network or institutionalized terror armies. And I want Israel to keep bombing you guys to hell. They are actually doing Sunnis Muslims a favor.

They don’t need Iran, they can keep working with Russia and I promise you we Israelis won’t have any problem with it. Iran is making the situation worse for the Syrians as well as the Lebanese, when I wrote that over 100,000 IDF troops are ready for an invasion I meant it. Nasrallah understood it, I can only hope Assad realizes too Iran is only using him.

Helen4Yemen

Goddamned aliens leeching off Arab resources.
The word “Israel+i” was invented in 1948 copying
from Yemen+i, Iraq+

The Objective

Assad is one of the most foolish leaders I’ve known. I can’t see any benefit for him or Syria in allying with Iran and Hezbollah. He put his country right in the middle of Israel and Iran’s corssfire. Now the local Syrian population suffers the brunt of this destabilization. I wonder what Syrian policy makers were thinking before allowing Iran turn Syria into a transport hub for weapons to Hezbollah.
Either way, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the Iran-Hezbollah link via Syria will be cut. Russia is not in support of this so-called resistance axis, because it also threatens Russia’s interest in Syria as can be seen in the current tensions between Russia and Iran in Syria. Hopefully, this ends soon.
The Iranian regime is under the worst pressure in its entire history. Should this pressure be maintained, they will have only two options: Back down or fight a devastating war which Iran is sure to loss or suffer the most causalities and destruction. This is why Biden will find it hard to garner support in Washington if he ever intends to appease Iran like the juvenile Obama. I’m pretty confident the mullahs won’t opt for war.

tzatz

Good analysis …. ???

Assad was losing a war against Sunni Jihadis … Hezbollah and eventually Iranian proxies defeated them … so that’s why Assad brought them in … but WITHOUT Russian air support it would NOT have happened …

So … Assad & co must choose Russia a longtime ‘ally’ … whose ability to rebuild is IMPOSSIBLE with Israel bombing them weekly / daily

Israel CANNOT STOP THEIR CAMPAIGN until Hezbollah / IRGC / Shia Brigades are removed … and ONLY UPON VERIFICATION …

Stay Safe

The Objective

I think trouble started for Syria when they allowed Iran ship weapons to Hezbollah. I remember reading from a reliable source that Israel secretly warned Assad many times to stop allowing Iran transfer weapons to Hezbollah via Syria. Assad obviously didn’t heed that warning. But I bet now he’s truly regretted that action.
Whatever happens, I support the ejection of Iranian militias from Syria.

The Objective

JIMI JAMES

One of the most bravest and successfull defiant peoples leader on earth(period)

The Objective

He’ll soon strike a deal with Israel and the West. Russia will get you guys out of Syria.

The Objective

It seems to me like Iran’s competition with Russia in Syria has taken a new turn. I’ve recently being reading the Russian blogosphere and I discovered to my surprise that Russians are increasingly seeing Iran as a competitor in Syria instead of an ally. As soon as Russia and the SAA moved to Deir-Ezzor, we see Israeli strikes targeting Shiite terrorists there. It’s like Russia has given Israel a free pass to bomb Iranian militias in Syria. From what this guy “Willing Conscience” has been saying here, it appears the Iran-allied militias in Syria are more concerned with cementing their hold over Syria than fighting ISIS. If that’s truly the case, then Russia has a big problem already. While Russia may not lose Syria to the rebels, it might lose it to Shiite terror militias of Iran.
I’m pretty happy about the way the world has turned against Iran because of its destabilizing activities. And I’m pretty happy every time Israel bombs these Shiite bastards to hell. They magnify problems anywhere they set foot, despite suffering high losses themselves.
Just like you mentioned in another comment, I think it’ll be better for Syria if Israel would launch a ground invasion near the border. It even gets if the invasion is coordinated with Russia. The Syrian Arab Army should be kept out of the way. Only Iran’s militias should be gutted in that region.
If Russia and Assad do not intensify their efforts to get Iran’s militias out of Syria, they’ve lost this war already. Because even if the war ends right now, Iran’s militias will not lay down their arms, they won’t answer to the Syrian government, and they won’t absorb into the national army. They’ll want to be an independent force like Hezbollah or the PMU who refuse to do all these things, and hence, exist as a parallel military in one country.

<>

Exactly Objective, but even the big talker Narallah did nothing even after all his threats to kill IDF soldiers, and he knew exactly why. I can tell you we were very close to entering Lebanon 3 months ago, especially after Hezbollah failed attempts. If and when we enter Syria, it will be only to target the Iranian proxies, as long as the SAA won’t side with them. But Russia has other plans, I think they will help kicking out iran before it comes to us doing it ourselves.

The Objective

Looks like the Russian-Iranian competition in Syria has taken a new turn. Anything that brings relief upon the Syrian population is a welcome development even if that means cooperating with Israel. The Shiite militias know where Israel is. They should go fight Israel directly if they feel capable enough instead of hiding behind innocent civilians in the Middle East who end up bearing the brunt of any cowardly war by the network of organized terrorists infesting Muslim societies across the Middle East.
It’s time for the world to launch a military operation that guts Iran’s terror militias in Syria and beyond.

Helen4Yemen

IT IS THE ODED YINON PLAN AT WORK – DAMMIT! DON’T YOU GET IT? …

The Western front, which on the surface appears more problematic, is
in fact less complicated than the Eastern front, in which most of the
events that make the headlines have been taking place recently.
Lebanon’s total dissolution into five provinces serves as a
precedent for the entire Arab world including Egypt, Syria, Iraq and
the Arabian peninsula and is already following that track. The
dissolution of Syria and Iraq later on into ethnically or
religiously unquiet areas such as in Lebanon, is Israel’s primary
target on the Eastern front in the long run, while the dissolution
of the military power of those states serves as the primary short
term target. Syria will fall apart, in accordance with its ethnic
and religious structure, into several states such as in present day
Lebanon, so that there will be a Shi’ite Alawi state along its coast,
a Sunni state in the Aleppo area, another Sunni state in Damascus
hostile to its northern neighbor, and the Druzes who will set up a
state, maybe even in our Golan, and certainly in the Hauran and in
northern Jordan. This state of affairs will be the guarantee for
peace and security in the area in the long run, and that aim is
already within our reach today.

Iraq, rich in oil on the one hand and internally torn on the
other, is guaranteed as a candidate for Israel’s targets. Its
dissolution
is even more important for us than that of Syria.
Iraq is stronger than Syria. In the short run it is Iraqi power which
constitutes the greatest threat to Israel. An Iraqi-Iranian war will
tear Iraq apart and cause its downfall at home even before it is able
to organize a struggle on a wide front against us. Every kind of
inter-Arab confrontation will assist us in the short run and will
shorten the way to the more important aim of breaking up Iraq
into denominations as in Syria and in Lebanon. In Iraq, a division
into provinces along ethnic/religious lines as in Syria during
Ottoman times is possible. So, three (or more) states will exist
around the three major cities: Basra, Baghdad and Mosul, and Shi’ite
areas in the south will separate from the Sunni and Kurdish north. It
is possible that the present Iranian-Iraqi confrontation will deepen
this polarization.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

For once I’m way behind the 8 ball, this is something new to me and the last thing I was expecting, but it’s very welcome news and I don’t think I could have even hoped anything like this could happen, I underestimated the Russians resolve, and that’s despite the fact I keep saying the Russians are the answer and the Iranians are the problem.
You all know by now that I’m totally against Russia’s cooperation with Turkey in the north, but in the south I see the Russians as saviours, so this is the very best news any of us [except the pro Iranian supporters] could’ve expected, especially me, and this may be the very thing that’s needed to stop “Darra, Quneitra, and As Suwayda spiraling out of control”, God I hope so.
Now lets get to the part where I insult some of the morons who are making ridiculous and irrelevant comments, and that includes all the pro Iranian supporters, especially Helen4Yemen [did she even bother to read the story].
I can see absolutely no one, not even the people making sane rational comments picked up on the real nature of the story, they didn’t read between the lines, or most likely don’t have enough accurate knowledge of the past situation to even begin to understand what this new and practically unbelievable story is really telling us.
So I’ll once again offer my opinion as unwanted and unwelcomed as it always is.
Does anyone ever think for themselves on SF, or do you all let other people do it for you, this is an obvious smokescreen story that’s going to let everyone come away happy, some of us will end up being at least morbidly happy [pro Iranian supporters], some of us will be mildly happy to really happy [Russian supporters], and some of us will be totally and utterly ecstatic [which includes me, the anti Iranians, and the REAL pro Syrian supporters.
So why am I saying that so confidently, it’s because this meeting could only serve one purpose alone, there could be no other reason at all to hold this meeting, so the explanation I’m about to expand on is the ONLY reason to have this type of meeting.
I’m going to try and simplify because I know most of you hate long winded bibles [maybe that’s why you can’t think for yourselves], so this is the simplified and dumbed down version.
The Iranians are about to pull their military forces out of Syria. but this meeting is going to allow them to save face when they do, that may not be the only thing discussed at the meeting but I’ll bet my life it’s the most important important thing they discussed at the meeting.
So now I’ll make some predictions so you can all see whether or not I was right or wrong.
1, Israel will stop bombing Iranian targets and take an hiatus,
2, After a while [a few months], Iran will announce it no longer needs to keep the bulk of it’s forces in Syria,
3, Then Iran will slowly start removing them,
4, Russia will consolidate it’s forces with the SAA in the south,
5, And Israel will offer to come in and help financially rebuild southern Syria.
That’s my 5 predictions but I’m going to add another clause, because being the pig ignorant religious Zealots that they are, the Iranian Government may try to stall on the deal I’m asserting they just made [with proxies], and if they do that the Israelis will go back to bombing them again, but it will only be a pause, the Iranians will pull out [by the end of this year], the writings on the wall.
But this doesn’t mean they’ll totally pull out, all their economic assets aren’t included in my withdrawal prediction, they’ll keep them and any personnel they need to maintain them, but Hezbollah and the Iranian militias will all leave.
As I said I’ve had no prior knowledge of this development [it must’ve been very secretive], and I’m only using my knowledge of the past and current situation to come to the conclusions I have, and as I’ve been saying to all the pro Iranian trolls who’ve been hounding me lately, SF has given us 5 hidden messages over the last month, and they’ve all been anti Iranian messages.
I’ve been telling all the pro Iranian trolls to be prepared for some more shocks from Russia, and judging by the absence of any comments from the usual suspects, I’m pretty sure they all got a big shock from this one.
Where are you Arch Bungle.
And to all the pro Iranian supporters, no I don’t hate Iranians, Persian people are no different to anyone else, but their religious Government is as bad as Isis in some respects, they may not chop off as many people heads as Isis do, but they’re just as oppressive to the people they rule, I’ve seen the way they’ve been treating their Syrian allies, and the way they’ve been making Russia’s life miserable in the south as well as Deir ez Zor [they used to in Aleppo too], so with friends like that who needs enemies, the sooner they leave the better.
