Syrian government forces have made advances against militants in the al-Qaboun area in eastern Damascus.
By today, government troops had reseized the mosques of al-Noman, al-Hussein and al-Qassem and its nearby areas and reached the al-Khabbaz mosque.
The so-called “Syrian opposition” de-facto turned mosques in the area into fortified positions used for military actions. The same strategy had been implemented by militants during the battle for Aleppo.
The Syrian army intensified operations in al-Qaboun in early March and since then has been steadly putting pressure on militants, pushing them to surrender the area.
