On May 15, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) 4th Division shelled Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) positions south of the town of Kabani in the northern Lattakia countryside with a barrage of heavy rockets after failing to advance earlier.
A video released by Syrian soldiers shows that the local-made Golan-1000 heavy rocket launcher was involved in the shelling.
The Golan-1000, which was introduced for the first time last year, launches 500mm improvised rocket-assisted munitions (IRAMs). Each munition is equipped with a 240mm rocket booster and can weight up to 1,000kg. The IRAMs range is between 2 and 3,5km.
The rocket launcher is primarily used against military personnel, equipment and buildings, including fortified constructions, such as trenches, tunnels and caves.
Lighter variants of Golan IRAMs were also deployed to support the ongoing military operation in northern Lattakia, that is aimed at capturing Kabani and securing its surroundings.
