On January 23, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) uncovered several weapons caches during search operations in the countryside of Damascus, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

“During security and search operations in the areas recently liberated by the army … The authorities found loads of weapons and ammunition of different types, which had been left behind by the terrorist groups, in the governorate of Damascus,” a military source told the SANA.

The weapons included 14 US-made M72 LAW anti-tank rocket-propelled grenades, 2 Yugoslav-made M79 Osa anti-tank weapons along with several rounds, several rounds of the Czechoslovakian-made RPG-75 anti-tank weapon, 850 rocket-propelled grenades, 160,000 bullets of different calibers and satellite communication systems.

Most of these weapons were smuggled to Damascus by US-backed militants operating in southern and southeastern Syria in the early years of the conflict.
