Syrian government forces are storming the ISIS-held city of Mayadin. Last week, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies, supported by the Russian Aerospace Forces, reached the city and captured few points west and south of it, including the old airport area. Since then, clashes have been ongoing.

What about the reports that ISIS left? Shouldn’t it be free since monday evening? Were these all just rumors? Still no pictures from the city itself, only outskirts.

    • Trustin Judeau

ISIS fled one of their biggest stronghold in Syria – really ? This battle will take some time . There havent been reports of advances in this area in the last few days so looks like black out or SAA cant advance there because of ISSI resistance

      • J.Guest

Could be blackout hope they flank them from all sides and leave the river as the only escape.

      • RTA (Bob or Al)

I heard they fled to join their muppets on the East side of the Euphrates, but one day we shall find out the truth I suppose.

The SAA and allies seem to have done an incredible good job with huge advances in one night ……. as I say, one day, we shall know.

        • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

The reports are only coming from pro US sites can’t trust them.

          • RTA (Bob or Al)

I suppose so, but it is also being “inferred” by other parties in the way that they will meet up with the re-enforcements coming in from Iraq (as long as Russia doesn’t annihilate them all of course) on the Eastern side of the Euphrates and low and behold, let the SDF win the race.

Personally, I am getting to the stage where I shall read all articles with a pinch of salt, cheer if it good, ignore if bad.

Personally I think the Syrians and the peskie Russky’s have it all in hand and I wish them the best of luck and God’s speed.

      • Florian N

There is a report about this on southfront from the 8.10

        • Free man

          Just fake news.

          • Florian N

Sure, but why publishing news like this? It looks more like SAA opened a propaganda studio next to Mayadin and all the pro-goverment outlets fell for it. This is the secound report on this by southfront but still there is no confirmed report about real movement on the city.

          • Free man

I too didn’t understand the logic of writing unverified and illogical news by SF.

          • goingbrokes

It’s not necessarily fake news. I imagine that confusion reigns in the Daeshland. Low level commander makes one decision only to be countermanded by someone higher up, but who wasn’t there for a while as he was being helicoptered further back. Troops though they were all being moved back, but then the command came to stay put, the Islamic State’s elite requires cannon fodder for a while longer. Personally I think it is a really messy situation.

          • Florian N

Yes, but then SAA could just say that ISIS commanding section is a mess but instead we hear something from a total retreat.

          • goingbrokes

The media may be simply repeating what they hear. SAA intel unit may be observing some kind of retreat going on, the reporter gets that info and reports it as he heard it. An hour later daesh moves back, reporter is on the field doing other stuff. There are plenty of scenarios that can result in inaccurate reporting. No one is necessarily lying to do that.

        • Wahid Algiers

Not true. Remaining ISIS fighters resist the SAA troops and Tigers and many other ISIL fighters will join. See my comment below.

        • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

The reported it as pro US govt sites were the only posting this about the withdrawal of ISIS meaning it’s sources can’t be confirmed.

          • Florian N

“ISIS terrorists have withdrawn from the city of Mayadin in the province of Deir Ezzor aimd the ongoing advance of the Syrian Army in the area, the pro-government media outlet ANNA NEWS reported on Sunday citing sources in the Syrian intelligence and own correspondents embedded with army units.”
            That’s what I read so…

          • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

That was reported on Pro Terrorist sites and ANNA did say they were reported by ISIS as they claimed to be withdrawing , listen more and assume less.

Many sites even Pro US/SDF/FSA/Al Qaeda sites were making this outlandish claim. Never trust your ears until your eyes can confirm.

      • Wahid Algiers

Not only the battle for Mayadin will take some time. As the so-called “Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR)” claims ISIS gave many of its positions to the so-called SDF.
Even the ISIL-fighters in Raqqa could be deployed against SAA and allies by SDFs permission. ISIS draws its fighters back from front lines with SDF and fully concentrates on fighting true Syrians. It is clear, the price in case of survival will be a secure escape by the aid of SDF or integration in their lines.

      • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They didn’t flee they are getting reinforced only pro US sites are feeding that nonsense they pulled out. The only players doing it are all think tank analysts and tiny media flunkies and trolls all in the same loop.

      • Ronald

Heard reports that SAA / Russia , has located ISIS tunnel entrance locations , on the east side of the river from Mayadin . These tunnels apparently feed men and equipment into the city . As you said , this battle will take some time .

    • Free man

      Fake news.

      • Florian N

Yes but why publishing fake news so often?

        • Free man

You’re right. It creates an unreliable feeling.

        • Ronald

There are times when it is necessary to misguide the enemy .
We too ( the media ) are pawns .

  • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Hope not too many Fake comments by the trolls don’t get too inquisitive in a media blackout, they will complain and whine about why are they not releasing pictures etc. without any thought. They get dumber and more stunned everyday.

    • Michael Qiao

I hope there is a media blackout

  • Jesus

Siege the city from a western position, while other forces swing south east taking control of N4 going south to Al Bukama. If ISIS wants a “Raqqa” like siege, surround the city cutting off all supply and communications lines systematically destroying heavy vehicles, ammunition depots and other installations to reduce their mobility and war fighting capability, while inching closer to Al Bukama.

    • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

That’s the game plan they fight in the outer districts and whittle them down and take out their reinforcements as they come. They seen the reinforcements on the Satellite approaching no US/coalition airstrikes to hinder them. They have some more surprises in store, for the Mayadin and Abukamal.

      • Jesus

Russian Air Force should fly up to the border of Iraq or into Iraq and neutralize the ISIS forces that are being “overlooked” by US Air Force. I think the Russians have learned from US guile to subvert and distract the Russian, SAA and allies war effort, they are ready for future “tricks”.
That is the extent of the strategic/tactical mindset US command in ME can generate.
