The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a barrage of rockets at a gathering of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) vehicles near the town of Bubaline in the southern Idlib countryside on February 8.
“The gathering received direct hits,” the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reporter confirmed.
Such attacks are usually carried out with the heavy BM-27 Uragan [220mm] and BM-30 Smerch [300mm] rocket launchers. Both systems can launch cluster rockets armed with anti-tank munitions.
The SANA said that the rocket attack was a response to recent violations of the Russian-Turkish demilitarized zone agreement. Radical militants, led by HTS, are still ignoring the agreement, while Turkey continue to turn a blind eye.
As the failure of the agreement becomes clearer every day, Russia and its allies may soon find themselves forced to launch a military operation against HTS.
