On May 3, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), the Palestinian Liberation Army (PLA) and other pro-government factions continued their military operation against ISIS south of the city of Damascus and captured the Waseem housing project in the Yarmouk refugee camp as well as the al-A’lam roundabout in the al-Hajar al-Aswad district, according to Syrian pro-government sources.
Earlier, the SAA and its allies managed to split the ISIS-held pocket south of Damascus, after capturing several key positions between al-Hajar al-Aswad and the Yarmouk camp.
From its side, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq reported that ISIS fighters killed 39 soldiers of the SAA during the clashes in the Yarmouk camp and al-Hajar al-Aswad. However, the provided number is questionable as the SAA didn’t face any serious resistance during its operations on May 3.
Local observers believe that the SAA will be able to eliminate the remaining fighters of ISIS south of Damascus within the upcoming days if the terrorist group does not surrender and accept an evacuation agreement.
