As a large Turkish military convoy is moving to rescue militants in Khan Shaykhun, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and it allies launched a push to capture a chunk of the M5 highway north of the militant stronghold. Governemnt troops are aiming to cut off the road and prevent the Turkish military from entering the town and setting up an ‘observation post’ there.
According to pro-government sources, the SAA is currentlly storming the northern entrance to Khan Shaykhun. In particular, the SAA seeks to capture the Nimr Hill (Tell Nimr). If it’s able to do this, the Syrian military will get control of the road in the area.
Meanwhile, the Russian Aerospace Forces continued bombing militant targets across southern Idlib. The recent video released by the Russian military shows an airstrike on militants’ gathering in the settlement of Maaret Tera.
