The recent Israeli strikes on Syria targeted a number of military positions in the southern region, several sources revealed.

The strikes, which were the first on Syria this year, were launched by the Israeli military late on January 6. The Syrian military said several missiles were intercepted. Nevertheless, a number of targets were hit.

Two Syrian military defectors told Reuters that the strikes hit the Kisswa area in the southern outskirts of the capital Damascus, where several military bases are located. The sources added that military bases used by Lebanon’s Hezbollah were also struck.

Furthermore, the al-Suwayda 24 blog reported that two Israeli missiles hit a radar site located near the town of al-Dour in the western al-Suwayda countryside.

The Horan Free League reported that another radar site located in the town of Koayiah in the western countryside of Daraa was struck. The outlet also claimed that a position of the Syrian military’s 112th Brigade was hit.

More information about the recent Israeli strikes will likely surface in the upcoming few days, when new satellite images will be available.

The repeated Israeli attacks on Syria are meant to push Iranian forces out from the war-torn country. This strategy has so far failed to achieve this objective.
