The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) destroyed a large convoy of Jaysh al-Izza near the town of Kafr Zita in the northern Hama countryside on June 5.
A military source told the pro-government Muraselon news outlet that the army detected the convoy, which consisted of more than 10 vehicles, and targeted it with a barrage of rockets.
“Several vehicles armed with machine guns were destroyed, we also killed and injured many militants,” the source said.
Jaysh al-Izza was likely planning to launch an assault on SAA positions south of Kafr Zita. The radical group, which is a close ally of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), carried out many similar attacks during the last few months.
The SAA halted its advance in the northern Hama countryside a day earlier. Ground operations will likely be resumed after Eid al-Fitr, which is set to end on June 7.
