Still waiting for a new Russian naval base/harbor in southern Iran on the Gulf of Oman to be announced.

    • Human kind is doomed

I don’t think that is gonna happened any time soon. Contrary to popular belief Russia and Iran aren’t in good relationship.
Remember start of Syrian campaign when Russians started to use one of Iran’s bases for launching air attacks on daesh? That cooperation didn’t last long, and no one knows why it ended but it ended quickly!

      • Alberto Garza

without russia israel would have nuked iran already .

      • skinnerreturns

Irans constitution bars foreign troops from being stationed in Iran, simple.

Iran can do joint operations with friendly states, as happened with the Russians, and they are open to doing more co-operative actions with Russia, just not in a formal agreement.

        • BMWA1

That is right, every cooperation is in effect a one-off arrangement. But I am sure Russian aircraft have Iran airspace access 24/7/52, along with Iraq, important to maintain the operation.

Russia and Iran cooperate in the Caspian Sea—civilian transport is now being enhanced w ferries between Iran and Russia.

          • skinnerreturns

Iran are setting up a ferry to Dagestan I believe.

That North-South connection with Russia to the Gulf might just happen yet.

        • Human kind is doomed

How do you think Iran is feeling about Israeli rampage all over middle east and Russians being cool with that?

          • skinnerreturns

Russia is cool about selling S300400 to ME states, at a billion per unit, why not!

Iran, like all the other ME nations, are sick to the back teeth with having an SS force constantly killing women and children, but Israel will duck up someday.

They’ve been thrown out of Palestine quite a few times before, it will happen again.

      • Icarus Tanović

You have no idea what are you talking about, do you…

        • Human kind is doomed

          Yes, i do!

          • skinnerreturns

            Oh no you don’t!

          • Human kind is doomed

Try to find one example of good cooperation between Russia and Iran. Russia even screwed them with S-300 for how many years.

          • skinnerreturns

Duh, what about Iranian permission for Russian bombers to operate out of Iran, or that Russian missiles can fly over Iranian territory!

How many US fighter are based in Israel?

          • Human kind is doomed

Well, now you make me laugh!

          • skinnerreturns

            Just now!

            Good boy.

          • You can call me Al

            He’s behind you.

          • skinnerreturns

            He wishes! lol

        • Human kind is doomed

I read it and huge part of this text is inline with my views on the topic.
Iranians didn’t fancy Russia/USSR thru out the modern history, and just recently there is a change of hearts between them, not enough to call them an open allies thou.
I am not inline with professor’s view of RU-ISR relationship, i believe there is more to it than what he describes.
Idea that USA and Israel aren’t closest allies is also questionable.
Israel is No1 tool in US’s hands in middle east, not even those wahhabi scum KSA is usefull to US.

Explanation on Russia’s brief use of Iranian base is little bit funny to me.

        • You can call me Al

To be honest, whilst the Saker has been spot on in a lot of his reports, others have been so far off the mark, I take his work with a pinch of salt (no disrespect intended to anyone). My view only.

          • ruca

            However, Mr Marandi is brilliant.

          • You can call me Al

            ?.

An interesting video for us all. Have a good weekend Al.

          • ruca

It’s not clear what you are referring to.

          • You can call me Al

What an excellent short film. Thanks very much for that.

            10/10

          • ruca

You’re welcome Al. I love to let it run while I cook. Soothing.

      • EveryoneIsBiased

It ended because it did hurt Irans national pride and was against their constitution. It was seen as if Iran was giving its territory away, and after Russia often did follow the Anti-Iran alliance before the nuclear deal, feelings for Russia were not exactly warm.
Iran is not Syria to have to accept a bigger power and give its own terriroty as concessions for survival.

        • Human kind is doomed

Exactly, thank you! That is what i am trying to say! Western MSM is talking about “big bad Russia” and “big bad Iran” and by that irrational feeling is created that those two countries are “in love” while they almost don’t have maritime lines in Caspian sea between them and you would expect them to use Caspian sea to the max. Iran is very “conservative” towards just about anybody!

    • ruca

In Iran will never ever happen. It’s against the Iranian constitution.

Russian Navy unveils New Weapon 5p-42 Filin (eagle-owl) – России представляет оружие Филин

RIA Novosti, Russia’s domestic state news agency, reported that a Russian military contractor had begun supplying the navy with the weapon, a “visual optical interference” device, named Filin 5P-42. The weapon’s name “Filin” translates to “Eagle Owl” in English.
The technology, which was developed to dazzle and incapacitate attackers, has been deployed on the Russian naval frigates Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Kasatonov, according to a news release from Ruselectornics, which created the Filin system.
9News reported that the weapon fires a beam, similar to a strobe light, which hinders the enemy’s ability to see the ships. Weapon can also suppress night vision technology, laser targeting systems and anti-tank missiles up to a distance of more than three miles.
