On February 24, a series of Russian and Syrian strikes hit several targets in the northwestern region of Greater Idlib.
Warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces targeted a number of militants’ posts in the outskirts of town of al-Bara in the southern countryside of Idlib.
This was the fourth wave of Russian airstrikes to hit the militant-held region this year. No human losses were reported by opposition sources.

At around the same time, the Syrian Arab Army artillery targeted several positions in the town of Bzabor, also located in the southern Idlib countryside. One of the targeted positions was a communication tower that used to provide internet for militants in the region.
Opposition sources said that Sahir al-Jazar, a communication engineer who worked at the tower, was killed as a result of the Syrian strikes.

The Russian and Syrian strikes were likely a response to the recent violations of the ceasefire in Greater Idlib, that was brokered last year. The region’s militants, led by al-Qaeda’s Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, violated the ceasefire 35 times in the recent days, according to the Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria.
These strikes will not deter the militants, who continue to escalate their operations against government forces around Greater Idlib. More deceive measures should be taken to change the situation in the region.
