The US has provoked Turkey into launching a military operation in the Syrian area of Afrin supplying advanced weapons to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which control the area, the Assistant to the Secretary of the Russian Security Council Alexander Venediktov told the state-run news agency Ria Novosti.

“The Kurds are being boosted with advanced weaponry. The deliveries of modern weapons and encouragement of separatist sentiments among the Kurds have in fact provoked Turkey into carrying out the military operation in Syria’s northern Afrin region,” the official said.

Ankara launched its military operation against the YPG on January 20. On March 1, the Turkish General Staff released a statement saying that 2,222 ‘terrorists’ had been neutralized since the start of Operation Olive Branch in the Afrin area. Ankara argues that the YPG is a terrorist group and is not going to halt its operations in the area.

Washington’s claims that it has supplied with weapons only the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have not influenced Ankara. For Turkey and all other neutral observers, it’s clear that the SDF is dominated by the YPG and includes some Arab units mostly for propaganda purposes.

It would appear that Russia is throwing some more wood onto this fire. That way it can sit back and watch the fireworks between Ankara and Washington.

    • Rüdiger Preiss

Naa. Russia got it spot on, they know what the US are playing. If the US opposed Turkeys operation in ANY way, Turkey would have NEVER set foot on Syria. Not even an inch. Simples.

      • mhtsaropinigitakis

exactly!! USA wants Turkey to become like Syria so Kurdistan will grow in size and after turkey comes iran…also the USA and Israel are trying to engage us (Greeks) in a Greek Turkish confrontation while Russia has nothing to loose.

        • George King

The EU’s transnational criminal cabal owns Greeks, lock, stock and barrel, have you no shame, nor dignity? You have lost it all, Treasure, Commons and Unalienable Rights of man. You are worried by anything else but fighting the needed fight for your “Greeks”. Jailed any bankers yet? I didn’t think so, you put them in more control by placing the shackles on your own ankles.

          • Mikronos

Greece spends its NATO quota, but Greece hasn’t deployed its military to assist in NATO operations. Because it’s being saved to help ‘do’ the Turks and restore “Constantinople” to ‘Christendom’.

          • mhtsaropinigitakis

take your complaints to Soros then…cause soon you will be at the same place as we are.

        • Skagos

The issue is that Turkey and Iran are not Syria and Iraq. I mean no disrespect to Syria and Iraq but taking down Iran and Turkey… That’s one hell of a job and won’t be achieved unless US is willing to lose hundreds of thousands of its own soldiers.

          • mhtsaropinigitakis

they have the Kurds for that job dont worry…Turkey is really weak

          • Skagos

Kurds… The issue is that they don’t know the Kurds in Turkey. I suppose you too do not know almost 60% of the Kurds are voting for Erdogan. And majority of the Kurds are living in the west of Turkey, not east.

          • Mehmet Karaca

Soooooooooo right my friend. I am a Kurd living in Turkey, I love my country, I can do anything for it. My ancestors fought for her, died for her, my relatives already gave their lives in fight against PKK. If necessary I will do the same, and gladly do so. That is my country, we founded altogether, if anyone thinks US can divide here with Kurds, that means he lost his mind because I am not the only Kurd who ready to fight and die against them and his loyalty to Turkey above all else in this f.. world.

Moreover, I want all YPG terrorists dead, I want all PKK terrorists dead. They bring nothing but the terrorism, destruction, oppression, death and pain. I know someone in Turkey supported them but they are minority in Kurds. Otherwise this country would be divided already. We are here and going to nowhere. Noone can divide my beatiful country.

          • Soran

Idiots and traitors like you are not a kurd we don’t turn our back on our brother’s for the sake of a fascist, a good kurd is a dead kurd in the eyes of your beloved President dont call yourself a kurd you are a disgrace and all the others like you are
YPG are not terrorists haven’t attacked 🦃 its the other way round its innocent kurdish kids and woman you are killing you can’t defeat or kill our heros bjiiiii YPG bji APO BJI PKK

          • Mehmet Karaca

You ate this country’s bread, went to its school, somehow learned a different language there, who knows may be worked its institutions and betrayed her anyway and yet, I am the traitor, well done. YPG is PKK, everyone living in these lands sure know it, everywhere in Afrin has portraits of PKK suicide bombers on buildings. It is true, YPG didnt attacked, but your Stalinist fellas were going to attack one day. Your whore and terrorist brothers who sold themselves to the most paid country are all going to die you know. Btw you will be sold out by the U.S once again, and only Turkey will look after Kurds when the dust settled just like Iraq. Deepest point of the hell belongs to traitors, but you will never believe the hell, you are Zerdust anyway arent you

          • mhtsaropinigitakis

yes in the east turkey there are only like 25 million…

          • Skagos

Did you get that number from your arse? 25 million is perhaps the total number of Kurds in ME.

          • mhtsaropinigitakis

how about you open a book next time instead of your butt hole?

          • Skagos

Still waiting for your answer as to where you got the 25 million number.

          • mhtsaropinigitakis

actually it is 30 million now that i checked again

          • Skagos

            Still waiting for the source.

        • Floyd Hazzard

Nope, they actually want to balkanize Syria and surround Damascus controlled territories. So if they sit in Iraq, Jordan and Al Tanf and with the Kurds in the North, Turkey holds Afrin and parts of Idlib and Latakia and Israel controls the Sea and Daraa, Syria is blocked on all sides. They can support guerilla warefare on it forever.

          • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Impossible to hold the North eastern bases as there is growing wide spread protests and dissent in the region opposed to the US presence and large scale disappearances and murders of the protesters, the people are asking questions and the US and Kurds aren’t giving any.

          • Redadmiral

Any evidence for the above statement?

          • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

This information has been available for access in the Middle East news and carried on Liveuamaps for a couple years now.

    • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Have already told everyone who controls Turkey it was obvious how their dialogue with the US was never to accusatory. Learn in life it is always good idea to look a gift horse in the mouth especially if it has Unicorn horn!
