The Russian Center for reconciliation of the conflicting sides in Syria carried out a humanitarian mission in Syria’s al-Suwayda Governorate, the center’s head Lieutenant General Sergei Solomatin told reporters on Wednesday.

“In the past 24 hours, the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the conflicting sides has carried out a humanitarian mission in the town of Ayra, al-Suwayda province, handing out 500 food sets,” Solomatin said.

According to the general, refugees are returning to their homes. As of January 8, 2019, as many as 215,281 people have come back.

“Implementing Syrian President Bashar Assad’s decree from October 9, 2018, the Syrian authorities continue work to amnesty those who have dodged military service, including refugees and members of illegal armed groups. As of January 8, 2019, as many as 23,924 people have been amnestied,” Solomatin said.

As of January 8, 2019, as many as 31,003 residential buildings have been reconstructed along with 718 educational and 132 healthcare facilities. At least 966 kilometers of motorways have been repaired.

“In the past 24 hours, no shellings by illegal armed groups have been registered in the Idlib de-escalation zone,” Solomatin concluded.

The Russian reconciliation center continues to fulfill assigned tasks after the completion of the military campaign in Syria. The center’s officers regularly travel around the country’s liberated areas to assess the humanitarian situation. The main efforts of the Russian military are now focused on assistance to the refugees returning to their homes and evacuation of civilians from de-escalation zones.
