On December 11, the Russian Navy’s frigate Admiral Gorshkov fired a Zircon hypersonic cruise missile from the White Sea at a coastal target located at the Chizha training ground in the Arkhangelsk region. According to the Defense Ministry, the hypersonic missile successfully hit the target located at a distance of over 350km. The missile flight speed was more than 8 Mach.

The previous test launch of the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile was carried out by the Admiral Gorshkov on November 26. Then, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Zircon missile successfully hit a sea target at a distance of 450 km. The flight speed of the missile was more than Mach 8.

Impressive… Going to be even more so when a Yasen-M (Project 885M) fires one from underwater.

The USN and RN are going to be sweating their balls off then!

Yes, this is the big deal about this development in terms of balance of power. It’s impressive that they can shoot this extremely powerful weapon from a small ship like a frigate and by analogy from any unit that has launchers compatible with Kalibr (and possibly Oniks). This means that a whole array of warships instantly gets expanded with hypersonic capability, some of them small and hardly detectable. This is a big step and very important. Of course, it was preplanned. They surely had this in mind when they designed the launch systems. This is a fundamental philosophy of the Russian arms development — expandability, modularity, and integrability in an efficient way.

        “instantly” a bit of exageration

          I think not.

In the TV games you play, I bet the upgrades are made instantly.

So kind of you to be concerned about my person. However, it’s a bit disappointing that you are confusing me with someone else. If you cannot understand simple logic and fail to realize the respective consequences on where’s your place and what’s your standing, we would need to move on and accept that we cannot communicate well and make peace with the fact that no disagreement would be resolved. I’m making a living of logic and analysis (although not in the field of politics). I’m simply not going to doubt myself easily. So go your way and feed your deficiencies somewhere else.

What a pompous train of words. I bet the chicks get wet “instantly” have multiple orgasms and Russia upgrades its entire arsenal before you finish introducing yourself.

  2. Lone Ranger says:

I think these are already deployed.
    Contrary to official statements.
    Thstsz a clear warning.

    1. Jesus says:

Yes they are deployed in relative small numbers, synonymous to Poliment Redut that had similar deployment while working out a bug in one of their radars.

  3. Lone Ranger says:

    Best hypersonic cruise missile.
    Period.

    1. Anduin Lothar says:

      Only hypersonic cruise missile atm…

  4. Lone Ranger says:

    Good job Comrades ???
CIA trolls and hasbarats will cry and rage.
    Ukropnazis too…

  5. Lone Ranger says:

Max speed is Mach 11 by the way.
Range for domestic variant is 1200km.
    All public info…

  6. John says:

    That is a bad ass.

  7. Jesus says:

Black Sea and Baltic Sea and Mediterranean will become NATO naval grave yards.

I wouldn’t hold my breathe for that

Name a working defence system that can be used in the West to defeat hypersonic missiles. In reality the nation that dominates is the one that creates a working defence against hypersonic missiles.

        1. occupybacon says:

          Aegis, all icbms are hypersonic.

      2. ruca says:

No, you have countless other reasons to hold your breath. Start now.

  8. farbat says:

its a hypersonic glider the idea of a cruise missile doesnt work for hypersonic speeds so this is an absurd title and weapon description its a hypersonic glider vehicle sea to sea based missile or simply a hypersonic glider missile

  9. farbat says:

russia has the superdooper missile trump was blabbering about and russia did test it for the second time and from what i understand its about to become a stand off weapon aswell soon which probably can be used by all kind of assets like for example long range bomber or such

  10. farbat says:

this missile breaks americas missile defenses but russia didnt need to have this missile to prove this point and here i really think that russia should lean back a little atleast on this issue of missile superiority and move a little bit towards high tech electronics

    1. James says:

I think drone warfare is going to be the way of the future. They should put more effort into creating cheap but effective attack drones that can be used to catch the enemy by surprise and overwhelm them easily.

      1. ruca says:

Sure drones can be used against Russia, but is anyone willing to accept the devastating response?

  11. Assad must stay says:

    This thing is wild dude
