Russian Forces Ready To Prevent ISIS Attacks From US-controlled Areas In Syria - Defense Ministry

The US support to ISIS in Syria is the main obstacle faced by anti-terrorist forces, spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Major General Igor Konashenkov, announced on Monday.

“The main obstacle to the complete elimination of Daesh [ISIS] in Syria is not the military capabilities of terrorists, but rather the support of [our] American colleagues,” Konashenkov said.

He added that Moscow had warned Washington that its forces would repel any “odd” attacks by terrorists from an area controlled by U.S. forces.

Konashenkov added that ISIS has carried out against Syrian forces from the areas where “US military mission” is deployed.

According to the statement, 300 ISIS members left the city of Rubkan on September 28 and moved in the direction of the government-held city of Al-Qaryatayn in Homs province. The terrorists avoided the Syrian army’s posts using coordinates that can be obtained through aerial reconnaissance only and attacked Al-Qaryatayn. On the same day, ISIS conducted multiple attacks against government forces along the strategic Palmyra-Deir Ezzor highway.

“The listed attacks of terrorists are linked by only one thing — they were all carried out from a 50-kilometer zone around the settlement of al-Tanf on the Syrian-Jordanian border, and all from where the ‘US military mission’ is located…,” the spokesman said.

I thought qaryatayn was attacked by a cpl dozen isis fighters and corrupt ndf now its 300??

    • Alex

estimated total number, they shoul send in some isis reported to do exact count :)

      • Kennethllindsy

Huge numbers of casualties inflation happen in every war these days. It’s hard to count bodies from 20,000 feet.

  • FlorianGeyer

This is yet more public exposure of the US collusion with terrorism.
Russia it seems is now willing to take the conflict to the next level on the chess board.

    • Floyd Hazzard

Russia ain’t doing anything. This had played out all too often.

      • FlorianGeyer

Unlike people with your thought processes , Russian leaders do not lash out and throw their food all over the table when they are upset. They think of a plan to ‘educate’ the children at the table of world affairs.

  • Kennethllindsy

Now Russia is just being silly. Makes one miss the late RF UN Ambassador Churkin, who at least was a creative liar.
Russia is taking losses in Syria, so of course it blames the US.
Never mind that Russia has been fighting the Devil Islamic Jihadis for 30 years. And US is also fighting Jihadis.
I guess, next Russia will start blaiming Syria Losses on Climate Change. Why not?

    • Alex

No, that’s american/western thing to blame Russia for their own blunders, elections, “fake news” etc etc,
Sometimes us works with them, taliban poppy fields, and sometimes they fight them :)

      • Kennethllindsy

Ha. There’s no doubt RF tried to affect US elections. The irony is that they helped elect someone who is an unpredicable madman. Now even RF is complaining about Trump.

        • ruca

          Hi Hillary

          • Kennethllindsy

Funny, but I am definitely not a Hillary supporter.
Trump acts crazy. If you watch clips from 20 years ago, Trump speaks in clear sentences and makes sense. Now he mostly talks in near gibberish.
My theory is that he has had a neurological event that has impaired his mental capacity.

          • Kennethllindsy

As a Texan, I would probably have to agree with Rex Tillerson that Trump may in fact, be a moron.

          • Franz Kafka

You are all morons. That is the delicious irony of America and Americans.

          • Franz Kafka

            You simply described ‘an American’.

        • Alex

Lol, no proof but you still keep on going. Helped elect? I think you need to take a good look at how elections in US work, swing states, electors, your elite has chosen for you, nothing to do with Russia. He’s not unpredictable madman, he just likes to position himself like that but frankly it doesn’t matter all who’s “running” the show in your country, it’s always the same.

“Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of a day. But a series of oppression, begun at a distinguished period, and pursued unalterably through every change of ministers (administrations), too plainly proves a deliberate systematic plan of reducing us to slavery. Thomas Jefferson

“The truth is, there is no Islamic army or terrorist group called Al Qaida. And any informed intelligence officer knows this. But there is a propaganda campaign to make the public believe in the presence of an identified entity representing the ‘devil’ only in order to drive the TV watcher to accept a unified international leadership for a war against terrorism. The country behind this propaganda is the US . . .” Former British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook

        • Franz Kafka

No one wants, or needs, to touch the broken down cesspool you call the USA. It is self-destructing faster and more creatively than anything any enemy could devise. Thanks for that. Terribly entertaining.
Your conviction that anyone is interested in anything but your quick demise and departure for the planet is the narcissism of the thwarted rapist.

          • Kennethllindsy

Nobodies perfect. It is kinda weird how Russian journalists and politicians are always getting shot though. Or thrown from windows..

          • Franz Kafka

I did not know that Hastings, Rich, The Kennedys and so many others were Russian.

          • Kennethllindsy

            PizzaGate!!!

    • Bob

A Russian Lieutenant General was identified and actively targeted in field outside Dier Ezzore – that is very suspiciously precise for the low-end-tech capacity of ISIS – it required either extreme luck or sophisticated surveillance intelligence. Principle of Occam’s razor suggests when confronted with two explanations, the simplest explanation with least piling on of assumptions is most plausible …lending to – sophisticated surveillance intelligence.

      • Kennethllindsy

The mortar attack was upon the Command Center.

It would be unreasonable assume that ISIS & FSA do not have spies on the SAA and through out the region.

Occams Razor dictates that is by far the simplest most likely explanation.

        • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Precision guided ordinance is the most likely cause and that is the simplest explanation.

          • Kennethllindsy

Every single reliable source has said mortor attack.

          • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

The Mortar round was from new US mortar round operated by an IDF team, spies are also being caught in the region some even believe that a predator could deliver a similar strike.

        • Astar Roth

You’re just one ugly troll here, and you know that.

        • Bob

Actually, your proposed spy theory requires the piling-on of a whole raft of variable assumptions – that these spies exist, that they knew presence of Russian high end officer, they had ability to accurately target, etc, etc. That is a whole lot of supposition, which is essentially the very opposite of the principle of Occam’s Razor. That is, we all categorically know the US actually has sophisticated tracking and surveillance means – and can easily pass that information directly into the field – ergo the simplest explanation is clear.

          • Kennethllindsy

Spies have been used in warfare for thousands of years.

Jericho was taken by Joshua & the Israelites 3,400 years ago with help of spies.

An invading force of foreign Iranians, Afghans, Palestinians and Russians into Sunni Dez will have create plenty of spies in the populace.

The mortor* shelling could have been from one to 5 miles away.

As SAA forces have failed to take Saqr Island; much of Dez remains under ISIS fire control.

*in WW2 most casualties caused by Germans were from Mirror Attacks. They are very effective weapons.

You may want to see counseling for your dissociative disorder. There should be mental health professionals in your region willing to help.

  • jhon malakiat

so what are you waiting for, russian? crush isis and his supporters … even if their supporter is usa.. the world suppport you..

  • DJ Double D

Why would they be waiting until US gives them permission to destroy these terrorists? Stop complaining, just destroy them. That’s what you are there to do. Your American friends don’t listen to you, they never do.

  • goingbrokes

Interesting! So these attacks were launched from the at-Tanf area, and the insurgents found safe routes, with satellite intel and drones, and so managed to avoid SAA patrols. SOF type of warfare – hey wait, US has SOF operating from at-Tanf. Could that be a coincidence?
