Russian Defense Ministry Denies Two Russian Soldiers Being Taken Prisoner By ISIS

FILE IMAGE: mil.ru

The Russian Ministry of Defense has refuted allegations that two Russian soldiers were taken prisoner in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province, saying that all soldiers were accounted for, TASS reports.

“There have been no incidents linked with any capture of prisoners or entailing losses among Russian servicemen either in the province of Deir ez-Zor [Deir Ezzor] or in any other Syrian province,” the ministry said on October 3.

The mass media reported earlier that the ISIS-linked Amaq news agency had posted a video featuring two Russian soldiers that had been allegedly captured prisoner by ISIS.

The Amaq news agency had previously claimed ISIS killing one Russian soldier and taking two soldiers prisoner near Deir ez-Zor on September 28. The Russian Ministry of Defense had refuted those claims back then as well.

On September 24 Russian Lieutenant general Valeriy Asapov was killed during an ISIS bombardment near Deir ez-Zor. The Ministry of Defense reported on the fact the same day.

Than who is on the pictures from previous article, Santa Claus ?

    • slayern2

      Security contractors obviously.

    • Jens Holm

Not same beard and much older.

  • Mountains

This really makes Russia come off really bad in this whole ordeal. Why deny your own soldiers and men like that. Bizarre indeed

    • Alex

Maybe because they don’t work for the army but rather for a pmc ?,You re bizarre.

    • Harry Smith

According to the Russian Spring, those two are volunteers, who came to Syria on their own to fight ISIS. One of them is member of Cossack unit.

  • I knew those two Uzbek looking mopes weren’t Russian! LOL. Likely a couple deserters that Daesh thought they could get propaganda value out of back shooting or head cutting them on youtube.

  • dutchnational

On internet the one without the beard is being identified as a (at some time) russian soldier and a picture of him being inspected by Putin is available on the internet.

    • Alex

Obviously he was in the military before he became a pmc

      • dutchnational

That is quite possible. Many pmc are former soldiers, of any country.

  • Melotte 22

They seem to be Russians, not members of Russian military but rather individuals/contractors/volunteers.

    • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Think they are engineers Syria has been trying to repair a lot infrastructure in the area. Towers and what definitely not PMC but actual workers.

  • Zainab Ali

it must a very desperate move by zio satanic terrorists to remain sane and victorious to boost their evil morale – cos like the russian led coalition said -the collapse of isis is very near

The twit cannot verify anything, one of the two “may” be cossack involved with Donbass events, not very definitive. I suppose cossacks do have beards and are on occasion involved with things Don.

      • Tudor Miron

First of all those twits are written by well known Russia hater (Ukro nazi) and thats simply a pile of BS.

    • Valery Grigoryev

PMC’s were acting in Syria much before the beginning of the Russian military involvement.
Some of their members were even condemned for that in Russia (unresolved interference).

My information is that Russian Lieutenant general Valeriy Asapov was killed by a US MQ9 Reaper drone. However the official news about the cause has been down played to an ISIS mortar shell to prevent a direct military confrontation between Russia and the US. Another incident was the sinking of the Russian Typhoon class nuclear submarine the Kursk by the US in 2000. Even in that case Putin opted to tone down the truth even by sacrificing the crew of the Kursk who could have been saved but could have revealed the truth, to prevent direct war with the US. There are many other instances when the US for example decided to make target practice out of Russian rockets with GLONAS satellites while testing their ship borne THAAD missile complex. Even here Putin again averted direct conflict with the US by claiming that the failure to deliver the satellites into orbit was due to technical problems. Video footage posted on UTube clearly showed a missile strike one of the Russian rockets while in its booster phase. However in all of these cases above, apart from the latest incident, the US somehow suffered similar so called accidents after just a short while of those suffered by Russia.

        mortar

        • Solomon Krupacek

          yes

    • Valery Grigoryev

Kursk is not Typhoon class submarine, it is assault cruise missile ‘aircraftcarrier hunter’.
And what you’ve said about its tragedy is absolute fake. I know actual reason, as my close relative was a member of the investigation commission. And the US haven’t any relation to the explosion.

    • Tudor Miron

Deo Cass, the more I read your posts the more obvious it is that you’re zio troll who’s real intent here is spreading BS, distracting and disinforming SF readers. Disquiesed as pro Suria and anti NWO all you actually do is ridiculing Russian leadership. Here I asked you a couple of questions https://southfront.org/300-isis-members-including-7-commanders-killed-in-russian-airstsrikes-in-euphrates-valley/ but you kind of missed it.

      • Jens Holm

If troll, its a very low level.

        • Tudor Miron

Have you seen one of high level? Me – not yet.

          • Jens Holm

Thats kind of my point. You get cheated or almost – not knowing it.

    • Jens Holm

Kursk wasnt sunked by US at all. It exploted by itself. How dare You.

  • Kennethllindsy

More weak propaganda by Russia, which has made several ludicrous claims the past few weeks. Obviously the 2 prisoners are Russian, whether they be Regular RF Army or PMC supporting Russian Army makes no difference.
It is also known that dead Russian General Asparov was real commander of Dez force. And 3 Russian Colonels & translator died in same attack.
Lucky for Syrians that Tiger Forces were able to beat back ISIS counterattack on Palmyra Dez Road that killed over reported 300 Hezbollah & SAA, many in buses during transit as shown by gruesome videos.

    • Solomon Krupacek

they are from ukraine, you propaganda!

      • Kennethllindsy

No way to spin it, even if UA Russian PMC Or UA Russian soldiers they were working with Russia. As time goes on Russian casualties will keep growing….

        • Kennethllindsy

Think about it, during Gulf War 2 the 178,000 US Army could never take & hold Arab tribal lands in Anbar. US bribed them $30 billion during the Surge.

        • Tudor Miron

And you’re drooling in anticipation :) What a scum!
But I will tell you one thing – Syria will be liberated despite all the dirty efforts by US/US/Israel snakeheads. You zio trolling would not help preventing it.

          • Kennethllindsy

Try not to be so lazy and do a little research. By now you would have seen the pictures of the 2 soldiers wearing Russian uniforms.
Brave Russian soldiers defeated the Mongols, Turks, Poles, Napoleon & the Nazis.
Instead of denying them, the Kremlin should have sent the Spetnaz to rescue them.
            Shame.

          • Kennethllindsy

Also, if you had ever read any of my posts on twitter, discuss or anywhere else you would have seen that I have not been anti Syrian or Anti Russian; so your name calling is inappropriate.

          • Kennethllindsy

Also, Kremlin should send 2 armored brigades & 10,000 Chechnyans to Deir Ezzor instead of trying to do it on the sly with Wagner PMC & Iranians & Hezbollah.
Russia has been fighting devil jihadis is for 30 years now, the Russian people would support taking action.

          • Jens Holm

            Spoiler.

      • BMWA1

the twi(ter) thing looks less than definitive, one ‘may’ be Don cossack.

  • Jens Holm

There are pictures of 2, which could be russians.

  • FlorianGeyer

The Russian defence ministry is stating the truth but I do feel that a statement of concern from the Russian government with regard to the welfare Russian citizens abroad should be made.
