The Center-2019 strategic command and staff exercise will take place in Russia between September 16th and 21st. Nearly 130 thousand people, more than 20 thousand units of military equipment and weapons and about 600 aircraft will be involved in the Center-2019 exercises.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the exercise itself is of such a nature that it supposes that the heads of the participating countries will be in attendance and will hold discussions.
Along with Russian leaders, others in attendance will include representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, China and Pakistan.
“The presence of the heads of state and defense departments of the countries participating in the exercise is presumed,” said Shoigu.
“I emphasize that Center-2019 is not directed against other countries and that the opposing side refers to conditional states that contribute to the spread of terrorism,” RIA Novosti quoted Shoigu as saying.
He noted that “the dates, the number of troops, weapons and military equipment, as well as the design of the exercises, have been brought to interested persons and representatives of the military-diplomatic corps.”
Separately, in regard to the International Army Games 2019, which took place between August 3rd and 17th, Sergei Shoigu said that more than 70 records were broken by the contestants, while 40 of them were set by Russian service members.
“A few words about the fifth Army International Games, which ended on August 17. Over 70 records were set during the competition, 40 of them belong to Russian servicemen,” said the head of the Ministry of Defense.
He noted that the top five teams included Russian partners in the CIS – Kazakhstan, Belarus and Uzbekistan.
“Chinese soldiers are in second place. Russia won the champion title for the fifth time,” Shoigu emphasized.
“Foreign colleagues are already submitting applications for participation in the Army 2020 and proposals for holding tournaments at their training grounds. We believe that this form of cooperation has great potential. We will continue to develop it,” the defense minister added.
Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Army General Valery Gerasimov said that graduates of the military academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation must be prepared to conduct wars and armed conflicts of a new type.
“Graduates of the Academy of the General Staff should be prepared to conduct wars and armed conflicts of a new type using classical and asymmetric methods of action, have the skills of analytical work and the ability to make innovative decisions,” Gerasimov said.
According to him, “the training process will certainly be built taking into account the development of the military-political situation in the world, the experience of using Russian armed forces in modern military conflicts, including in the Syrian Arab Republic, and the peculiarities of international military cooperation in the system of ensuring global, regional and national security.”
Gerasimov noted that “this is due to the further development of the principles of warfare based on the coordinated application of military and non-military measures with the decisive role of the armed forces.”
“Therefore, we are reviving the traditions of advanced training for senior personnel of the operational and strategic level – commanders of the troops of military districts, fleets, their deputies, heads of central bodies of military command, commanders of associations of arms and military branches,” Army General Valery Gerasimov noted.
