Russia is ready to work on the issue of safely returning refugees from the Rukban camp located in the US-controlled al-Tanf zone to their homes, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on August 4.

“The point at issue was that the Russian side is ready to negotiate the issue of ensuring safety for refugees from the Rukban camp located in the US-controlled Al-Tanf zone and creating required conditions for their return home, with the Syrian authorities,” the military said.

According to the ministry, Russia has also proposed to negotiate on humanitarian issues, including the situation in Raqqa, and other problems for returning to peaceful life across Syria. These efforts should neutralize attempts by terrorists to recruit refugees, the ministry added.

The Russian side has repeatedly blamed the US for a poor humanitarian situation in the al-Tanf zone in southeastern Syria. The Russian military has also said that ISIS cells are using the area near the US garrison in al-Tanf to hide there and to carry out raids against target sin the government-held area.
