Russia’s Rostec State Corporation has increased the production of tactical ballistic missiles for 9K720 Iskander systems, Rostec First Deputy Director General Vladimir Artyakov revealed in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel on December 19.
The decision to increase production is apparently meant to support the ongoing Russian special military operation in Ukraine.
“High-precision systems are working effectively, destroying infrastructure on that territory. It is about our famous Iskander system. It is effective enough and works coherently, with a high degree of accuracy and reliability. It must be said here that we are significantly increasing [the production] of launchers and munitions,” Artyakov said.
The Iskander system can launch a variety of ballistic and cruise missiles. Artyakov was most likely talking about the main armament of the system, the 9M723 quasi-ballistic missile that has a range of nearly 500 kilometers.
The 9M723 has several different conventional warheads, including a cluster munitions warhead, a fuel–air explosive enhanced-blast warhead, a high-explosive fragmentation warhead, an earth penetrator for bunker busting and an electromagnetic pulse device for anti-radar missions. The missile can also carry nuclear warheads.
The maneuverable missile is guided by a GLONASS-aided inertial navigation system. It can be also equipped with an optical seeker with a digitized scene-mapping area correlator system for terminal guidance.
The Russian military has been using the Iskander missile system to hit high-value military targets, like gatherings of manpower and equipment, deep in Ukraine’s territory since the beginning of its special military operation with much success.
Iran is also increasing their production of their dreaded Dorito drones and the soon to debut ballistic missiles.
It’s a good thing the US is sending Patriots to Ukraine.
Patriots aren’t designed to intercept the Iskander ballistic missile, but Russia will use them to neutralize the Patriot launchers.
How is that a good thing? The Patriot has a habit of picking the wrong target. The US always sends its junk abroad.
Depends on who sends more, first, faster, reliably, efficiently and economically. Remind me how much a patriot costs, how long it takes to train, how vulnerable to strikes on its way to the warzone is and how US personnel are forbbiden from directly being involved inside Ukraine. None of that applies to unhindered Iranian supplied weapons going to Russia via the Caspian Sea and air space and IRGC operators inside Russia.

NATO/ U.S Military stockpiles are not the same, they’re leaving themselves defenseless all in a vain attempt to destroy Russia.
Russian is one country; Nato is alliance of 30 countries. Russia building its weapons stockpiles fast but when 30 countries are working together could build faster especially because NATO not at war like Russia. I live in a NATO country and in my country’s parliament there is an argument about which weapons should be bought to replace those sent to Ukraine.
We lack most modern weapons and hope that the US and Israel can sell us what we need, in time.
