Russia has deployed a state-of-the-art S-350E medium-range surface-to-air missile system, the Russian pro-government media outlet Rusvesna reported on Thursday citing a military source.
According to the report, the system arrived Syria’s port of Tartus in September and then was deployed in the Masyaf area in Hama province. The newly deployed system was allegedly included in the integrated, multi-layer, air defense network that Russia had emplaced in the country.
Rusvesna also provided a photo that was intented to confirm deployment of the system in Styria:
The S-350E Vityaz is a highly mobile defense system. It can carry up to 12 vertically launched missiles. The system is developed to provide point defense against precision attacks and defense suppression weapons.
Such deployment could be possible because Russia tests various weapons systems in Syria on a cosntant basis. However, a photo provided by Rusvesna does not look like it has been made in Masyaf [It’s a mountaneous area].
