Russia Banned From 2018 Olympics, Clean Athletes May Compete Under Neutral Flag

Sputnik/ Anton Denisov

The Russian state-run news agency Sputnik reports (source):

The International Olympic Committee has ruled on Tuesday to suspend the Russian Olympic Committee immediately. The IOC’s decision follows a probe into the country’s alleged “systematic doping manipulation.”

The International Olympic Committee has ruled on Tuesday that a special commission will select clean Russian athletes who will be able to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea’s Pyeongchang.

The IOC has listed the criteria for the sportsmen:

  • Athletes must not have been disqualified or declared ineligible for any Anti-Doping Rule Violation.
  • Athletes must have undergone all the pre-Games targeted tests recommended by the Pre-Games Testing Task Force.
  • Athletes must have undergone any other testing requirements specified by the panel to ensure a level playing field

These clean athletes “will compete with a uniform bearing this name and under the Olympic Flag. The Olympic Anthem will be played in any ceremony.”

Thomas Bach, the IOC President, has commented on the decision:

“As an athlete myself, I feel very sorry for all the clean athletes from all NOCs who are suffering from this manipulation [alleged doping]. Working with the IOC Athletes’ Commission, we will now look for opportunities to make up for the moments they have missed on the finish line or on the podium.”

The Committee decided “not to accredit any official from the Russian Ministry of Sport for the Olympic Winter Games.” In addition, the Russian Olympic Committee was obliged “to reimburse the costs incurred by the IOC on the investigations and to contribute to the establishment of the Independent Testing Authority (ITA) for the total sum of USD 15 million, to build the capacity and integrity of the global anti-doping system.”

Following the publication of the 2016 McLaren’s report on doping violations in Russia, the IOC established two disciplinary commissions to decide on appropriate sanctions. The first commission, led by Denis Oswald, was tasked with re-verifying doping probes of Russian athletes from 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. The other one, headed by former President of Switzerland Samuel Schmid, focused on allegations of a state-sponsored doping system in Russia.

The Russian national team has been deprived of first place in the medal count at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games following the IOC’s decision to strip Russia of another two gold medals.

Politics at play again affecting the Olympics. Once again we hear accusations against Russia and as usual, there’s never any evidence and of course the Russian athletes can participate, provided as long as Russia hands over $50 million dollars (blackmail). The anti-Russian hysteria promulgated by the US has permeated sports. One wonders where this will end.

    • Thegr8rambino

they should host their own version of the olympics and invite all countries willing to be friends with russia and its allies

      • TiredOfBsToo

That’s a tough one given the origination of the Olympics. I love the $50 million demanded for a bogus investigation which managed to not produce any evidence. Russia should demand evidence that would stand up in a court of law and not some bogus geopolitical kangaroo committee, intent on serving their masters at the Empire, before turning over any money.

Russia should also demand that ALL athletes from ALL participating countries be forced to go through the same demanding testing that Russian athletes have had to go through. I’m sure there would be many athletes that would fail the drug tests.

        • Ridiculous comment, The Russian Olympic would be a joke. Only North Korea would be stupid enough to participate, if of course Russia handles transportation costs. It would be called Doping Olympic with Putin first and life president.

          • TiredOfBsToo

Good of you to post your idiocy on this site. I’ve seen few comments that match your level of ignorance and idiocy, but keep up the good work, the rest of us need a good laugh from time to time and you’re priceless for production of such….. thanks.

          • Ahhh…a Russki bear just got his claws clipped, listen commie, the only idiot here is you who has not bothered to do a little research to get the whole picture on this Russian doping scandal, you need to adjust your tin foil hat, it is a little tight, it is stopping blood from going into your pea sized brain.

          • TiredOfBsToo

More stupidity…. in case you didn’t hear, Russia isn’t communist anymore, hasn’t been since the ’90s. You know what they say about people like you… “those who keep their head in the sand have their a*s in the air. That about sums you up!

          • So what are they now? Democratic? Don’t make me spill my coffee muppet! in addition do you know North Korea proudly calls herself democratic? Idiots like you need a kick to the head and another round of education, the one you clearly had was bigus, you should sue your teachers, they just made you more dumb!

      • You all pro-Russians commenters are all idiots, Russia is known to dope its athletes, Sharapova was caught, she paid the price, so the whole world is now against Russia? give me a break, pleasssssse!

        • TiredOfBsToo

hahahahah hahahahah keep up the stupidity, I personally enjoy your ignorance or is that just plain stupidity. You make a good jester.

          • What stupidity/ignorance please do tell??? Didn’t Russia host Olympics some few years back??? If the west truly takes this as politics would Russia be allowed to host it? If you have nothing to respond to than your tin foil hat response on some wild accusations about the World against Russia then you are the most stupid of stupids and carry the crown of the most ignorant stank to stink up the internet.

          • TiredOfBsToo

hahahahah hahahahaha hahahaha Love your pointed hat.

          • As expected, an empty barrel makes the loudest noise.

          • TiredOfBsToo

hahahaha hahahahaha hahahahah… You’re proof positive.

          • You are the proof, look at this empty skank!

  • TiredOfBsToo

The politics of the whole thing was designed to stir up trouble in Russia in an upcoming election year and one can take a guess as to which country would order such things. Interesting how athletes from ‘western’ countries that actually dope, evidence provided, are allowed to continue to compete. Geopolitics at it’s hypocritical best!

    • Muriel Kuri

The US heavily lobbied for these results. They must be afraid to compete under normal circumstances. These games will not designate a true winner because some of the best athletes will be unable to compete. I wonder how the ‘winners’ of the medals will feel, knowing in their hearts that they won unfairly – or will they even care?

    • You have any proof of western state doping?, lets have it, post it here! Or go bury your head in the desert sand!

  • Tudor Miron

Olympic Committee is showing that independent its not about them. They do depend dearly on tv money and sponsors and those explained what to do. Plympic committee is playing dangerous games – Russia is too big to ban in without any real evidence.
But we can take a punch and we would not bow to anglo – zio scum. Every athlete that goes to olimpics under neutral flag is simply a traitor of his Motherland.

    • Solomon Krupacek

miron, miron, you know, you lied now.

such liar will not enrichmkent russia, your new homeland.

      • Tudor Miron

Shlomo… what the hell are you barking about?

        • Gary Sellars

          Ignore Shlomomon… he’s masturbating again…

          • Solomon Krupacek

little satan, go to the hell! :DDDD

        • Solomon Krupacek

you were englishman, then moldavian äyour name is really romanian), now russian.

          • Tudor Miron

Shlomo, if you hope that I get tired when you keep asking about my origins (this is 5th or 6th time) and would not answer than keep up your iterations. You get the same answer – I’m Russian of Moldavian nationality, born in CCCP.

    • Graeme Rymill

“Every athlete that goes to olimpics under neutral flag is simply a traitor of his Motherland.” Is it to be the firing squad for these athletes then Miron? Some Russians seem keen for a return to the good old days under Stalin:

“Rodchenkov should be shot for lying, like Stalin would have done,” said
Leonid Tyagachev, who was the head of Russia’s Olympic Committee from
2001 to 2010 and remains its honorary president. He made the remarks in
an interview with a Russian radio station.

That must be what “due process” means in Russia…..

      • Tudor Miron

Little Rymill troll is up here again fantasizing about what others think or want to do :)
No shlomo, Russians killing Russians like at the start of 19th century is a finezio idea but got over it. What I mean when saying traitors of their Motherland is that they should be excluded from national team (if he himself decided to compete for himself and not for his country) and he should not enjoy free training, facilities, transportation that is paid from taxpayers money. They didn’t brake any law if they compete under neutral flag but they lost the privilege to get state support in their athletic career. That’s about it – on personal level everyone should treat them as his heart is telling him to – within the law (i.e. no violence or anything like that).

        • Solomon Krupacek

the ministry organized these ugly things with doping

  • BL

By doing this the Jews and the Americans expose the fact that they are in complete control of the Olympics and have obviously been cheating in their own favor for years. I’m willing to bet that many US athletes are on drugs but get a silent pass from Olympics Committee while all the competitors are heavily monitored.

  • Thegr8rambino

who cares? russia is better than competing against these other doped up scums

    • Solomon Krupacek

      you became blind megatroll.

      • Thegr8rambino

        Haha what??

    • So many commies here, Russia has been known to dope its players, they should be banned for life!

      • Thegr8rambino

Why should I believe u?? U should be banned from this website and reality for life!!!

        • You should believe IOC then, even Russian officials have accepted silently they where caught doping Russian athletes, Remember Sharapova? Yep, she grew up in USA but represents Russia and she was also caught doping. Now with all this facts, who do you believe? Russian government or IOC?

  • Solomon Krupacek

It is very sad, that the creativity of russians is used only in such unimportant fields. Instead of master dopping programs they could develope new therapy or new medicamnets. Russians never knew, what is really important.

    • Alex

That’s the creativity of the western “independent” investigation, ala Colin Powell style, now go back to clean toilets, thinking just isn’t for you.

      • Solomon Krupacek

look, russian, DDR, china were the 3 best in doping.

        • Alex

That’s according to the western propaganda,Salamander, in reality it’s the good old usa.

          • Solomon Krupacek

no western propaganda. this is truth.

          • Alex

Of course, lol, take a look at their female gymnasts bigger than males, they also don’t need to hide, they can pay the officials lol , like with anything else, or scare them into submission.

    • Gary Sellars

Fuck off lying shlomo. You know there is no “state sponsored doping” program and that its all based on the testimony of liar Rodchenko, yet you still bleat your bullshit… just disgraceful

      • Solomon Krupacek

hahaha, do you think, if you will comment my opinion in such style, will me affect? :DDDDD

  • LR captain

    fun fact everyone
the Olympics were brought back by the nazis

  • Starlight

An Empire power allowing another Empire power treat it like a bitch. Does it get any more shaming than this for Putin?

Meanwhile in Blair land, MI5 provides doctors for all British ‘athletes’ who use the ‘medical exemption’ excuse to dope up every one with a chance at a medal. Yes, all Britain’s leading sportsmen and women use ILLEGAL drugs, only they have a “note from mommy” stating it’s OK. You see illegal doping becomes ‘legal’ when a doctor says the illegal drugs are “essential” to treat some condition or other- a fact few here will know.

I’m not being cynical or sarcastic. MI5 provides all leading British sportsbodies with doctors who write prescriptions for performance enhancing drugs- google it.

This ‘exemption’- which Britain placed into the doping rules quite recently, was a trap for Russia. Russian society works differently from the West- corruption in the West is organised by jewish legal experts who identify loop-holes in any contract. In Russia, if people dope it isn’t with the assistance of expert lawyers.

So 99% of leading british athletes dope, and the british government BOASTS about this figure, cos each of them has an excuse from their ‘doctor’. Britain laughs in the face of Russia, where the doping figure is far far far lower than the UK- but no-one there bothers to use the medical exemption trick.

Now let me ask you all a question. Why didn’t this crap happen during the Cold War? Cos Russia said “you eff with us and we’ll eff with you”. But now Russia has ‘muscular vicar’ Putin, whose approach to international ‘warfare’ is to sing “can’t we all just get along”. And this teaches the West to become nastier and nastier and nastier in its methods.

America telling companies in other nations they can’t do business with Russian companies. WTF! America telling Russia it cannot compete in international sports competitions. WTF! America abusing Russian diplomats and Russian journalists in the USA. WTF! America placing weapons designed to fight WW3 right on Russia’s borders. WTF!

Putin is 90% great, but that 10% where he is utterly hopeless looks to damn our planet. Russia, stand up for yourself for god’s sake!

    • Tudor Miron

Don’t worry about us. Without Russia (always within top 3 medals stack) this games are loosing lots of their meaning and Olimpic achievements are loosing their worth – they don’t compete with best athletes (reducing opposition).
The very idea of Olimpics is failing in front of our eyes – but we can get over it. They think that this time they nailed VV and managed to shit on his shoos :) I wander what kind of surprise is in store for them. Another Syria but what exactly that will be?

      • Russkies are cheats, they should be banned for life!

    • Links to facts please, not all people here are that gullible to read garbage comment as facts!

  • John Mason

If the Olympics want to be saved then other countries should boycot the games. Get rid of the US bribed IOC puppets and start again. Goes to show how corrupt the US is by accepting evidence from a criminal, yet again the US public keeps electing criminals into their governments.

  • goingbrokes

Yankeestan and Jooistan trying to throw Russian ELECTION. How about that?

Time to pull the plug on the Olympics. I personally hope they will never happen again. After Lance Armstrong (not Olympics I know), the biggest shameless doping cheat on the planet, USSA has no leg to stand on the issue.

    • What have Jews got to do with IOC? so many idiots on this Nazi news site who find a way to bring Israel to whatever hits their fancy, so many Stalin lovers here too, so pathetic!

      • goingbrokes

Israeli-first’ers control US. Every political decision or policy to tarnish Russian reputation comes from the top. They are of course traitors.

        • Yeah I agree, they also control your Government, China, Russia, Allah, Mohammed and the Saudis are also Jews all controlled by the all powerful Jews, now did I leave anything out, Ahckmed?

      • Tudor Miron

What have jews to do? Nothing other than implementing their talmudic nazi ideology but you have a problem Peter. Goyim know https://youtu.be/WVorwdIFoD8

        • Go fuck yourself Hitler!

          • Tudor Miron

You like this song, don’t you?
I’m Russian of Moldavian nationality, born in CCCP – country that destroyed Hitler and saved people of this planet (including Jews) from fascist slavery. What country and nationality you are Peter?

          • Ahh my bad..not Hitler then, you must be Josef Stalin that killed off 20 million of his people.

          • Tudor Miron

Starting to admit your mistakes? You’re on the right path Peter.
No to your next accusation :)
            1. How exactly the fact that Goyim know about talmudic jeudaism teachings and doings makes me Stalin?
            2. You say that Stalin killed 20 million of his people – mind to elaborate how exactly did he managed to do it? Who, when etc. Who personally was involved in execution, prison system etc.? You’re up to surprising revelations if you attempt to learn more on this matter.
            3. Shy to mention your country and nationality?

          • Nah am not shy, just don’t figure how my nationality is of importance to you, If I did tell you I can promise you would be shocked!

Having said that, The internet is littered with how the great red purge Stalin implemented and his policies led to starvation of his people in the millions, sadly Kim from North Korea is borrowing same acts against his people.

          • Jan Martin

You are a troll. All you can do is insult everyone and call them names. If you don’t like the site, the conversation or the people, why don’t you go and bug people somewhere else?

          • I might be a troll but I am disgusted at the apparent biased stick Israel gets on this Pro-Russian site, what have you got to say pal on Russia stealing Crimea from Ukraine?

    • dutchnational

      Stupide sectarian antisemitic nonsense.

You even admit your own example stinks. Cycling is one of the few druginfested sports that has now been cleansed.

      • goingbrokes

Hahaha. It’s AMERICAN DOPING that stinks!

      • John Whitehot

        “cleansed”

        lololololololololololololololol

  • Lazy Gamer

Olympics is first and foremost not just sports but a tradition to have a break from war. The symbolism is very apparent and ironic here. World thinks that Russia is a war monger OR Russia is gonna be the new target for war. I still remember the 08 olympics with Putin quickly boarding back his plane. lol

  • GRAHL

Sad. I hope the clean athletes pursue their dream of Olympic glory, if they so choose. But in every athlete’s heart a big component of their pride is in seeing their country’s flag flying. So this sucks. I think I’d still go for it though.

  • Doom Sternz

The ban for all Russian athletes is for institutionalised, endemic doping right. Then no athletes should be drug free because its institutionalised and endemic. Unless of course its all a pack of lies, which it is.

  • The war racket in the West eats up eats up a trillion dollars a year — more than is spent on the military by all other countries on the planet, combined, and more than ten times what Russia spends. This racket corrupts everything. It turns ostensibly independent organizations — e.g., the U.N., Amnesty International, the ICC, WADA, the IOC — into instruments of U.S. war-making, and puts human survival on this planet at risk.

The Olympics are meant to serve as an alternative to war. The West has turned them into an instrument of war. Russia and China should demand a return to the Olympic ideals as a prerequisite for participation.

Russia and China should boycott the U.S.-dominated Warlympics and stage massive live-fire military maneuvers near South Korea — maneuvers similar to the massive exercises the U.S. stages each year near North Korea. Then the world would get to see what North Korea is up against and why it has been forced to develop an effective deterrent force.

An explicitly peace-oriented Olympics, open to all, should be held in North Korea. All countries would be allowed to compete, but athletes would be tested as individuals. This would prevent the games from being used to promote war.

  • dutchnational

States and politics corrupting sports again. Assuming IOC indeed proved systematic Russian fraud, the ban of Russia is both correct and a general warming. The next time should Be a ban of two olympic cycles. Eight years.

  • juan carlos ayala

asi como la onu que es el perro de los yanquis el comité olimpico también le mueve la cola

  • John Whitehot

how does this pertain to military subjects?

  • bcbingram

Will athletes who were born male be able to compete with athletes who were born female ??
