On July 29, the remaining fighters of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the towns of Bariqa, Ufaniyah, Turnejeh, Jubata al-Khashab and Beer Ajam in the southern governorate of al-Quneitra handed over more heavy weapons to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
According to Syrian pro-government activists, the new batch of weapons included two upgraded T-55 battle tanks, a BRDM-2 amphibious armored patrol vehicle, a 2S1 Gvozdika 122 mm self-propelled howitzer, a M-46 130mm towed field gun, several vehicles armed with machineguns of different calibers and loads of ammunition.
A day earlier, the fighters handed over a battle tank, a rocket launcher, an artillery piece and several vehicles to the SAA. The handover of these weapons is a part of an evacuation agreement, which was reached on July 27.
The agreement allows hundreds of fighters and their families to withdraw towards the opposition-held areas in the northern governorate of Idlib. Once the withdrawal is over, the entire governorate of al-Qunitra will be under the control of the SAA for the first time since 2011.
