The recent Israeli attack on Syria targeted a drone unit of Lebanon’s Hezbollah and a headquarters of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Al Arabiya TV reported on December 22, citing sources with knowledge on the matter.
The Saudi-owned news channel said that the attack, which took place on December 20, targeted positions of Hezbollah’s Unite 127 in al-Qusayr Air Base in the southern countryside of Homs. The unit is allegedly responsible for manufacturing drones.
The other target of the Israeli attack was reportedly an Iranian headquarters that is located in the heart of the Syrian capital, Damascus.
“Iran is using Syrian infrastructure and residential sites in Damascus to resume its activities,” Al Arabiya quoted its sources as saying.
At least two Syrian service members were wounded as a result of the attack, which was carried out by four Israeli fighter jets armed with guided missiles.
Major General Oleg Yegorov, deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation in Syria, said in a briefing after the attack that the target was “pro-Iranian armed factions.” He also noted that Israel carried out the attack after notifying the Russian military through a special deconfliction mechanism.
Al Arabiya report is yet to be verified. Satellite images, which will likely be released within a few days, will provide more details on the recent Israeli attack.
Israel stepped up its attacks on Syria this year in an attempt to mount more pressure on Iran and its allies. Tel Aviv wants to prevent Iran from manufacturing advanced weapons in the country, or moving such weapons from there to Hezbollah in neighboring Lebanon.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin says Moscow is after a potential diplomatic settlement with Israel of the war in Ukraine.
