Putin Declassifies Russian Special Forces Soldier's Act of Heroism in Syria

Sputnik/ Grigoriy Sisoev

The Russian state-run news agency Sputniknews reports (source):

Lance-corporal Denis Portnyagin, when ambushed with his unit by the terrorist group Daesh [ISIS] in Syria, was ready to blow himself up with a grenade to keep from being taken captive.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declassified some details of the heroic deeds of lance-corporal Denis Portnyagin in the fight with Daesh* (ISIS) terrorists in Syria, which he reveals in the new film “PUTIN.”

In August, 2017, close to the strategic city of Akerbat, a 4-5 man Russian special forces unit responsible for calling in airstrikes joined a group of Syrian government fighters, when they were unexpectedly attacked by Daesh* militants. While some Syrian forces retreated and all the other members of his unit were injured, including the commander and the second officer, the youngest unit member, lance-corporal Denis Portnyagin, took a machine gun and fended off nearly 40 attacking terrorists, killing 14 of them. After bullets hit his helmet and his weapon, he continued to fight with grenades. According to Putin, when the threat that they would take him prisoner was all but assured, Portnyagin prepared to blow himself up and drew their fire. Mortar fire could block the attackers; after the airstrike, another Russian unit joined them and evacuated Portnyagin’s group.

In December, 2017, Denis Portnyaging was awarded a Gold Star and the title of Hero of the Russian Federation, the state’s highest honor. The Ministry of Defense didn’t give any more information, other than saying that he was awarded for fulfilling special tasks. In the latest interview Putin expressed hope that Portnyagin will be promoted.

“He’s a hero. If he wasn’t, then who would be. And there are many such people in our military,” Vladimir Putin said.

“PUTIN” is a new film about the current Russian president, who is seeking a fourth term in office. For two hours, Vladimir Putin tells his campaign press-secretary and the film’s creator about his family, the crucial events of his term as well as his basic views and beliefs. Prominent political figures from Russia and abroad, as well as guests who knew Putin long before his political career, share their perceptions of the Russian president.  A second part will be released later.

May Gog help you liberate the world from the despicable dirt that is trying desperately to enslave us all. A victory in Syria is a victory for humanity! Thank you! God bless you!

There’s should be more details of this in Russian forums.

If I read this correctly the accompanying Syrian troops withdrew. Dose not
sound very good to me. Rather makes me think of being left in the lurch.

    • ALI

      Article says ‘some’ SAA troops…

    • Tudor Miron

It is what it is. After all, no one expected SAA to become what they are now. When Russia answered official help request from legitimate Syrian overnment the state of SAA was… close to total desintegration.

    • as

Some withdrew because heavy fire. You see when you’re under a fierce battle you’ll rarely have a clear grasp of the whole situation around you that there’s always a possibility that either you’re left behind, left someone behind, encircled by enemies, or the last man standing. The story have point out that some of their units ‘noticed’ their predicament just in time. Were they’re unresponsive they’d think they’ve already succumbed and written off as KIA.

It’s common to find out later that your comrades situated close have given in and passed away only once the battle concluded.

      • paul ( original )

Yes I don’t have any specific knowledge about the circumstances here. It
could be that the situation demanded the response you describe.

Man the movie “Putin” sounds so much like the story of Trump, and even Obama. This is just like our presidents are, rising up from the people. The way Obama had to sleep with a pump shotgun by his bed… oh wait that was Putin… or the way Trump was considering taking a part time job as a taxi driver… oh wait that was Putin too… or Putin sitting by while listening to a duck story as the dark state attacked his country… oh wait that was Bush… We American people aren’t really hostile towards Putin, we’re jealous Russia has such a leader.

    • FlorianGeyer

I only wish that Britain was served by a person of such qualities a President Putin.
All we have had for many decades are charlatans, Zionist zealots and fools.

      • paul ( original )

They are not just charlatans, that might only make them incompetent and
indifferent leaders. Rather they actively work towards the
destruction of the English. I think you know what I am referring too.
The word traitor is insufficient to describe these people.

        • FlorianGeyer

It is indeed and ‘these people’ were once banished from England for over 200 years and they only slithered back after they funded the Parliamentarians in the English civil war.

        • dontlietome

I was going to use the word “Psycopaths”, but it alone is not sufficient in the description of a hubris driven “spawn” who worship all that is plainly evil. The Kazarians were their fore-bearers, and their genealogy and penchant to do no good runs like acid thro’ their veins………………

      • russ

I kind of had hope for Nigel Farage, but there are some discrepancies that are kind of shaky. Here in the US we are blanked… Well Trey Gowdy and Tulsi Gabbard from Hawaii are pretty good.

        • FlorianGeyer

Yes, a I fully agree that Trey Gowdy and Tulsi Gabbard are excellent.

      • russ

Russia has Putin and Lavrov… seems kinda unfair… Do the have brothers(or sisters)?

        • FlorianGeyer

Britain has Theresa May and Boris though. What could possibly go wrong :)

          • russ

In the world of doppelgangers Boris’ is Nicky Halley, the resemblance is uncanny. I can’t tell them apart.

      • Tudor Miron

I’m sorry Florian, but it’s much longer than many decades. We also had our share of traitors but is it land or something other – time after time we were blessed with a leader that actually cared about this land and its people. However strange this may sound (due to all zio lies invented to demonize them) – Grozniy and Stalin and now Putin.

        • velociraptor

and piotr velikiy? ekaterina? you dont know nothing about your history. stay at your car toys, little child

          • Tudor Miron

Romanov’s were different. Even their name says a lot – those that you mentioned did great things too but they were different.

          • velociraptor

But just these two made russia great.

So, russians need foreigner over them. like georgian Stalin :P

  • Justin

They only breed real men in russia! Im from Australia and ive been their twice! If anyone gets upset by this comment, go and see for urself! Life isnt a movie! Russians are hard people.
