The Project 23900 is the newest class of Russian amphibious assault ships. This class was designed as a replacement for Mistral-class helicopter carriers ordered from France. However, Paris broke the contract and refused to deliver the two built warships due to the conflict in Ukraine.

Actually it was Russia, which broke something.

      1. HiaNd says:

        It is year 2022.
Go to “Russian navy” Wikipedia and you will find the year scheduled for finishing that ship

        1. occupybacon says:

          No, I trust this site.

          1. HiaNd says:

            good…than it must be 20226 for you…

          2. occupybacon says:

Yeah, that’s the year when Russia will have a real aircraft carrier.

          3. HiaNd says:

US is safe for the moment….unless of course China decides to invade…

          4. occupybacon says:

Hah! They are afraid to invade Taiwan. Which is the real China btw.

          5. HiaNd says:

Why would China invade their own territory?
Taiwan will fall right into their lap like ripe pear …by itself …. effortlessly.
Since ever growing Chinese navy will be everywhere.

          6. occupybacon says:

Mao planned Taiwan invasion for years but his first attempt failed miserably in 49. Since then China is waiting for Taiwan to fall right into their lap.

          7. HiaNd says:

All that was before Nixon and Kissinger have decided to transfer all the industry and know how to China to make super power out of hungry nation.
Today even Taiwan is minor challenge for Chinese army.
The much bigger problem is triggering of the world war with that invasion.
And why would China do that now if they are world industrial Super Power second to none?
They are getting richer every year and their army keeps getting stronger while US and the west are dwindling away.
China is for Status quo and time is on their side.

          8. occupybacon says:

I agree with most of you saying still Taiwan is not going to fall like a pear or apple as they got used to be free and already seen how Beijing treats Hong Kong.

          9. HiaNd says:

One can’t have it both ways.
It was US who established “Might is right” global rule, by rejecting international treaties of sovereignty for every country, established already by Nuremberg trial in 1945.
Aggression, invading countries was considered war crime for which were NAZI’s trailed.
But in last 20 years US – NATO have invaded and agressed so many countries on false accusations (Yugoslavia, Libya, Iraq, Syria, Avghanistan etc.)
All you people do is aggressive wars and you keep accusing others for your own crimes.

Now when China with 1.5 billion population is becoming mighty power they will use the same methods.
As for Hong Kong, that is officially internationally recognized Chinese territory.
They can try separatism for their own peril or emigrate to West.
They are just handful of population.

          10. occupybacon says:

I don’t think that argument wouldn’t convince Taiwan to surender to Beijing :)

          11. MikeH says:

Why not? Mexico has already invaded. The more the merrier.

          12. HiaNd says:

            You have good attitude Mike.

            Good for you.

        2. MikeH says:

          I would assume 2026

          1. occupybacon says:

            Space… The final fronteer

          2. HiaNd says:

You assume right of course. Because Russia is not China, they can’t build aircraft carrier (even smaller one) in year and half.
I was just teasing our over-patriotic “occupy bacon” by deliberately lowering the year.

    1. Lone Ranger says:

      Indeed you are.

    2. HiaNd says:

They had France paying back the penalties to Russia!

How could Russia “broke something” if they have received more money from France than what they have paid to France with the signing of the contract?!?

  2. occupybacon says:

But a real aircraft carrier it’s an outdated weapon meant to terrorise smaller countries.. heh heh heh

    1. Lone Ranger says:

      Indeed.

      1. occupybacon says:

What’s is USA gonna do when mighty Russia will deploy these impressionable vessels in the Gulf of Mexico?

        1. Lone Ranger says:

I dont think Russia is interested in the Gulf of Mexico.

          1. occupybacon says:

How about Anctarctica? Them penguins are slavic traitors.

          2. Lone Ranger says:

Dont overdose on the angel dust :)
            Good morning by the way.

          3. occupybacon says:

Good morning young man. Happy Sunday!

          4. Harry Smith says:

Good morning Lone Ranger and occupybacon! Nice to met you in comments summer Sunday morning. And even nicer nobody is cursing his opponent. Good morning to all!

          5. Lone Ranger says:

Good morning to you too ?

    2. BMWA1 says:

These are just support ships for land forces, including esp. Arctic regions….support to two already deployed brigade-sized units deployed in the northern military region…this was original intent of mistrals now owned by Egypt and supported by Russia…note building location….Kerch…NOT available pre-2014 as it is in Krtim.

      1. occupybacon says:

So will they be used to invade the polar bears?

        1. BMWA1 says:

Access islands in territorial waters etc in polar region obvious chopper utility the land brigades were formed 2010 /2011

    3. Harry Smith says:

It is not about terrorizing, but power projection. And it was said about fighter jets carriers and Carrier Strike Groups. This ship is troops carrier. The tool for maritime descent – you can google what amphibious means. Had to be quite useful in times of war with Georgia in 2008. And after Russian military analyzed the 2008 war they decided to build couple of them. And as Russia ordered it initially in France, indicates that Russian military does not consider it as strategical necessity.

      1. occupybacon says:

Yes, with a Carrier Strike Group, USA can strike almost anywhere, like 80% of the countries maybe, while these two are built to scare only Ukrainians and Georgians.

        1. Harry Smith says:

Not scary. For scaring them there are Kalibrs. Those two ship are for simplify army maritime descents. As I said, if the ships were strategical necessity they never be built outside of Russia.

          1. occupybacon says:

There is no other place Russia could use them, other than Mariupol I guess. Only with a lot if luck like NATO colapsing, on Odessa maybe.

          2. Harry Smith says:

            Ships or Kalibrs?

          3. occupybacon says:

            Landing ships.

          4. Harry Smith says:

Not me neither you are maritime strategist. If admirals decided they need 2 of this kind of ships, that means they know how they will use it.
And if we will speak about Odessa, I have some classmates in there and Russia doesn’t need any descent ship to take control over this city. Most of Odessa inhabitants are Russian speakers and they do remember what nazzis did with house of trade unions. It’s not because they are commies, but because Odessa always had their freaks and when nazzis burned they alive it was like a shock for most of population. So Odessa inhabitants are sit quietly now, like they did under Romanian occupation, but if couple of Russian vessels will guarantee them some kind of protection, they will hang most of nazzis by themselves. In fact, it’s Russia which doesn’t want to take them like Crimea. It’s 3d chess game.
PS when I were child we traveled to Odessa with my family many times at summer vacation. There are a lot of nice beaches like Arcadia. And I do remember the times when anyone who spoke Ukrainian could be bitten because of it by Odessa inhabitants.

          5. occupybacon says:

You know that could have happened already if Odessa was not dirrectly protected by NATO. Mariupol would be a more easy target. Crimea was easy because all the higher ranks deffected to Russia as they were already Russian spies. But odessa will be hard. There Yanukovych had less than 50% from what I remember.

          6. Harry Smith says:

            Ships or Kalibrs?

          7. Harry Smith says:

            Ships or Kalibrs?

          8. occupybacon says:

There is no other place Russia could use them, other than Mariupol I guess. Only with a lot if luck like NATO colapsing, on Odessa maybe.

          9. occupybacon says:

There is no other place Russia could use them, other than Mariupol I guess. Only with a lot if luck like NATO colapsing, on Odessa maybe.

  3. Lone Ranger says:

    Good design.
I would put a few Kalibrs on it too.
    Just in case…
Russia should have never made business with the unreliable frog eaters, they sold out their own country to the nazis in WWII, and now they did it again to the crumbling U.S. Empire.
    10 years wasted…
I would rather trust a Türk than a french and thats pretty telling…

    1. occupybacon says:

By 20223 USA will rule the Galaxy. And more.

      1. Lone Ranger says:

        Very funny…
U.S. will be lucky if they have a country left next year…

        1. occupybacon says:

So you are no more sure that they will colapse?

          1. Lone Ranger says:

            I was being polite…

          2. occupybacon says:

Please don’t generate more suspense for my valves

          3. Lone Ranger says:

You need a calming green tea :)

          4. occupybacon says:

Isn’t that containing small doses of caffeine? You want to kill me, don’t you?

          5. Lone Ranger says:

Only 35mg per cup on avg.
After the coke its very calming trust me :)

          6. occupybacon says:

Then why did I pay for?

          7. Lone Ranger says:

            Think long term…
            You only have one heart…

            And one life

          9. Lone Ranger says:

            And what keeps you alive?
            Bingo.
            Your heart.

          10. occupybacon says:

Thanks doc. I’ll think about replacing coke with Putin.

          11. Lone Ranger says:

            Good man :)

          12. HiaNd says:

            :)

Jameson—“last phase of empire”. Orlov demonstrates that everything is worse in USA than in USSR in the 1980’s…Galtung has employed 15 mathematical indices to predict US empire will collapse in less than 10 years–he required 6 to predict USSR would disintegrate by 1990

      2. cechas vodobenikov says:

durak—your empire will collapse before then

        1. occupybacon says:

If you mean USA will colapse before 20226, very possible. But my Empire is forever.

    2. HiaNd says:

      Good point.

They’ll most probably have few naval Pantsir’s and launcher with Kalibr, Oniks missiles for self defense and dealing with some land targets as well….

Well I don’t know about “trusting Turks”…good luck with that.

  4. MeMad Max says:

    “Expected in 20226”

Thats one hell of a lead/design/construction time lol

    =P

  5. Peter Moy says:

Unfortunately only two of these ships are planned. The Russian Navy could use about seven: two in the Pacific, two in the Black Sea, two in the Baltic and one patrolling up and down the US east coast, based in Cuba.

    1. PZIVJ says:

“and one patrolling up and down the US east coast, based in Cuba.”
That’s just to keep the US guessing as to Russian true intentions, Correct? :D

    2. Pampalon says:

Intriguing streak of thought, I must admit.

    3. Gary Sellars says:

      only 2 for now….
