Russian Soldier Near Manbij Wears Patch Of SDF’s Manbij Militacy Council (Old Photo)

UPDATE 28.12.2018: This is an old photo, which has been actively circulating online in connection with the recent developments in the area of Manbij.

A fresh photo has appeared online showing a Russian soldier with a patch of the Manbij Military Council of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The SDF is a Kurdish-dominated group which controls the area of Manbij as well as most of northeastern Syria.

On December 28, the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which are the core of the SDF, announced that they are inviting the Syrian Army to take control of Manbij to protect it from a possible Turkish invasion.

A group of Russian and Syrian troops were already deployed in the village of Arima, west of Manbij, earlier this week.

Hopefully Russia’s still got their missile cruisers on standby in Tartus – just in case FSA and TFSA jihadis decide to go all out against SAA/Russia/YPG in Manbij… they will be pulverized by Kalibrs :)

    • Prince Teutonic

Cruise missiles are used against stationary objects not against moving targets…

      • Robert McMaster

Most targets tend to move around some so the class of missile used for the always standing still thingees is not so useful,

Good sense at the end about the Kurds’ prospects

  • Redadmiral

The soldier is probably a Kurd travelling on a Russian MP UAZ as a guide

    • Zionism = EVIL

Indeed. That is most likely a liaison guide with Russian forces. That is standard procedure for easy field identification in battle zones.

Wearing full Russian uniform? I doubt it.

Showing that the Russians are in control & Scouting for ISIS-Al-Qaeda-Infiltrators might be another option…and they automatically function as Shield for the Kurds….No one really likes to Kill Russians…for they are well aware of the consequences….

  • Prince Teutonic

Why are Russian soldiers using wood/grass camo in a semi-desert ambient?

    • Tudor Miron

Good question. That’s a standard uniform of Russian MP as well as regular troops. https://youtu.be/0vxmYR6QQkI

For Russians it’s all the same when the temperature is above freezing.,
