On April 1, an official FB account of the NATO released a video entitled “NATO Allies walk together”. The video, released under a hashtag “#WEARENATO”, claims that the miltiary bloc works “to prevent conflcit and preserve peace for nearly one billion people”.
The question arises when did the US-led military organization work to “preserve peace”?
Did it preserve peace in Yugoslavia in 1999 bombing the country without an authorisation from the United Nations Security Council?
Did NATO member states preserve peace intervening in Libya in 2011 and thus turning one of the most stable African states into a terrorist safe haven?
Did NATO member states preserve peace when they were supporting al-Qaeda in Syria in an attempt to overthrow the government of Bashar al-Assad?
Did NATO member states preserve peace when they were directly and indirectly backing the Saudi-led intervention in Yemen, which caused the large-scale humanitarian crisis in the country?
Did NATO member states preserve peace in Afghanistan when the non-stop war has been ongoing since the US intervention in 2001?
Did NATO member states preserve peace in Ukraine when they were providing direct and indirect support to provocations of the Kiev regime, designed in an attempt to fuel tensions in the region?
The list can be continued.
The current situation in the international relations is complicated and all sides blame each other for its destabilization and agressive intentions. However, when some side makes statements or attempts to promote itself as a peacemaker, there should be at least some facts to support such claims.
