Is the “Military Base – allegedly abandoned” the American bases ? or am I confused ?.

    • John Marks

Al-Tanf seems to be the very active ‘black hole’.
Or maybe the real black hole is al-Zuqf, allegedly “abandoned” – to ISIS?

US strategy, or rather tactics, in that region was seriously flawed from the beginning.

US should either have gone for it all out, aiming for regime change, or not gotten involved at all there. Halfway tactics will never work and was plain stupid.

So was and is aiming to ally the US with Islamists. They will always bite the hand that feeds them. Examples all over the world. This is what you get when you let “spooks” set the agenda and policy. Stupid of Obama. Trump inherited the mess and rightly choose to end it.

In the end, the US only got a lot of people killed there.

        • Wahid Algiers

My conclusion is right and a fact. You have none except to protect shady interests of land grabbers who in fact grab your country together with other immigrants too.

        • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Those that came there as volunteers are now prisoners of the Asayish secret police, and those whom oppose the YPG are all on the front lines sent to their deaths with broken equipment. Those are the people you support they even had ambulances and medical personnel to remove the organs, the Jews are helpful in that. They then transport it to Turkey where PKK middlemen wait to make the exchanges for money.

          Your friends not mine.

      Fuck off…. regime-change cock sucker.

      • dutchnational

If, that is IF, you really had read my comment, you would have understood that I never said to favour regime change.

US should, as a strategy, have chosen for one or the other. Not for me to say what they should choose. As they choose neither but worked halfway, they had no strategy at all but onlytactics and flawed tactics too.

As for your sexual preferences, I would prefer you to “enjoy” them with others on sites more suited to your preferences.

US Never had any Strategy … ‘cos they just didn’t have any cards to play with…. After IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN … when even the most fervent Right-Wing US Republican Senators and Congress admitted that going to War in Iraq was a mistake …. When the overwhelming poll results consistently showed that US public had no more stomach for another attempt at regime change …. Knowing fully what happened in Libya and Knowing fully that They were all SECULAR leader/dictators ….

Knowing Fully that if ASSAD was to fall .. then ISIS and Al-Nusra Front will rule like in Mosul …

Only way for a Regime chance is to put boots on the ground …. US ground troops will be literally walking into Jihadist hornet nest … US public will never fall for that and will also never be tricked again … well… until next generation I mean …

    • Lone Wolf

But having said that … You would know that President Trump has very much taken a backseat according to WP .. and that its the Generals who is calling the shots in Syria … Trumps doesn’t seem to show much interest and he doesn’t like Generals telling him what to do either .. so he just lets them be to a certain extent …

So what can the Generals do .. well I think what they are trying to do is Balkenise Syria … that is effectively partition Syria into smaller disparate areas of control thereby mortally weakening ASSAD and his allies … This is the 2nd prize that they can hope for .. This is now also what Israel and US wants … for Syria to be in perpetual conflict so that it will drain Syria and Iran and Hezbollah … many elite Hezbollah and Iranian soldiers have been killed in Syria …this, Israel sees as a weakening of Hezbollah and Iran … which I believe is a fallacy …

Never underestimate how forcefully Israel have been lobbying US for this ..You do know that JARED KUSHNER(Son-in-Law of Trump) is an Orthodox Jew and both his family and BIBI NETANYAHU are very close personal family friends for long long time …

    • Lone Wolf

So what is happening now … I believe US Generals have suddenly armed the YPG to the teeth and under a pretence of Fighting ISIS, which they are doing but also to partition the northern and as much as eastern region as possible along the Euphrates river to deny Iran from having a land corridor all the way from Iran to Lebanon …

I do not know what US Generals have been promising the Syrian Kurds but suddenly Kurds seem to be very Pro US .. and even threatening SAA … but YPG needs to understand that its the US Politicians who delivers or breaks promises not the Generals. US have already said in no uncertain term that they will not support any bid for Independence from the Kurds in the region ..

What the US is doing is like a semi covert operation under the guise of fighting ISIS .. sooner or later Congress is gonna haul their General’s ass in the senate hearings and ask them what are they still doing there … ?

      • dutchnational

The finer points of the US system are beyond me. As long as “the generals” have a free hand given by Trump and Trump remains within his powers, they are free to act.

SDF has stated to want a federal Syria and to be a federal state.

As Assads regime has stated it is debatable, Russia favours it, there seems to be no real problem there as far as I can see. The dispute will be what powers will remain central and what powers will go to the federal states.

As far as the KRG is concerned, I think in the end there will be a compromise.

Stage 1. A free referendum in “disputed areas” in accordance with article 140 of the Iraqi constitution, joining those areas to the KRG
Stage 2. A confederation of three (Shia arab, sunni arab and KRG) sovereign states for the duration of 10 to 15 years.
Stage 3. A referendum in each of the states whether to continue or not after 8 or 13 years. Not continuing meaning full independence. A choice for all three parts.

KRG and Northern Syria can have (in)formal relations on a regional level.

        • Lone Wolf

Well, you are talking about regional politics in Syria and Iraq … unfortunately, US Generals do not care about that. They are belligerent and beyond politics .. at the moment those Generals have shut out their State Department completely ….therefore they have a very myopic view of what is happening on the ground and they have their own score to settle with Syria, Iran, Russia, Hezbollah … LoL … get the drift … ?

As long as US is there actively meddling and bombing etc … fat chance ASSAD and KURDS will have any binding agreement … US will make sure of that … PERPETUAL VIOLENCE IN SYRIA is what they want … They using YPG now … just like they used other Islamist group there before ….

        • DJ Double D

Stolen territories cannot be part of a negotiation. It’s not that Syrian land is just there for anybody (no matter under what pretext) to grab and go as if it is a free candy.

        • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

The SDF is an illegal entity with no legitimate basis and is in violation of international law , but that doesn’t stop their backer the US who supports all these proxies. Seems like the only propagandist is the trolls that come on here they had a wild one to tell about 9/11 2001. Even that was one whopper of a conspiracy which has so far proven to be full of holes and based on unfounded facts and science fiction.

      • Boris Kazlov

Congress gonna haul which ass? Congress is owned lock, stock and barrel by Israel, generals are ready to do Israel’s bidding anytime. Believe in Congress, sure.

    • Barba_Papa

I’m not sure it was spooks who set the agenda. More like politicians who then tasked spooks with the job, because they were too afraid to use direct military intervention instead.

Anyway, it’s good that the US did not intervene directly. Otherwise Syria would be in a bigger mess then it currently is. The only thing that makes any of the rebel groups work together is their hatred of Assad. Remove that and you would have been left with yet another Afghanistan after the fall of the Najibullah regime, slash Libya. Competing factions and warlords, with a steady exodus of refugees and criminal elements coming Europe’s way. Unlike Libya and Afghanistan, Syria at least is salvageable.

      • Daniel

Isn’t building bases, using own soldiers, and heavy bombing, directly intervening?

        • Barba_Papa

But the situation has changed. Neither the politicians, nor the spooks are running the show. They’re all busy trying to get rid of Trump. It’s the generals who are now running the show. The generals want a cold war with Russia, as that is good for business.

          • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

This is about the One ring theory, starting to think Tolkkein stories were more about Geo politics of the time. He was a bit of a political thinker, strategist and understood the world politics as some other writers do. There are those who see the Geo political world as it is, such as Lawrence Watt-Evans has and George RR Martin seems to view.

      • Terra Cotta Woolpuller

There was no Politicians involved but the military which has free reign in this, and had major backing from the Pro US hegemony Policy strategists. Just look up Bernard Henri Levy he has been behind the scenes for a long time in this and is since 1967, he is a member of Middle East Policy Think Tank same as Charles Lister, Hassan Hassan , Bosma Kodmani was even an analyst there these are just a few as they all work together and RET Gen John R Allen who was working on this policy with Patraeus.

I am really hoping the SAA takes control of the Jordanian border equipped with anti-aircraft weapons U.S becomes surrounded completely and no means of airlifting. It will be a killing ground…
