The Afrin Liberation Forces (ALF), which is affiliated with the People’s Protection Units (YPG), announced in an official statement that 40 militants of the so called National Syrian Army (NSA) were killed in the course of the counter-attack. 30 others  were reportedly injured.

“After sustaining heavy loses, the NSA withdrew from the axis of the attack to its back lines … A part withdrew to the town of Kafr Janneh, a part to A’zaz and a part to Marimeen,” the ALF’s statement reads.

The NSA took Kurdish forces by surprise in the afternoon of May 4 and sneaked into Ma’arnaz and nearby positions with support from Turkish special forces. Opposition sources said that the town was full of mines and improvised-explosive devices (IEDs), which played a major role in the NSA’s defeat.

Meanwhile, a source in the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) told the Lebanese al-Mayadeen TV that the army intervened to allow Turkish special forces to withdrew as a “gesture of goodwill” after the Russian mediation. According to the source, Turkish forces were trapped in one of Ma’arnaz’s minefields.

The SAA and few units of the Russian Military Police maintain presence in the city of Tell Rifaat, few kilometers south of Ma’arnaz. The city was shelled by the Turkish military and its proxies after the failure of their attack. However, no casualties were reported.

Turkish-backed militants may make a new attempt to capture Ma’arnaz and its surroundings soon. This would escalate tensions in northern Aleppo further.

Promitheas Apollonious

where you seen propaganda ?

Turkey has bitten off more than it can chew. US agenda is to arm the treacherous Kurds with manpads and make everyone bleed like they did in the Iran-Iraq war. Erdogan should check his ego and leave Syria.

Turkey manhandled the kurds in Afrin and will continue to do so, because asshead is too pussy to do anything himself.

Once Iran abandons asshead, and turns to Turkey and Muslim Brotherhood, then watch the western shit hit the fan.

You can call me Al

Oh please, do grow up and stop spewing excrement.

I was spewing about Imam Ali(as) Iran and even Russia and Turkey more than 10 years ago, and look how far weve come so far, in the news everyday in western faces.

Yes we truly are americas worst nightmare.

I did not realize that this forum also attracted grade 4 special ed students.

Russian propaganda machine south front “kurdish force retreated to allow turkish force to capture Ma’arnaz” while Russians allow turkish forces and their mercineris to capture new areas south of afrin (northern aleppo) in exchange of southern Idlib will be captured by SAA including M4 and M5 highway.
Wondering why should Russia interfering in saving turkish special forces if they are not collaborating in selling syrian lands to seek their imperilaist agenda in middle east.
Note: SAA doesnt show their goodwill to turkey if they do like the writer claim they would not attack turkish observation place south of Idlib at first place.

I think I kind of agree. Informations from there are very difficult to verify

“Meanwhile, a source in the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) told the Lebanese al-Mayadeen TV that the army intervened to allow Turkish special forces to withdrew as a “gesture of goodwill” after the Russian mediation. According to the source, Turkish forces were trapped in one of Ma’arnaz’s minefields.”

Is this statement political Spin or just a lie, I think it’s both.
I think Erdogan withdrew his forces, I don’t think they were forced out, and I think ongoing negotiations between the Kurds, Erdogan and the Kurds was the reason they were withdrawn.
Trump didn’t agree to Erdogan’s demands to put in place a US/Turkish patrolled safe zone, but Putin isn’t as disagreeable to the idea, I think we’ll soon have joint patrols in this area, joint Turkish and Russian patrols that is.
Putin has nearly as much influence on the Kurds as the US has now, I know it looks like the US is holding all the cards as far as the Kurds are concerned, but that’s not the case at all. Putin has nearly as much influence over what the Kurds decide to do next as the US has, and it’s all to do with their long term security.
The US has promised the Kurds long term security but the Kurds aren’t that stupid, they know the US could sell them out in an instant if push came to shove, and Erdogan pushes extremely hard, so they don’t trust the US.
I think Putin’s at the centre of everything too, a finger in every pie so as to speak, meaning he has more say in what can and can’t be achieved by all other parties, Syria/Turkey/US/Iran/Israel. Which now makes him the king maker in Syria, and I think it’s actually got to a point in Syrian now, where nothing at all can happen without Putin’s approval.
First a small safe zone here at Tell Rifaat, but later on who knows what will happen. It looks like Putin’s going to sell off even more of Syria’s territory to Erdogan, or maybe it’s a clean swap for Idlib.

Many must have died there.
