Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed that Israel will prevent Iran from establishing permanent military bases in Syria during an address before the United Nations General Assembly.
“We will act to prevent Iran from establishing permanent military bases in Syria for its air, sea, and ground forces,” Netanyahu said. “Israel will defend itself with the full force of our arms…. Those who threaten us with annihilation put themselves in mortal peril.”
Netanyahu also viwed to include changes to the Iran nuclear deal or to cancel it.
“Change it, or cancel it. Fix it, or nix it,” the prime minister said.
Israel is deeply concerned over the growing influence of “Shia forces” in the Middle East and espeically in Syria. Since the start of 2017, the Israeli leadership has repeatedly tried to find a Russian support to solve its regional problems and to limit the Iranian influence n Syria. However, Tel Aviv has not achieved this goal so far.
