ISIS cells have murdered another elderly man in in the northeastern Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor after accusing him of practicing witchcraft.
The victim, Abdul Razzaq Abdul Majeed, was shot and killed by terrorists in the town of al-Mohamadiyah in southeastern Deir Ezzor on March 8. The region is controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
ISIS bragged about the crime in a statement shred by its news agency, Amaq, on March 10. The group called the victim an “apostate sorcerer.”
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Abdul Majeed was a Sufi. ISIS views Sufism as a threat to its radical Salafist ideology.
ISIS has been carrying out a real-life witch-hunt in the SDF-held part of Deir Ezzor for more than a year now. Last month, the terrorist group’s cells killed a mute 80-year old man after accusing him of practicing witchcraft.
Abdul Majeed will not likely be the last victim of ISIS cells in southeastern Deir Ezzor. Recently, the SDF conducted a large-scale operation against terrorists in the region. However, the region is still far from being safe.
