On August 24, ISIS’ news agency, Amaq, released photos of a recent ambush by the group’s terrorists in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.
The ambush, which targeted troops of the Egyptian Armed Forces, took place near the area of al-Kasadra east of the city of Sheikh Zuweid in northern Sinai on August 18.
ISIS terrorists began their attack by destroying a bulldozer of the Egyptian military with an improvised explosive device. Later, the terrorists targeted Egyptian service members, who moved to evacuate the bulldozer’s driver.
Amaq claimed that several service members were killed or injured in the ambush. However, Egyptian sources didn’t report any losses.
ISIS cells have stepped up their attacks in Sinai since the beginning of the year. The terrorists are carrying out attacks on Egyptian government forces on a regular basis. On August 26, an attack targeted Egyptian troops west of the city of Bir El Abd.
Egyptian forces in Sinai are sustaining losses in ISIS attacks. Nevertheless, the terrorist group’s activity has been so far limited to a small part of the region.
