On January 21, ISIS fighters repelled a joint attack of the NATO and the Afghan Army on their positions in the villages of Jihar Wazi and Mirez in Haska Meyna district of the eastern province of Nangarhar, according to the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq.
Amaq claimed that ISIS fighters killed a US soldier and injured seven Afghan soldiers while they were repelling the attack. However, the NATO didn’t announce that it lost any of its serivce members in the last 24 hours. So, ISIS’ claims are false.
In a separate development, Amaq reported that four fighters of ISIS conducted a hit and run attack against a gathering of Taliban fighters in the village of Jakhma Jghur in the northern province of Jawzjan. According to the ISIS-linked news agency, ISIS killed 14 fighters of the Taliban and injured 20 others in the attack.
Lately, ISIS has been trying to expand its influence outside of its heartland in Afghanstan, Nangarhar province. The group attacks positions of the Taliban in the northern part of Afghanistan away from the NATO’s eyes.
