On August 14, spokesperson for the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Unites (PMU) Ahmad al-Assadi announced in a press conference that the PMU will participate in the upcoming operation to liberate Tal Afar area west of Mosul. Al-Assad explained that the decision was taken after a meeting in the joint operations room. However, US wasn’t part of the meeting.
“No red lines against the participation of the PMU in the operations to liberate Tal Afar from ISIS,” al-Assadi said adding that “our forces will actively participate in the operation to liberate Tal Afar from all the axis”.
Al-Assadi also revealed that the Sayyed al-Shuhada Brigades, a part of the PMU, was targeted by the US-led collation on August 8 inside the Syrian territory near the Syrian-Iraqi border.
“The incidents which Sayyed al-Shuhada brigades were exposed to, occurred in depth of the Syrian land,” al-Assadi said. “The factions which suffer strikes, have the right to take the suitable measures.”
Moreover, al-Assadi emphasized the importance of some Iraqi factions fight in Syria:
“They have been fighting there for around six years. They play a great role to prevent terrorism reach to Iraq.”, He added: “the Syrian regime would have fallen to those terrorists”.
Al-Assadi said that the operation to liberate Tal Afar will be launched soon ,and the Iraqi Air Force will be a main part of the operation.
