On December 8, the Iraqi Army and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) resumed their military operation against ISIS in the al-Jazeera region in western Iraq and started advancing along the Syrian-Iraqi border, according to the PMU media wing.
During the last few hours, Iraqi government forces liberated the al-Sansul lake, Maniyf Mount and the following 40 villages in the northern, southern and eastern parts of the al-Jazeera region:
Umm Qasab, al-Khurfan, Julud, Atmakhiyat, Dahm, Khasm Dhubian, Tulul al-Muiyni, Dhiyab, Shumr Garbah, al-Mthubah, Asfiyan, al-Sukirat, Ayn Thurij, Tal al-Rim, Abhiri, Abu Rasin, Furat, Hassnan Umm Khrab, Tal al-Daba’a, Zuba’a, Muiykhiy, Ata Allah, al-Duiyim, al-Salhiyah, al-Mushrah, al-Sakhriyat, al-Baidi, al-Rawi, Namla, al-Jaiyah, al-Nylyiah, Thuriy al-Wustah, al-Resala, Kashm Juridah, al-Radyn, al-Akbibah, al-Malhat, Kor al-Muali, Rajm al-Ayar, Amsiro Khafiyah.
The Iraqi Army and the PMU killed 21 fighters of ISIS and destroyed an ISIS VBIED. Moreover, Iraqi government forces captured several command posts of ISIS and a large amount of weapons, according to the PMU media wing.
The ISIS defense is rapidly collapsing in the al-Jazeera region. The Iraqi Army will likely liberate the entire region before the end of 2017.
