On September 9, a series of Iranian strikes targeted positions of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
The strikes started at around 6:00 am local time. Iranian warplanes, suicide drones, and artillery targeted a number of positions of the KDPI in the areas of Sidakan, Choman and Haji Omran in the province of Erbil.
According to the Rudaw Media Network, the Iranian strikes didn’t result in any casualties. Material losses were, however, reported.

Just a day earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) threatened to launch an attack on Kurdish Iranian opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region, calling on the government to drive them out.
This was the second such threat this week. On September 6, an IRGC commander threatened to attack these groups in response to recent deadly clashes, and told civilians to stay out of harm’s way.
“Given the condition in the region and the possibility of a severe and decisive response by the Islamic Republic of Iran against the terrorist groups… nested in the northern Iraqi region, we call on the people of these regions to stay away from the bases of these terrorist groups so they do not come to any harm,” IRGC commander Mohammed Pakpour said.
The new Iranian strikes came a day after the third anniversary of the 2018 IRGC ballistic missile attack on the Kurdistan Region, which targeted a joint headquarters of the KDPI and the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan. At least 18 were killed in the attack.
Iran will likely reveal more information on the strikes and their results in the upcoming few hours. A video of the strikes may also be released.
