In Video: Turkish Drones Attack Syrian Army Convoy In Southern Idlib

Support SouthFront

On March 1, Turkish combat drones attacked a convoy of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) near the town of Ma’arat Hurmah in the southern Idlib countryside.

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense released a video showing strikes on the convoy. Four vehicles, including a battle tank and infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), can be seen getting destroyed in the video.

Earlier today, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) announced the closure of the airspace over northwest Syria. Several Turkish drones, reportedly nine, were shot down by the army’s air-defense systems.

Turkey responded to the Syrian measure by destroying air-defense systems, as it had claimed, and shooting down two Su-24 warplanes of the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF).

In the last few days, Turkish drones strikes inflicted catastrophic losses on the SAA and its allies in Greater Idlib. The strikes allowed Turkish-backed militants to regain momentum and even pushed the army’s positions in southern Idlib to the brink of collapse.

Game over for SAA :(..

EveryoneIsBiased

It indeed seems dire. And worse, it could have been avoided, had Russia not declared a unilateral ceasefire after the 33 dead turks without even informing their allies:

https://ejmagnier.com/2020/03/01/erdogan-idlib-is-mine/

BlueOctopusBoy

I thought Russia said no ceasefire… Regardless Syrians knew what was coming… Turkey had been very vocal and proactive about their plans.. SAA is not this invincible modern fighting force as SF potrays

EveryoneIsBiased

Yeah. And it was just unilaterally. Without even Turkey agreeing to one and doing it themsleves!! After the attack with 33 dead turks Putin thought Erdogan would be happy to deascalte, and Putin declared to his military to unilaterly halt air defense in Idlib. Totally underestimating that Erdogan does not want to descalete and does not dive a shit about dead turkish troops. So Erdogan took advantage, and had many hours free shooting with the UAVs until Russian military command could convice Putin to change course.. It is UNBELIEVABLE. But sadly the confirmed reality.
And dont trust SF too much on this, inform yourself directly with SAA and other sources..

EveryoneIsBiased

In this hours, the SAA defense lines south of M4 were destroyed, with around 150 dead SAA troops confirmed.. And now we see the result, Jihadis on the go to take back all gains.

Karen Bartlett

Don’t trust SF? Odd statement. Why watch SF and comment if you don’t trust SF? Maybe you should stick to reading the Jerusalem Post or Ha’Aretz.

John

Read it. An interesting take. He has a pretty good reputation too. I don’t go with the numbers, too many being thrown around now and even SOHR only accounted for 22 SAA members and friends getting toasted. SOHR, as everybody knows is an MI6 outfit. So they are not going to giveth SAA a break if ordered to by God Almighty.

EveryoneIsBiased

He surely is the best reputaed reported on the ground, though i would also say that he only uses numbers he can personally confirm with his sources.
And the dozens and dozens of strikes on SAA troops and vehicles surely took more than 22 dead; Only the Hezbollah/Iranien affiliates alone have nearly 22 dead IIRC.
Sadly the number is most likely very real, though i also did not believe it at first.
Lets hope for a better day tomorrow..

MikeH

Hardly. SAA artillery and air will get into the game full speed. Who knows precisely what role the Russians will take but their patience isn’t an endless font.

EveryoneIsBiased

SAA and Iran now moved their own air defense systems into Idlib, and vowed to Russia to use them no matter if Russia supports them.
Their patience too is now running out with trusting Russia to defend the airspace.

MikeH

I hope the SAA has the tools needed.

Allies do not necessarily share your own priorities. It doesn’t make them enemies though.

EveryoneIsBiased

I would think Iran is now taking action, and supplying the needed tools.
Another point were Iran is invaluable and dependable.
But we will see how much that is worth, and if Russias position does change.

MikeH

Russia’s position will change based on the priorites and views of the Russians. This applies to the Iranians as well. Vassal states, like Syria, are at the mercy of their sponsors unless and until their own capacities make them self-reliant .

EveryoneIsBiased

Sadly a true reality in the “great game” of geopolitics.

Zionist Internet Warrior

If Russian airforce never again intervenes, and allows Al-Qaeda/Turkey to launch an offensive, in the long run they can capture Aleppo/Hama/Homs from SAA if Turkey uses drones unabated. I don’t think Russia will ever allow this. That means their gains and sacrifices since 2015 meant nothing all down the drain.

EveryoneIsBiased

That is the problem. But Erdogan will not pull back, and already threatend all out war, which Russia may likely not be willing to risk.
And Russias small force in Syria would not be able to do much, short of threatenting with nuclear war.

But a humiliating pullout of Syria like Soviet Afghanistan? That would make the Russian public and military understable go wild.
All options are a recipe for desaster.

Zionist Internet Warrior

I agree, but don’t underestimates the capability of Russia’s current 2 kilo-class subs and 2 frigates in the Med. 16 Kalibrs and 48 P-700 cruise missiles are ready for fire at any moment now. These can destroy Incirlik, all major turkish airbases/drone hangars/observation posts. And each kilo-class sub has 4 extra 500kt nuclear euipped P-700. So conventionally Russia can destroy a big chunk of the turkish airforce and all Idlib observation post manpower, paving the way for a massive SAA assault if they have enough reinforcements.

MikeH

Expect the moves of the shops to be in preparation to keep the US carrier out of the fight

EveryoneIsBiased

Sure. Though now that SAA and Iran lost trust in Russian commitment to defend the air, i have much doubts about how much Russia wants to go.
Either way, Putin now has to decide how far and we will know soon.

MikeH

Sputink says the Syrians have closed the Idlib airspace and they can no longer guarantee the safety of Turk planes.

This is a clear message but denies direct involvement .Typical Russian diplomatic speak

EveryoneIsBiased

Yeah, but we will need to watch and see for how much that counts now.
And even without UAVs, the artillery in Hatay Turkey can shell whole Idlib free.
Counter battery fire to destroy them is needed, without it, Idlib will be under constat artillery attack for all eternally.
And if the SAA would counter fire into Turkish soil, this would open another can of worms.
It is fucked up anyway it seems.
Another of those days where i am still awakw though i have to work in a few hours.
Hard to get to sleep with this mess brewing.
Lets hope for the best, and that tomorrow may show some positive signs.

Adi

What happened when you woke up? Time to go brush your teeth?

Karen Bartlett

Imo, Zionist Internet “Warrior”, “Mikett”, and “Everyone is Biased” are Hasbara trolls “discussing” the situation among themselves, hoping that anyone reading will be impressed with their “knowledge” of the situation, and trying to spread doubt that Syria’s allies will stand with Syria.

Karen Bartlett

You wish and hope.

MikeH

Never let a few week propaganda barrage affect your thinking on the whole of a campaign .

Karen Bartlett

Syria is not a “vassal state” of either Russia or Iran.

MikeH

Pretend as you wish

The most reputable journalists on the side of Syira with the best connections to Damascus, Hezbollah and Iran, Elijah J. Magnier:

https://ejmagnier.com/2020/03/01/erdogan-idlib-is-mine/

Seriously, read it folks. It is illuminating.

Gabriel Hollows

Thank you very much. What is your general view on all of this? How were the militants able to revert the government gains so quickly, despite so many drones being shot down?

EveryoneIsBiased

It seems in the few hours that Russia opened the airspace, Turkey went massive and pushed dozens of not hundrets of strikes in a few hours.
UAVs, artillery, with that they destroyed the new defense lines in south Idlib, and much in east Idlib.
Because Russia did not inform SAA or Iran as Magnier confirmed, they were not prepared, and sufered at least 150 dead, plus dozens of vehicles.
A few hours are enough. Turkey had planed this likely long before and marked all targets and tracked them in advance.
That and 5000 turkish troops that now directly are involded in attacks.
Sorry to not write more, i seriously need to go to bed, working without any sleep whatsoever is a bit too much for me atm..
We will see how this plays out.
Lets hope for the best..

Karen Bartlett

Russia trusted Turkey to maintain the ceasefire. That was Russia’s mistake, besides not informing the SAA of the ceasefire w/Turkey. I think Russia has learned better than to trust Turkey:Russian Air Force not backing down in northwest Syria as they intensify strikes https://aml.ink/4p1iu via @thearabsource

Karen Bartlett

But Mr. Magnier doesn’t say that Syria and Iran “vowed to use” their air defense “no matter if Russia supports them” and are losing patience with “trusting Russia to defend the airspace”. That is your own interpretation of his words.

Karen Bartlett

Source for this statement?

BlueOctopusBoy

Action must precede words in this situation… Time has far surpassed for decisive action.. Russia must play for checkmate in a Bitz game time frame..

cactus

sarakib is fully secured …with reinforcements heading to the south…it’s far from over for the saa and allies

EveryoneIsBiased

Sadly all depends now on air superority. And protection from/destruction of Turkish artillery. The best ground troops are worth nothing without it in this situation.

cactus

turkey lost 12 drones in the last couple of days …and they get targeted each time they enter…syrians are getting their air defences together since yesterday and they’ve made a difference specially in saraqib front… strikes on military convoys do not end wars …the terrorist scum have lost thousands of armor and men they’ve been targeted by russian and syrian air force from 2015 everyday ..a couple of drone strikes on saa won’t do sh*t

EveryoneIsBiased

Wont do shit.. It destroyed the whole new defense line south of M4.
But yeah, since today SAA and Iran take Air defense in their own hands.
I hope this changes the tide.

John

I wonder how many drones they have? Can they lose 40 or 50 a week of the big ones?

SnowCatzor

They have/had 120 armed attack drones according to wiki, about a dozen may have been lost in the last week, so that still leaves just over 100. Not all of them can be deployed to Syria though, and they need some for anti-PKK operations and others for Libya too.

John

Thank you Snow!!!! I was looking for that but, couldn’t find anything concrete.

Adi

Shouldnt the reinforcements be heading north? South is where they retreat…Lol I think that convoy was the part of what was about to go Saraqib.Heard they didnt make it.

John

envelopment

Zionist Internet Warrior

SAA was planning on taking all south to capture Jisr al Shogour and secure the Russian airbase, however, they diverted lots of manpower for this and left Saraqib and the M5 highway undefended.

Now the priority is again Saraqib, Nayrab and the M5 highway most importantly. And if the March 5th meeting doesnt go well with erDOG, then we can expect the entire Idlib airspace to be closed again to turkish drones, and the full SAA offensive to recommence.

Gabriel Hollows

Saraqib WAS defended, by incompetent conscripts led by rookie field commanders. Despite significant air support, they lost the town.

Adi

Recommence with what? By the 5th SAA will not have motorcyckles to drive on judging by the amout of pounding they taking.

Zionist Internet Warrior

Not anymore, Russia jammed all turkish drones, airspace clear of drones for at least 10-15 hours now https://twitter.com/ynms79797979/status/1234256427654483968. Russia even smashed a TSK convoy at Sarmin https://twitter.com/ynms79797979/status/1234266278375849984

Gabriel Hollows

>saraquib is fully secured
Source?

EveryoneIsBiased

Not fully, only partly. According to all major SAA sources atm. May change in the night.

Gabriel Hollows

Let’s hope the air force can turn this around. They need to remove those drones from the sky to protect their artillery pieces.

BlueOctopusBoy

Good development, hopefully daddy Russia will turn up…

BlueOctopusBoy

That is the problem, only competent force is 25th brigade… wherever they go they make gains but opposite happens to the places they left…no south idlib is on the loose…

nicolas s

deadly turk robots in the sky and bearded head choppers on the ground. welcome to hell

EveryoneIsBiased

Add to that, that the new defense lines south of M4 were completly destroyed by turkish artillery and UAVs. And all looks so fucked up, like no one would have thought a week ago..

Gabriel Hollows

Artillery is the king of the battlefield, air power is the queen. Only the latter is being countered, and only half-heartedly at that. SAA really needs to destroy those artillery batteries, and Russia needs to fucking stop playing around and help the air force lock down the air space.

EveryoneIsBiased

True. Without counter battry fire, even free airspace will be not worth much.
Though then one can expect a full blown invasion by Turkey, and Turkey claiming NATO article 4/5 because of counter battry fire on Turkish soil (Hatay province).
A fucked up situtation how ever one sees it.

Gabriel Hollows

If turkey invades it is likely Russia will intervene in one way or another. Erdogan seems to be going all out here, it’s an all or nothing approach. If this operation of his is not successful, he can kiss career goodbye. I bet he’d risk war with Russia over this.

The only effective response is to match his fire with better, stronger fire. The Turks must be defeated completely and utterly for Syria to be free, and Russia to be safe from terrorism.

Muslim

I think thats it for the saa, the losses are too heavy for this tired army. They already lost till now much (couple thousand tanks, and apc) and if russia wont step up economically, which is unlikely cause they struggle themselve, assad does not have the capacity to withstand constant turkish pressure.

Conclusion: The next days or weeks will determine assads and syrias future.

@Inc2Get

Russia can just give Syria their old equipment from Soviet era. They have more than enough. The old equipment is still better than the ones Turkey destroyed.

Muslim

yes they could but they would have to “repair” them so they are useable again and that costs money, who is going to pay?

Assad is already heavy in debt.

@Inc2Get

True but much of it has already been refurbished and is ready to use. Also, I don’t understand why Russia isn’t tracking and destroying the drones entering Syrian Air Space. Syria has a couple of anti air batteries but not clearly enough.

EveryoneIsBiased

Yeah, the next days will decide everything. A sad thing, as most of us hoped 2020 to finally be the year this war ends with stability for a secular Syria.

Adi

Hizbollah look very secular…lol

Zionist Internet Warrior

And instead of the Russian Airforce hunting these drones down and blowing them out of they sky, they ground their airforce and let the clearly incapable Syrian Air defenses try to repel them. So far SAA have shot down 2-3 drones but that’s not enough, and they are not allowed to use the S-300 either. What the hell is going on? All the SAA blood spilled just so all gains can be reversed and their convoys getting targeted by drones when the airspace is supposed to be closed? Something doesn’t make sense here, seems like a secret deal.

Karen Bartlett

You seem to want to spread doubt about Russia’s commitment to help Syria. And fishing for information about Iran in Syria.

Zionist Internet Warrior

It was a guess, after today it’s clear Russia was taking a very short break. Now airspace more restricted and Russian AF more active.

IMHO

And Putin is in the corner with his tail between his legs. Nah. Putin isn’t worried about who’s in charge in Syria as long as Russia can have their presence there. Assad is just a sucker.

Zionist Internet Warrior

I doubt Russia would ever allow jihadists to be within 5km of their airbase or control Damascus.
They could be holding back for now until the meeting on March 4 or 5th

Prince Teutonic

These western technology drones can really wreck havoc on troops if uncontested. Hope they shoot them down fast before SAA is decimated!

Icarus Tanović

Saraqib is liberated. And we all have low morale here, as well as many trolls too.

Zionist Internet Warrior

It’s not about morale, it’s about why in the hell Russia would allow turkish attack drones to operate freely without even giving a warning to SAA. RuAF can easily shoot down all those drones using just SU-35 or SU-34, but instead let the syrians try to

Icarus Tanović

Take it easy, just some patience.

Zionist Internet Warrior

We’ll see after March 5th I guess

don

This is exactly the comment I came here to make. It seems insane to believe that the Syrian Army did not know this was going to be the Turkish terrorists prime ace in the hole. I mean look what the Turkish Army has been doing to to the Kurds for 2 years – droning them all over the place.

The Syrian government did not have the where with all or they did not have the money which is it? Or was it that the Russian military did not permit them to shoot the drones because why? Political considerations, fear of a full Turkey invasion? These slow flying drones even at 30,000 feet should easily be shot down. I don’t understand what is going on here. We need an in depth discussion on this way more than I am seeing on this board anyplace else on the internet.

Zionist Internet Warrior

In one FLIR video released by Turk, drone was flying at 18000 FT, well out of eye sight and DSHK machinegun, ZU-23 cannon range. But apparently Russia just delivered new batches of BUK-M1 and Pantsir-S1 vehicles to the SAA, soon to be mass delivered to Idlib/Aleppo fronts https://twitter.com/CoolHuh_/status/1234245431422541826. Also, Russia apparently activated its Krasukah jamming, disrupting Turkish drones and forcing them to flee. No turkish drone strikes as of at least 10-15 hours https://twitter.com/ynms79797979/status/1234256427654483968. But more importantly, SAA just liberated Saraqib https://twitter.com/SyrianArabArmy3/status/1234316108359880705 :)

Walter Mandl

Your message make me lucky! Thank you for this and best wishes from Austria

Jens Holm

Actually Rurks also has 245 F16s in active service. But of course those are junk too and already has escaped to Spain or what.

You are iddi about thise thing. People dont bend over just because You shout, so people hardly can see and certainly not hear, if there is at least some small thinking behind it. comment image

Zionist Internet Warrior

Wrong again, Turks only have 206 total F-16/F4s. They need 206 pilots to fly all planes, but currently only have 105 pilots. The rest were arrested in 2016 coup or fired from their posts. You source your numbers from wikipedia where virgins like you can write bullshit, I source from actual military analysts https://www.globalfirepower.com/country-military-strength-detail.asp?country_id=turkey

John

they won’t last long, they never do.

i don’t post random sh*t without firstly verifying from multiple sources that have contacts directly from either saa soldiers or resistance fighters on the ground

Gabriel Hollows

Thank you, properly sourced information is always appreciated.

lilbenavidez

This guy said like 15 hours ago Sarqeeb has fallen to the army and he was proven wrong

John

From what I am looking at on Syria U live, if they retook Hazarin, that is very bad news for the Turks. They put a tons of armor into that move.

cactus

apparently massive raids by the russian air force on that area specially targetting jabal azawia

ypovalkanios_katimas

Syrians must change strategy now. Turks probably use counter artillery battery radars. Syrians must do the same. Use rubber moulded decoys and follow hit and run tactic . Also they must obliterate all Turkish observe spots and kill all Turks inside .Furthermore SAA must get Iranian ballistic and cruise missiles if Russia doesn’t want to provide. Also booby trap everything they can. From dead bodies to weapon boxes .

Azriel Herskowitz

Tightly packed convoy. Perfect target for Turkish drones. SAA morale must be low after all of these losses they’ve been taking. :)

“The two Black Sea Fleet frigates, Admiral Makarov and Admiral Grigorovich, “simultaneously began passing through the Turkish Bosphorus and Dardanelles Straits towards the Mediterranean Sea,” the Russian Defense Ministry said Friday. Both vessels were described as being “equipped with high-precision weapons: the Kalibr-NK missile system,” …

Upon arrival, the ships were set to join their fellow Admiral Grigorovich-class Admiral Essen, which, like the Admiral Makarov and Admiral Grigorovich, can carry up to eight Kalibr-NK launchers capable of hitting targets more than 1,600 miles away. Russian surface ships and submarines have utilized Kalibr missiles to strike Islamic State militant group (ISIS) positions as part of Moscow’s campaign to support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against a rebel and jihadi uprising.”

John

Hi Richard. Russia doesn’t mind giving last chances, waiting a minute before they do their thing. Those ships mean business. On a wild guess, they are there to make sure nobody thinks they can get away with anything on Russia. If and when they get into the act in Idlib, it will be felt.

RichardD

They’re a deterrent to NATO and the baby rapers. And a force multiplier to Idlib air strikes. They can hammer sites in Idlib a lot faster than planes.

The Turks may have had permission to fly choppers and reconnaissance drones in Idlib as part of the DMZ agreement. And then misused them to attack the Syrian government coalition. There may have been a short time frame when the SADF held their fire until an agreement could be reached with Syrian government coalition members on withdrawing the Turks flight permission. But now that that’s been done the Turks will have a much more difficult time using aircraft over Idlib.

John Wallace

Update: Russian Naval Firepower off Syrian Coast currently:
2 frigates armed with 16 Kalibr-M (4500km range, 500kg high explosive warhead)
2 kilo-class subs armed with 24 P-700 granit (650km range, 800kg warhead) and 8 P-700 with 500kt thermonuclear warheads
This is enough conventional firepower to destroy the entire Turkish Airforce, all observation points, major HTS HQ’s and pave the way for a major SAA advance

Lazy Gamer

If this keeps up, in a few more days, then the SAA should begin a new phase, disband all large groupings and now begin guerilla warfare. Maybe that should force the Russians to do something if they want to keep their base. Assad should maybe start looking for hiding spots as his demise is a very convenient solution for all parties.

Ivanus59

Meh, if terrorists can recover from so many “catastrophic” losses then so can the SAA.

John

Exactly. Very interesting at how quiet it has been in Northern Syria. What if the Turks drained their fighters from there to put on a show of strength in Idlib, only to have them ground up? The SAA and Co. is fine. It was way worse in 2014.

Abteilung Fremde Heere

Drained their forces? Really? Nope, just look at the numbers.
If, and thats a big “if” the russians bring tor2 aa to the game and shoot down turkish planes/drones, the syrian army can hold their lines with big effort (all tanks and war material to the front) for long enough to begin a cease fire… If not…(I do not like these option) Assad will end like Ghadaffi or leave the country before got killed.

After this, Syria will be doomed. :/

John

Hello Heere. Not seeing it.

Abteilung Fremde Heere

What do you mean?

John

Hard to explain here, too much to type. Basically, the SAA and Co. adjusted their game and they are handling it differently now, than they were a couple days ago. It looks like the SAA will handle Air defense and Russia is going after troop formations, organizational points. Some people are already saying the CMs are flying. I have to wait until it is confirmed..

Abteilung Fremde Heere

K, i got it.

Air defense? Sry, but against the overwhelming turkish military they got no chance… The Syrian AA shoot down an F16 and meanwhile the turks take out 6 aa defenses like pansir…
How many does the Syrian Army have?
But, maybe your right but i doubt it.

Even if the russians are going to coordinate troop formations etc., they will (unless there are enough russian soldiers on the ground) have to deal with big problems like the speak barrier, at the frontline. And lets be honest, even if the SAA soldiers, with russian support, fight like devils, its just a gain of time.

CM´s are an Option, but where will this lead us?

On board the frigates are 20-30 rockets (per ship)? I dont know… Its nice, but will not change the events if Erdo is going “all in”.

No direct boarder to Syria is a big problem for supplies.

If the russsians would have used the last months to ship big amounts of weapons (thermobaric bombs, aa etc. ) to Syria it would have made a difference…but as the events show us, it didnt happened.

I feel sorry for the fellow soldiers from the SAA who fought nearly a decade for theyr country, but this game is not going to end well. :/

Putin musst act now…. (I dont know how…but hope he does…)

Jens Holm

There we go again. You have no idea about the strenght of the enemy.

Normal people knows that knowing the enemy often is number one. You have never looked that up or is not allowed or raised to. Are You??

John

Run that one by me again Jens. Good to see you.

Jens Holm

A one day war and Turks are out ????

Fx they also has 245 F16s, but those according to You all are rusty junk and the russian flying museum take those down within 5 minutes.

Until now, You hardly has seen what they are able to . Neither have I, but at least I am able to read, what they have on paper.

It would be devastating for all having Erdogan desperat in a corner sending everything in he has. He has a lot.

And what happens next. Well, then Russia has to send it their equipment.

And Yes. All parts in Borthern Syria seemes calmed down. Here You forget that inclused the second class Assads and the Russian guards.

Its typical for the Assad waste to move around troops as if they has too much fuel.

lovethemapples

That rusty junk took down the Russian bomber. underestimating an opponent is a recipe for failure.

Jens Holm

Thats what I try to tell people here.

John

you are a pip man. :)

SnowCatzor

Exactly, you can’t win a war with superior air-power alone. Turkish media/gov massively exaggerates SAA casualties anyway, so the real loses are probably relatively minor to moderate.

Abteilung Fremde Heere

Aha…but the turkish army does have the manpower and the material to do it. I mean, to defeat the SSA. If they launch a full scale attack, the SSA will lose.
No doubt about that. But, the SSA can slow it down and hope that Mr. V. Putin has an agenda that will support them in the long run….i hope so…

Talking about propaganda…: Its everywhere.

But…every dead turkish soldier is enougher nail into Erdos coiffin. ;)

SnowCatzor

He won’t though, as the Turkish army is currently spread thin over Libya, Kurdish Turkey, Northern Iraq, Northern Syria/Afrin, Cyprus and it’s border with Greece. It probably can’t mobilize too many more troops realistically. Plus it will also cost him hundreds (if not thousands) of dead Turkish troops.

WNSS

These new events are very dangerous for Russia for three reasons. First, the moral high ground that Russia had in this region may be lost. Second, the effectiveness of Russian air defence capabilities are questioned. Third, the ability of Russia to stand by its friends/allies is compromised. All of these have repercussions not only in the immediate war theatre, but also in other areas of the world, where Russian investments and interests are present. For this, Russia will need to double down sooner or later, which will make the Syrian mess ever worse than what it is now.

Gabriel Hollows

There is no running away or negotiating with terrorists anymore. The only way forward is TOTAL WAR. Victory or death, the beauty of brutal struggle.

Cowards die in shame. I hope Putin realizes this sooner rather than later.

A total war is not an option to Russia in Syria. Russia does not have a direct border with Syria, and also there is not a continuous chain of friendly countries linking them. Russia does not have sufficient assets in Syria to counter a Turkish All-In. Erdogan knowns this. Also Israel, US may get involved. What Russia needs to provide is a no-fly zone in Idlib as before and Turkey cannot really do anything. That is sufficient for Syria to win. What Russia needs to do, is to divest from Turkey, and eventually let US coup Erdogan.

Adi

Exactly,agree 100%.Turkey needs a jewish president again.

John

lol ………. Bibi will be available, when he gets out of jail. :)

goingbrokes

They already have Donmeh Erdogan!

Adi

Come on,Bibbi is a player,you got to admit. :)

John

lmao ……… absolutely true man.

Gabriel Hollows

A no-fly zone would stop the drone attacks, but the situation will not be reversed completely without destroying turkish artillery batteries. Sooner or later, Russia will have to bomb the Turks. If Erdogan refuses to back down then (a likely posibility) an all out bombing campaign against Turkish military assets within turkey will be the only thing that ensures a victory. Any other measures will inevitably end in the fall of Syria.

Karen Bartlett

“Total war” is war against civilians. That’s what the Wahhabi fanatics are engaged in. You dumb shit.

lilbenavidez

This is some crap straight from the kindergarten. What dose Putin gain from Idlib? He has alot of other things to gain from Turkey but not Syria or Idlib economically in fact Syria is a burden on Russia economically. Putin takes care of Russian interests but nobody hired him to start ww3 over some irrelevant small area and his not a hired gun anyone can order around.

I seriously hope the Russians see thru the bs this so called shia fanatics are spitting out. They dislike Russia in truth but think as if the Russians are their servant hired gun and on top of that they are ungrateful forgetting who saved them in Syria against the Rebels

WNSS

I am for secularism, and Syria was one of the most secular arab countries around there. The end result of this war will be stenghtening sectarianism, which will be bad in the long run not only for Syria, but also for all neighboring countries.

Karen Bartlett

Again, bullshit. You offer no evidence that “the end result of this war will be” to strengthen sectarianism.

WNSS

It is an opinion. It is hard to give an evidence for a future event.

Karen Bartlett

Well, I’m sorry to be mean. I am kind of mean on here sometimes. Really, however, political analysts offer opinions based on what they consider to be indications or evidence that they may be correct.

This is not a sectarian war, and it is not a civil war. The war in Syria was like a “color revolution”, except it failed to topple the government. When the demonstrations began in March, 2011, in Dara’a, suddenly snipers on rooftops opened fire on demonstrators and police alike. Then armed jihadists from foreign countries started flooding into Syria, supposedly “rebels” but relatively few of them were Syrian. They were foreign mercenaries, gaining access to Syria from Turkey and financed, armed and trained by Saudi Arabia, other Gulf States, the UK, and of course the US. It was a CIA/M16 planned coup, but it didn’t work.

incidentally, the terrorists ascribe to the Wahhabi sect of Islam, which is taught in Saudi Arabian mosques all over the world. Wahhabists consider other Muslims, whether Sunni or Shia, to be infidels. They would kill them, and have killed them, as quick as they would Christians. That’s also why they destroy cultural sites such as Palmyra. They consider them to be idols. They’re fanatics. The Syrians, Muslim and Christian alike, call them Daesh, which means something like “trash”. They are brainwashed in the Saudi Arabian “brand of Islam” i.e. terrorism. Saudi Arabia, remember, is a US ally.

Karen Bartlett

“Shia fanatics”?

Karen Bartlett

Bullshit. 1) Russia claimed no moral high ground. They’re in Syria to help stop the spread of terrorism to the world. 2) The “effectiveness of Russian air capabilities” is beyond doubt and 3) Russia’s “ability to stand by its…allies” isn’t compromised unless you want to see it that way.

John

It’s love. :P

Gabriel Hollows

It’s from 2015.

RichardD

Terrorists in Idlib will be slaughtered by them just as easily as the ones in Dier Ezzor on an as needed basis.

Tim Williams

By the time Erdogan crawls out of his casket in the AM Monday morning 10,000 more Iranian militia members will be in the Idlib area … the madman wants a war … IRAN will give him a war he wont believe … Tuesday AM same thing, Wednesday same thing and on and on …

Karen Bartlett

I hope you realize that there are new Hasbara trolls on here and imo, their new strategy is to pretend to be supportive of Syria against terrorists but the end result of their posts seem to be an attempt to sow doubt about Russia’s motives and ability in Syria and Syria’s chances of success against terrorism and foreign invasion of their country. Also, they seem to speculate a lot about Iran and are curious about actions Iran and Hezbollah may take.

LaRata

Iran need to support Syria … Iran anti drone system are excelent ones

Tim Williams

don’t sweat it help is coming

John

The Iranians told the Turks to knock it off and day or two ago. They weren’t kidding. They may be part of the no fly zone setup now.

Gabriel Hollows

Yeah, their AA will take a while to arrive though because of distance. Good news is the Russians are supporting the SAA now.

John

It appears to be on like Donkey Kong now. I am still shaking my head at Erdogan actually telling Putin to stay out of his way.

Tim Williams

it already arriving via IRAQ roads

10,000 dead Turks will be the tipping point to overthrow Erdogan … the faster that number is reached, the faster this war is over

John

Could he even take 1000 dead and wounded in one week?

Tim Williams

John

lol ……… unfortunately for the families, it looks to me that is exactly where he is headed. This thing may not even go until 5 March.

Tim Williams
